Wait what? Did I go to the wrong restaurant? 4.5 stars????
Met up with my girlfriend for Friday night dinner. It was completely empty (I should have known.) We ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Kerala Aviyal (mixed vegetables cooked in coconut milk). Sounds harmless, right? I think I could make Chicken Tikka in my sleep. That may have actually been the case at Kurry Pavilion. Ehh…
The chicken in the tikka came in huge chunks that were half the size of my palm. Pretty sure you could suffocate a small animal with it. The mixed vegetables, mushy and swimming in a pool of lackluster coconut curry, was one of my least favorite orders at any Indian restaurant to date. The rice, unflavored and lukewarm, tasted like it had been made two days ago.
Do yourself a favor and head over to Spice Symphony or MasalaWala. I'm still scratching my head on this one.
I had a chance to eat here the other day and wow the food is delicious! The restaurant is beautiful with large windows allowing everyone to get a little people watching before the meal starts.
This is the only Indo-chinese restaurant I've ever heard about. So we had a helping of Indo-Chinese sauteed veggies, a type of Indo-Chinese General Tso's chicken, and some more traditional Indian fare like some chicken curry and dal all with basmati rice and Nan bread.
So everything was really good. The Indo-Chinese food was fantastic! The general tso was interesting to say the least. Instead of a thick syrupy sauce, it's chicken deep friend and nestled in a thin, flavorful broth that compliments the dish perfectly.
I'll be back for this b/c it's that good.
Disclaimer: only tried their Indian cuisine.
TL; DR: Can't join the "Yay! I'm a fan!" bandwagon, but can solidly declare KP to be "A-OK". I'd likely try another spot, for comparison sake, if in the area…but wouldn't be dissatisfied trying them again for the milder side of Indian dining.
Huge delivery zone (they're nearly twenty blocks from my office!). Very sweet and patient delivery guy. Food arrived at a good temperature. Though they give the smallest side of rice I've ever been given anywhere ($$$+ places excluded). They also include the three traditional sauces which accompany papadam….but didn't include papadam……or naan….
Mulligatawny was solid. At first, it tasted too strongly of cilantro. But the flavors balanced quickly, and the heat slowly built throughout the bowl. $5 was a bit steep for the amount and overall execution.
The Kadhai Gosht was pleasant. Nice presence of the lamb and tomato, and then the flavors marrying and slight spice building as you eat. $18 for the portion size? Meh. But very solid dish.
A bit pricey for what you get, and a definite Americanized approach to spice. Would be interested to dine in to experience service, and if they have a lunch or dinner buffet. Might order delivery again if I have a discount code…though would likely try elsewhere.
Decent food, but not out-of-the-ordinary. The chicken lollipops and Goan shrimp biryani were good, but would definitely pass on the Punjab-style fried fish, samosas, and mushroom chetinad.
Was not impressed with the service as it took a long time and our waiter was pushy. We were sitting down for a full hour before our appetizers showed up. Our waiter started off by asking whether we wanted a bottle of wine right off the bat. Several in our party didn't want anything but water, but the waiter kept pushing til it got uncomfortable. He also pushed the garlic naan on us without telling us that our curry dishes all came with rice… So we ended up with way too many carbs.
The restaurant space was clean, big, and new, but felt a bit corporate.
I thought this place had some really great Indian food. Also, I found the wait staff and manager (possibly owner) to be outstanding. We were seated next to a child that was having a meltdown for nearly an hour and absolutely no intervention by his parents/family members and when we asked to move it was seamless and not questioned or an issue, which I appreciated, because I didn't want to make the family feel badly or cause a scene. Food itself was really good, although portions could have been a bit bigger for the price and our stomachs.
We ordered chicken tikka masala (loved)
Yellow lentils (very good, but could have used a big more flavor)
Vegetable samosas (yum!)
Naan (yum!)
Came with white rice.
I will be back.
Can't say that I'm a master of the Indian cuisine, so I don't know how heavy you want to take my review.
We ordered the samosas to start. These were pretty good. Filled with potatoes and peas which was more filling then I had anticipated so I'm glad I only ordered one order. We also had the chicken tikka masala and the lamb vindaloo. A few flaws with both dishes. Both of the items were ordered as "mild". The chicken tikka was just that, but super dry. The lamb vindaloo was super spicy so I don't know what happened there. Also, we asked for extra white rice, and it came in two small little containers. It wasn't even enough for one of these main dishes.
I've had better indian food at a cheaper cost so it's very unlikely that I will be returning here.
The execution of food was superb. I could smell and taste the finesse in our standards (CTM with garlic naan on one end, Gobi Manchurian with veggie chili garlic noodles on the other, and fragrant basmati rice in the middle.) The portions of food were right on with Indian tradition.
There is a very railroad layout to this restaurant, so much so that by the time we were escorted to the caboose, I felt ready to double our order. Luckily, I did not. The aforementioned was plenty for our party of four. A note about the layout is that I can imagine a peculiar intimate ambiance in every nook or "room" here ONLY when this place is packed, though the decor is fine enough to compliment even a low key Tuesday night dinner as we did.
My only complaints were the length of time for preparation, which still was on the longer side of normal. There apparently was a price missing on the chili garlic noodles on the Indo-Chi menu. If you follow the algorithm directly above, it looks to be continuous, but it was not. Lastly, $6/naan seems outrageous. Was there a Michelin star someone wished upon here?
3.5 out of 5 stars
Service is excellent, food just didn't compare to other Indo-Chinese that I've had.
Started with chicken lollipops that lots of yelpers rave about. The meat was tender and well marinated with spices. Sauce (?mayo and sweet chili sauce) goes really well. I could eat by the spoonful!
Veg Hakka noodles tasted good but had more veggies than noodles. Fried rice was delicious, a little too much onion maybe. Sauce for paneer Szechuan wasnt as sweet or tangy as I like similar to General tso's/garlic sauce, and the paneer was more tough.
