  1. Meat and potatoes make one mighty fine meal.  This is our favorite Polish restaurant in the city.  While I generally prefer the stronger Russian or Ukraine version, Krolewskie Jadlo puts out some pretty darn good plates.

The Grilled Hangar Steak is to.die.for.  Think a heaping plate of mashed potatoes, then slices of perfectly grilled, perfectly seasoned hangar steak, then covered in a sweet and savory dark beer sauce.  *drooling*

The White Borscht…life changer for me.  I knew I loved creamy soups but this one takes the cake.  When a steaming bowl of this soup is placed in front of me I transform into a scary shewolf, guarding my bowl of soup and plate of mash until every last drop has been licked clean.  *drool*

I've had other dishes here but  they didn't blow my mind.  I personally did not enjoy the Hunter's Stew and I found their pierogies to be a bit dry.  The Polish Plate while a sight for sore eye, gets incredibly heavy after awhile.

So this place has its hits and misses, it's still our special place to go when we want a hearty meal.

The staff here is amazing.  Definitely got that stern Easter European thing going, and no matter how hard I try to elicit a smile from them, I just get a polite but "you are strange" look in return.  But when we are starving and totally craving some Polish food, they will serve us 10 minutes before closing and not even bother to rush us out, even 40 minutes after closing.  Thanks for being so accommodating of our needs.  This is why I love local spots albeit feel guilty for my late night needs.

So on a particular night when we literally closed the place, we walked out at the same time as the cooks, a group of animated and beautiful Polish/Ukraine ladies in their 50s.  Being totally American I accosted them with great zeal that they all stepped back in defense.  I started to gush about the food and thanked them for staying late for us.  They responded with "no English" followed by an apologetic smile.  So being totally American I repeated everything again, but this time using hand gestures.  This seemed to elicit some giggles, although my companions seem to think they were amused by the funny Asian girl performing in the street.  *sigh*  My point being…the food here is being prepared by tradition and love.  And that my friends, makes all the difference in the world.

  2. Wow! 4 stars! I'll have to assume there are no Polish folks reviewing this place. Or for that matter anyone with taste buds. I pains me to dislike this restaurant because it is authentic and the venue is very cool. Some might remember it from a goofy but fun movie.

The menu is full of legitimate Polish dishes, prepared and presented properly. Then the food enters your mouth and… nothing! It's as if they had a technique for removing flavor. So to be clear, it's not that this food is bad, it's more like the food is not really there. Perhaps they need to try adding salt?

    Sorry.

  3. Talk about a home run! Krolewskie meaning Royal is just that Royal Polish food, cheap, filling stick to your ribs food and so damn Good. This is in fact a place everyone should give a try.

The outside of the place isnt as inviting and the inside decor has an old world theme but don't let that hinder you from wandering inside an enjoying a solid warm and welcoming atmosphere with lovely background music playing and good old fashioned hearty food and sexy ass Margaritas done right.

Our server for the evening was a very nice young lady by the name of Dora who took her time and briefed us on the menu offerings and what each of the dishes was comprised of.

I don't play with my food, I want to eat solid good rich tasting food and that's exactly what I got here with a few excellent and done right Chocolate Godiva Margarita cocktails to round things out nicely.

    Sooo…. The Food…

The ever so crispy on the outside thick and rich on the inside Potato Pancake with a side of sour cream & Apple sauce for dipping – Hell Yeah!!!

Stuffed Mushrooms – Ohhh these were perfectly fresh, crispy outside and stuffed right with Spinach, onions and Feta cheese on the inside and juicy.

White Borscht Soup – Damn – rich soup with Polish sausage, sour cream, leeks, onions and eggs & comes with a side of fresh whipped potatoes no boxe potatoes  (ya heard) and a small chuck of bacon or (pork belly fat) whichever of the two it's a slam dunk, your not going wrong getting this on a cold day, set you up just right!

Breaded Tilapia and crisp on the outside still soft on the inside baked potatoes – Excellent, flavorful. Perfecto again!

All of the salad sides (sauerkraut, beet & potato) was just damn good and good for you, we loved it!

The Beef Tartar – well friends, I know I 'm playing with fire eating raw meet but ummm. it was good, didn't finish this one just because its well raw and my company was a bit unsettled with the idea but hey I enjoyed it for what is was beef tartar and obviously they got this dish right because I'm a-o.k. and hey if you like your meat raw, get the dish. just make sure you don't have any squeamish people dining with you for the evening.

Now my least favorite dish was the trout, meh on this one, didn't like the taste, too smoked and then grilled (flavors didn't do it for me) was a bit too much going on for my taste buds but not to say that this wouldn't be great for someone else just wasn't for me.

Definitely family dining including kids friendly.

Bottom Line, this place goes into my rotation always and forever, food was excellent, prices excellent, atmosphere excellent. I'm about eating in comfort with nice and pleasant  background music playing, quality food and quality customer service!

This is a winner and they take credit and charge cards.

  4. If you want to try Polish food, this is the place!

The food here feels just like home-cooked Polish food.  The food was absolutely amazing at a reasonable price.  If you've never had Polish food, I recommend you try the Polish platter, you won't regret it (and chances are you won't finish it because there's so much food).

While I didn't dine-in, the atmosphere seemed warm and cozy, something I'd definitely consider another time.  Only thing is that there's no private lot, so expect street parking.

  5. I called in to place an order of Beef Tartare to go. I've been craving it! But they would NOT do it for me!!!

The lady who answered the phone said they don't allow this item to be taken out in the summer. "But…it's nighttime and I live really close…" Doesn't matter. Owner's policy. He doesn't want anything to happen to the meat and to the patrons.

    Yes, I was bummed.

But I get it. And I appreciate it.

  6. Funny enough, I always wanted to try Polish food and now I know I actually don't like it.

Came here on a Friday night and unfortunately, I must report,  their food was pretty boring for my palate. Everything was bland just like some of my reviews…

The only thing that I liked was their White Borscht soup. It was rich and flavorful with a slight acidic after taste. It also came with a side of whipped potatoes and sprinkled bacon bits that made it more delightful.

yelp.com/biz_photos/krol…, while their grilled chicken kabob tasted dry and tough. To be honest, that BBQ dish looked more like a platter of barnyard road kill then a platter of gourmet protein.

Their Strawberry Blintzes was pretty decent but their Cheese and Potato Pierogis was lacking in flavor and it didn't help enhance the taste, whatsoever, just because it was deep fried.

Maybe Polish food is just not my thing, but if you like Polish food I would recommend  this place as it's cleared that I don't know what  Polish food should taste like and I can only compare it base on my taste bud.

  7. Very happy this place is so close to home.  No more trekking out to Greenpoint to get authentic polish food. Not as busy as the Greenpoint restaurant although it was the day before Christmas Eve, but the food is identical. Loved the steak tartar. The pork dishes are delicious and the service was very nice. I will be back to enjoy it all again.

  8. I came here with my extended family last weekend and had the most delicious meal. We had a party of 20 and sat in the back room with plenty of space. The decor is very simple, would benches, old photos , and swords on the walls. The staff was very nice and managed our massive party very well. The portions are extremely generous for the price and everything was delicious. I ordered the Polish Plate ($12) with a wide mix of dishes to sample from. I was absolutely stuffed but mustered enough strength to try some of the goolash and loved it. It is a great place for a rich and satisfying meal (unless you're a vegan).
