Nice staff & nice selection of rolls.
They always have a special roll on the board and the sushi chef typically make a free appetizer for the table.
The lunch specials go till 4pm which is a huge plus!
This is the best place in the area.
After my sister and her friends raved about how good the sushi was from here, I decided to give it a shot. Me and my sister are both vegetarian, so I tried some of the vegetarian rolls. Everything I tried was so good. Everything is reasonably priced. Defiantly going back there.
Ordered a lot today for my boyfriend and grandma to try. I had the salmon teriyaki lunch box which came with white rice, salad, and miso soup. I shared shumai which is steamed shrimp dumplings, edamame and seaweed salad. My boyfriend had the kumo an ad tiffany rolls. My grandma ate the seafood soup. Everything was delicious. I do wish the salmon teriyaki came with more vegetables instead of two pieces of broccoli and one strip of carrot.
I still haven't been inside the restaurant but I will soon.
After eating here I felt I had to up this place to 5 stars.. Sushi tasted even better in person – correct temperature, perfect flavor and texture. The service was flawless. This IS my new local sushi spot!
Original review follows:
There are only so many burgers and dogs you can eat over Memorial Day weekend before you need a change of pace. I was also getting tired of settling for my usual Sushi take out spot so of course I get on Yelp to see if we have anything new in the area. I find Kumo, reviews look solid so I take a shot! Bullseye! Could it be that I found a new nearby sushi spot?
Now I know Kumo is not new it has been open probably for as long as I lived in the area, but it is understandable to be overlooked being somewhat off the beaten path in a tasteful little shopping strip. Kumo makes it easy to get to know them by allowing you to order through their website (Don't use the credit card option through the site. I didn't see some technical items to securely process the transaction – use cash or call directly with a CC). Since it is a 1st time order they called me to confirm and say see you in 40 min – the order arrives a bit earlier.
With a neighborhood sushi spot it's the little things that set it apart from the pack – the rolls are generously sized with fish that tastes fresher and has better texture than most on Long Island. Particularly generous is the Salmon Sashimi Salad which comes with EIGHT (8) delicious slabs of buttery soft salmon on a bed of cucumber and seaweed – do the math, fantastic deal! The New York roll had some melt in you mouth pieces of smokey eel. It will feel like Christmas year 'round with the name sake roll. Good quality, naturally colored ginger (not dyed pink!) and I also appreciated that they use actual pieces of real lettuce as a border between rolls instead of those cheap and fake plastic grass shaped pieces.
AH Kumo, this was a fantastic first date! You are so generous and giving with your deliciousness. You made me forget all about what's her name… I can't wait to come back for more to see if you can keep it up with the consistency.
I have to update my review for Kumo, as any place as consistent and delicious as this one deserves four stars! The food is excellent, and the cooked food is surprisingly good. For me, its mostly a take-out place and even with take-out i give them four stars.
Sushi Sandwich is still one of my favorites, but most special rolls are very good to excellent, so choose freely.
No…did we dine at the same restaurant? Sushi that falls apart and is made with extremely dry rice is not acceptable…
I came here at around closing time to order take-out, so perhaps this place deserves another chance. For now, however, be warned. Most Chinese owned sushi places are not that great, but this is just…horrible.
we were out and about with a storm rolling in
daughter says lets get sushi and here I am in a neighborhood unknown to me
so trusty yelp app take me to sushi
Kumo here we come
this is a smallish place very nice low lighting heavy wood tables
very friendly waitress brings us water right away
menu filled with yummy looking food
we order tuna tartare appetizer
the avocado forms a heart that is filled with fresh tasty chunks of fish and mango two types of sauce
its light and its a lovely treat if you like your fish raw.
miso is fine
cucumber avocado rolls can't really mess these rolls up they were fine
crunchy tuna roll was fine
eel sauce which is a staple to any sushi meal I eat was good too and they didn't charge for it like other sushi places often do. Prices are about average for sushi here on Long Island
Their dessert menu has some luscious looking treats that I might consider trying next time.
I would gladly come back
ps they have free wifi for their customers
Beautiful decor. Went for lunch and had soup, salmon, dumplings, spicy tuna roll, salad and rice. Excellent green tea. ALL FOR $10. The salmon was well prepared, the dumpling and sushi roll were tasty and I always enjoy a Japanese dressing. Can't wait to return!
