This place is located next to hahm ji bach. I never really noticed it until my friend took me. I tried naengmyun before but I didn't like it too much. Surprisingly, I think I like it here! Of course it's probably better because it's their specialty. They have a good variety of banchan, I especially liked the mushrooms, but I'm a mushroom addict to begin with. The samgyupssal was good, too. We had the thinner slices and 2 orders gives you 6 slices + doenjang jjigae.
The only thing negative thing is…it's hard to hear each other in here since the table is wide and the sounds bounce everywhere. It feels chaotic even though it wasn't that full.
This is my go to spot in the Summer! I absolutely love naengmyun on a hot humid summer day.
They have different types of naengmyun running from 10-14 dollars. For everything else such as the bibimbop, I am not really a fan. I also think for the quality of galbi it was a bit over priced.
Service staff is great and was super fast.
Finally got to try the Halabuhji Kimchi Bulgogi, and I have to say that it did not meet my expectations. First of all, the price for that was way too expensive ($26 for 1 person). Second, I feel like I've had better bulgogi elsewhere. Literally just ordered this for Instagram and Yelp haha. I mean, the taste was there, but really nothing special…trust me…go somewhere else for bulgogi. I think I might come back for their samgyupsal and duck meat though! I constantly kept glancing over everyone's table that ordered samgyupsal or duck meat…it looked pretty bomb.
UPDATE
I tried the roasted (not marinated) duck meat and it was the shiz. When you're craving some delicious duck stop by this restaurant!
Came here with a large group to have some naeng myun. Typical looking Korean restaurant so don't expect much from the decor.
The banchan came out and it was either really delicious or I was unbelieveably hungry. The 'chik mool' naeng myun was delicious and very refreshing. I also ordered the pork belly cooked in garlic with daeng jang jigae. We had to complain about the soup bc there was barely any. It's like they gave us someone else's half eaten bowl. The soup was very salty, but at least the pork belly was delicious.
One person received their food extremely late, and when it came out, something tasted rotten. And on top of that, they wouldn't let us order another dish because it would take too long and we were taking too many tables. They let him take a smaller dish home for free. Quite unexcuseable if you ask me.
I give it 3 stars because the food that I got was relatively good. The spotty service and some questionable dishes really brought it down.
Food: the bimbimbap I will say is pretty good, the bi bim cold noodle was okay, I've had better,
Ambiance: nothing special like any other Korean BBQ joint in the area
Service: my -2 star deduction is due to this, service is slow and servers are not attentive if you do not have a Korean speaker at your table, at least that was my experience tonight… It almost seemed like the servers were purposely avoiding our table, our food took longer than others, we didn't get our small side dishes after placing our orders when other tables that sat after had already received theirs…it took us quite a while to get our check after asking twice, meanwhile all the other tables were attended to just fine
All in all I don't think I'd be returning to this place, there are better restaurants to eat in the area with better service
I wasn't impressed. We came here because our usual go-to spot for dinner was closed on Mondays and their infamous yellow awning was enticing. That was about it as far as amusement.
The portions for the duck bbq were so small! We couldn't believe it. At HanJoo, we're usually stuffed to the gills. We ordered the portion size for "two" (and by two, I mean two toddlers) and we were scraping the grill for as much meat as we could get. Did I mention the duck meat was laden with fat? I like my meats thinly sliced and clean. My bf wasn't happy either.
Also, the cold noodles were way too sweet for our liking. I don't think I'll be coming back here.
Gem in Murray Hill.
Halabuhji Bulgogi (Grandpa Bulgogi) and a Sekomi Nengmyun and you're set. I can't get enough.
Halabuhji Bulgogi – place the kimchi and gogi on top of your nengmyun, and you'll get one unforgettable, mouth-watering bite. You can't forget about the broth. After simmering in all those vegetables and meat, that broth becomes so silky and flavorful. I tried mixing the soup with a side of rice for the first time and I don't know why I didn't do this sooner!
This is my favorite nengmyun place, and those who are my friends know that I am super picky with my nengmyun. The noodles are thick and never overcooked and the broth is so refreshing!
Their side dishes are simple but good. My favorite is the potato fritter. The servers are more than accommodating and will refill the side dishes as many times as you want. Shout out to the owner – she's the best! 🙂
My family and I frequent Kum Sung for cold noodles and kbbq. Yesterday, we ordered dwenjangjjigae to-go and when we pulled the to-go container out, it was HALF EMPTY. We called the restaurant and spoke to the owner who didn't apologize and instead said this was "normal". I have never in my life seen a restaurant that fills their soup containers half way. Ridiculous. Never ordering from here again.
