  1. Kyoto Sushi serves up standard affordable take out sushi with a friendly neighborhood vibe. Eating in is comfortable for a casual date and comes with good service. Menu is skewed toward making you order rolls, although you can also have plates of sushi, sashimi, chirashi, a $30 omakase, teriyaki, and noodles. The menu is large and varied, and of what we tried the food is solid.

Kyoto is popular with the neighborhood and had a decent in house audience for a place that is well known with the take out crowd. There is seating for 35, so not a big place. Tends to be a bit dim in here during the day and in the evenings. If you have a group of 8, coming early would probably be sufficient, and they can merge enough tables together for the group. Anything larger than that may be overwhelming for other diners. Solo diners are very welcome here, with multiple two top tables or the option to eat at the bar in front of the sushi masters.

Perry I and I were looking for a light dinner and ordered:
    Miso eggplant
    Oshitashi (cold spinach)
    Yellowtail roll
Yummy roll (spicy salmon topped with salmon/tuna/yellowtail)

For a neighborhood not-fancy sushi joint, the quality and portion sizes were fantastic. We enjoyed all of our dishes and they were brought out in the order they were finished by the kitchen in a nice rotation of tasty options. The service is attentive, but not obtrusive, and very patient. And for $30, we ate really well.

  2. Kyoto Sushi is definitely now one of our go-to Japanese restaurant in the neighborhood.

We always walk pass by this place and we finally decided to have lunch here on Saturday since we were craving some Japanese food.

We chose to sit at their lovely back patio. (Although in my opinion they could improve the back patio a little bit more)

I chose Salmon Teriyaki lunch special on their menu. It came with a miso soup and vegetables salad with ginger dressing. Not to mention that it was served with California Roll, Edamame, a portion of corn and greens. It was delicious and sumptuous for a $10 value.

We washed down our meal with a cold bottle of beer. The staff are great and we did not have to wait very long for our food to be ready. There's definitely a repeat visit to this restaurant in the near future.

  3. I really wanted to like this place because it's so close to where I live. But unfortunately, will not be going back:

I've been there twice- the first time the sushi tasted off (not fresh) and then last night, I found two hairs in my tuna roll.
    Would not advise.

  4. Overall , the sushi here was very good. I ordered the Mermaid Roll and the White Tuna Roll. I enjoyed the sushi, the service not so much. The restaurant had 3 customers and it took 30 minutes to receive my order ,because they were too busy making Take Out orders instead of serving patrons in the actual restaurant. This type of service is unacceptable!

  5. There's nothing like cold sake and raw fish on a hot day.

My fiancé and I came in for a late lunch. The lunch menu is pretty limited, just one page of their specials. We ended up splitting the sashimi lunch plus we each chose a 2 roll combo. Each special comes with miso or salad plus a few shu mai and edamame.

The miso was surprisingly good. They didn't skimp on the tofu and even threw in some enoki mushrooms. The broth was great and even those it was sweltering outside, I downed the whole bowl.

The sashimi was great. We got 3 types of fish (tuna, salmon, and unknown) plus 2 pieces of a salmon roll wrapped in cucumber. I wish I knew what that was called because we really loved it.

For the rolls, we split salmon skin, salmon avocado, eel roll, and crunchy spicy crab. Eel was definitely our favorite and the salmon skin was a bit too fishy for me.

We noticed they had sea eel on special and ordered two pieces, as we don't come across it often. The presentation was pretty, though the pieces were dissimilar in size.

The lunch specials are a really good deal – the 3 lunches plus sake came out to $50 and we definitely didn't feel cheated on portions.

  6. Stopped in for a quick lunch~ their lunch special seriously can't be beat- only 9 bucks for 2 rolls, dumplings , edamame and your choice of salad or miso soup. Food here is very fresh and delicious. they have a nice selection of sushi/rolls/sashimi even for the lunch special. I would not say it is a perfect sushi place or fancy but their food quality was absolutely amazing for the price. the service was pretty nice too. i really enjoyed my lunch and would definitely recommend it to others.

  7. I went here over the weekend with my mom who was visiting me for the week. I wasn't in the mood for anything when we decided on sushi. According to my handy dandy yelp app kyoto was the closest sushi place with a higher rating, so we decided to check it out.

They didn't disappoint, not only were they super close the G train, which I needed to go home, but the sushi was super yummy. I ordered an eel avocado roll (my favorite always), spicy crabmeat and the salmon mango roll. They all were substantially better than the other sushi places that I have recently frequented and I was super full from the three rolls I ordered, normally I'm kind of full. So not only were the rolls packed full of flavor, but they also were way more filling than most sushi rolls. My mom ordered almost the same thing as me, but instead of the eel avocado she got the dragon roll. She felt the same way I did about this spot, she loved it. Her favorite was the spicy crabmeat roll.

The only thing I wish this place did differently was that they had a pick your own sushi roll special, we just ended up ordering the rolls we wanted individually.

  8. I enjoyed a relaxing Tuesday lunch here with the hubby and 1 year old. Ikea high chair provided. Fresh food and good lunch special prices with pleasant service.
