I was in the area a few nights ago for yet another one of our classic "let's get some beers and watch awful movies" shindigs. After about beer #2, we realized that none of us should really be driving, and were faced with the age-old delivery question: Pizza or Asian? The group consensus was the latter, and Koto came highly recommended. I usually stay far clear of any place that combines multiple styles of Asian cuisine, since it usually ends up being a jack of all trades, master of none sort of deal.. but hey, I was hungry and not about to tell our hosts "no".
I wasn't really feeling Japanese, since the last time I mixed sushi and beer, my stomach turned into what can only be described as Hiroshima, 1945. Remembering this, I decided on some chicken satay and tom kha gai soup. The soup was ~$5, and the chicken satay was ~$7, so I assumed it was going to be a decent portion – I was dead wrong. After about 40 minutes of waiting, the food finally got delivered. For a group of about 7 people, everything fit into one bag, oh boy, this is going to be the lightest of light meals, I guess.
So, what did I get for $15 (tax, food, tip)? I got a 3/4 filled pint of tom kha soup with about 5 small pieces of chicken in it, and almost no "body" to the soup, tasting kind of like the stuff you can get out of a can from the Asian grocery. My chicken satay was the highlight of the meal, and consisted of THREE small skewers of chicken that were covered in a very sweet peanut sauce, again – the type you'd get from the grocery store, which is basically peanut butter with a little vinegar thrown into it. That's it. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement – fifteen dollars for three scant pieces of meat and a small amount of soup? What a ripoff.
The next time this option comes up, I'm totally "vetoing" it. Not at all worth it.
I ordered last night and for 68 dollars I felt like I got ripped off. I dont mind paying that kind of money if the food is great.
First, they should stick to Japanese cuisine and leave the Thai Food to the experts,. I have to agree with Ringo. Not only does it taste like Dishwater, but it tastes like it came out of a can from shoprite. No flavor, The tofu was extra hard, at one point I didnt know if I was eating chicken or something else.
Second, they're philly roll, the rice was hard. The fish had a funny color and not to mention the cream cheese over powered the roll. I woke up at 3am with my stomach not agreeing with what I ate.
Third, their special rolls were better. Hawaiian Roll was delicious, over $11 dollars each, right around the price you would pay. But, location made that over priced as well as there wasn't as many high dollar ingredients
Two stars is a blessing, since today I have to settle my stomach.
