Kyma
“There's mandatory valet parking which you don't pay for but obviously have to tip, but that's pretty standard at these Long Island joints.”

When it comes to Greek cuisine Kyma is one of the gems of Gold Coast, Long Island. Kyma is one of the restaurants that serves top notch Greek cuisine. The food in this place lives up to the hype and is just as amazing like their beautiful decor, the white walls and high ceilings that gives the restaurant the sophisticated "city" type vibe. Appetizers are HUGE so they definitely give you food for your moneys worth. The stuffed calamari was exceptional but their signature Kyma Chips are seriously the best thing ever. The grilled octopus was seasoned well and the saganaki was crispy. If you still have room after their deliciously huge apps, try the Levraki, they drizzle a little EVOO and capers which gives the light flakey fish a little taste. The best part of the night is of course the greek desserts. The desserts that's made here are not your typical Greek desserts, they are like the desserts you once had when you were in Mykonos good. The Ekmek Kataifi is one of its kind, no other restaurant makes it the way make it. Karidopita and their Galataboureko was nice and lightly sweetened. In Long Island there are only few restaurants that serve Mediterranean food in top notch quality, Kyma is proudly one of them.
By far the best Greek Restaurant I have been on Long Island so far. The circular bar area is very airy with a patio side and an inside the dining room side. The restaurant dining room is comfortable and mostly everything is white with large windows to draw the light into the room. We actually ordered more appetizers than we could actually eat, but we were excited to taste as many as possible. The Saganaki, Octopus 22, Watermelon Salad, Classic Greek Tomato Salad, and Zucchini Fritters were all awesome. We had also the Tiger Shrimp and a whole Black Sea Bass fish as entrée's. And we did enjoy dinner with a good bottle of white from Santorini. We finished off with Barbayannis Ouzo and Greek Coffee. Don't ask me about how much the bill came to, who cares Opa!
Style over substance. I recently tried Kyma for the first time and would likely not return. I really wanted to like Kyma, from a decor standpoint the place is very nice, white walls, comfortable seating, but the overall experience left me scratching my head.
We went on a Saturday night, the place was packed. Our reservation was for 9:30, we arrived early at 8:45 and checked-in. When 9:30 arrived, our table was not ready, and I asked one of the maitre'd how long it would be, and he responded "well, we are still seating people with 9 pm reservations." Guess what? I don't care about everybody else, I care about myself when it comes to being seated at a restaurant, so that was a bad answer.
When we finally sat, our table was uneven, which was remedied, but our waitress had the warmth of a rikers island prison guard. She could not have seemed less interested, did not tell us about the specials, and when our appetizer was put on another table and we had to wait another 20 minutes, she didn't even say anything, you know, like…sorry…So she sucked.
As for the food, well, it all looks nice, but the flavor(s) were just not there. We have dined all over Greece, and this food was not a great representation. My wife had the branzino, which she said had no taste, I had the lamb shank which was okay (small portion), but the tomato orzo thing underneath it was very watery, and lacked any real flavor.
I would likely not return to Kyma. Perhaps the immense crowd is there to "be seen" but that doesn't mean you shouldn't focus on your customer service and your food.
Let's just start by saying I'd give it at least 4.5 stars if not for the higher end price. Every dish we tried was from good to excellent, mostly toward the latter end of that spectrum.
Service was solid. The waiters were readily available. I had just been to Greece, so I asked about a few wines I'd tried. The manager came out and gave a few suggestions. Both the Syrah and Pinot Grigio were great bottles of wine. They also had valet parking.
Apps
KYMA CHIPS – Crispiness of the fried zucchini & eggplant chips offset with the slight sourness of the tzatzki for a nice balance.
STUFFED CALAMARI – The table was split on them, but I enjoyed them. Grilled squid filled with feta cheese, topped with a few onions and peppers.
SESAME FETA – This is one of my favorite Greek dishes. Lightly breaded and fried, drizzled with Greek honey. More please.
CRAB CAKE – Standard crabcake. In other words yummy.
EGGPLANT SPECIAL – Classic eggplant, tomato, onion dish done well.
SHRIMP – Olive oil, herbs. Light, delicious.
Entrees
SEAFOOD LINGUINI – Standard. Sauce was decent. Nice variety of seafood with shrimp, clams, mussels, and scallops.
LAMB CHOPS – Decent.
Fish in tomato sauce – Amazing. Great flavor to the sauce and perfectly cooked buttery fish.
I have been to Kyma 5 or more times and it just never seems to go without some sort of hitch, despite many excellent meals. On our last visit they kept us waiting nearly 40 minutes to be seated, and it was really more about how they managed the process. I do not like being told it will only be a few minutes over and over again. Once they seated us they could not have been nicer.
My go to entree has always been the excellent swordfish kebabs. On Friday I tried a special, the Sesame Crusted Tuna. This is becoming a common offering at many good restaurants and I have had it at many, but Kyma set the new best. It was excellent. A perfect combination of favors. Another regular for us is the always dependable zucchini chips and also the tomato salad, which is so large it should be shared.
They have an active bar scene and a cozy lounge. Their white sangria is another favorite, as is the pineapple infused vodka.
I will keep going for the food and hope there are no glitches. If that happens I will upgrade to 4 or 5 stars.
Absolutely gorgeous restaurant with a true Mediterranean feeling. The food and service here was fantastic!
We started with the sardines, the zucchini chips and tzatsiki. The sardines were a little dry, the zucchini chips were phenomenal. Highly recommended. Also some of the best tzatsiki I've ever tried.
For entrees, I ordered the octopus, my mom got the osso bucco and my dad ordered the fish special.
Each dish was delicious. I loved the meat flavor, it had that cinnamon under tone that you get with moussaka. The fish was light and fresh and the octopus was great.
We had the cheesecake for dessert and everything was perfect. Love this neighborhood spot!
I'm torn because the food here is excellent and the service isn't. I want to give them five stars but I just can't because the service is atrocious. I was in a group of five and we were seated right away and I always love that. It was a snowy night but this restaurant is so bright and fresh it was as if we were transported to a different place that was sunny and warm. We ordered a bunch of different apps including Halloumi and that was excellent. I ordered the Moussaka and honestly it was the best I have ever eaten.
I feel like the problem started when we were dealing with one waiter and then a second appeared. Some one in the group ordered a drink and then they never received it. Those are the types of things that seemed to go on the whole night. I thought things were looking up when we were given a free drink on the house. Then there was such a horrible mix up with the bill that I became angry. The group decided to just let it go but I was incensed to say the least. It's a shame that such an excellent place chooses to hire poor quality people to represent there brand.
All and all the food was excellent as well as the atmosphere. I will not be returning based upon the low quality service
Loved this place! I've been here twice now and both experiences were great.. This gorgeous place offers some really delicious Mediterranean style food and a sexy ambience that you can really appreciate..
Ordered the kyma chips which were crispy, perfectly fried zucchini chips accompanied by tzatzki sauce.. Def get them as they're perfect for sharing and a nice way to start your meal… The octopus was amazing, nice and tender just as it should. Saw a lot of people ordering both of those plates… Split the branzino into two.. Ugh so good! Reminded me of the branzino filet from esca in NYC which I absolutely love… It was well seasoned with oil, oregano, deboned (no head and tail per request), capers and lemon… Yes. I'm sure all of their fish dishes are worth it…
So this place gets turnt as the night progresses… Very good looking people looking to have a good time and grab some dranks.. Single ladies if you're looking for a good time come here ! It was a nice change of scenery for me and the food is great, I'll be coming back..
