The gelato was okay, I had the olive oil flavor which was interesting but had a strange after taste. Also, the price is a bit out of hand, $5.50 for a small cup.
Everything is sourced from small local producers!
The staff here is so kind! They really doted on our lil Zoe. She couldn't eat the Gelato but she certainly liked the hold the spoons!
The Flavors are great, we tried a few Ricotta (Lemon and Almond) and Goat cheese ones, Pistachio, Coffee, they were all delicious! I like how they make flavors that differ from the "norm". You can't go wrong here. Plus they look like they have a LOT of delicious lunch items, next time!
This gelato definitely hit the spot after watching Twelfth Night over in Washington Park. I immediately knew I wanted the butter and salt variety- didn't even need to sample. My fiancée got the blueberry cherry blossom. His was good- not overly sweet, obviously flavored by real fruit and not "flavors". Mine though. If I could only have one flavor of ice cream or gelato for the rest of my life, this would be a SERIOUS contender. I've known for a long while that the key to my palette is quite simple- sugar, fat (preferably butter) and salt, so this was obviously a perfect flavor. There were flakes of butter that melted after the gelato in your mouth and created a really unique and delicious experience. I will definitely be making return trips for this, and if you're looking for something a little different but absolutely delicious- try the butter and salt gelato!
Amore! The employees are the sweetest and so patient (many are from Italy). The space is deceivingly large, with a couple tables in the front and more in the rear. The interior has a charming country feel.
Options for vegans and gluten and nut-free. There is a chickpea flat bread that can be used for panini- it's thin, slightly grainy (in a good way), and moist. The gelato is diet-breaking worthy. There are dairy-free sorbet options like local strawberry. Plenty of organic options too.
came again for dessert, really good. sat in the backyard area for a little bit. it was kinda chilly so there was no one there but it's a nice area, a lot of seating and gardening in progress.
If you're ever in town, you have to check this place out. They have the best flavors for sorbet- I have to say some flavors are pretty interesting. I've seen ricotta flavor, lemongrass, olive oil… I want to know who is coming up with these crazy flavors?! But I only tried the non-dairy flavors which were all the fruity ones. I ordered the raspberry hibiscus and strawberry and they were both so sweet and so refreshing. It was the perfect treat for a hot day.
The line was pretty long and there is no seating inside but it was worth it. It's a grab and go type of place. I would highly recommend!
SOOO good. It was really hot the day I tried the gelato here, so by the time I reached the corner of a street my hand was sticky from all the gelato dripping down the cone. But it was so worth! The gelato is melt-in-your mouth really soft and creamy and true to taste. I got two different scoops of the Limone & Lemongrass and NY Blueberry Cheesecake:
Limone & Lemongrass-
Perfect lemon-y taste. It was not too sweet nor sour(just right!). I'd rather gorge on this than drink lemonade!
NY Blueberry Cheesecake-
Tasted exactly like a NY Blueberry Cheesecake. Milky, too. Loved the prominent blueberry taste.
While everyone else in the city is getting pumped about all things pumpkin… this gal is visiting gelato joints and ordering up other fantastical fall flavors.
Flavors like Chocolate Hazelnut – which was a little bit more chocolate than hazelnut but was so rich and nutty it's still a solid option. Or what about Ricotta Cinnamon – super smooth with just the right amount of spice and warmth. For me, both of these options are the perfect flavors for a warm fall evening.
A few other items of note:
The staff at L'Albero is super friendly and offered up a sample of gelato before we put in our final orders.
Sizes vary slightly: kiddie cup / 1 flavor / $4.50, small cup / 2 flavors / $5.50, large cup / 3 flavors / $7.50 and the only option for payment is cash.
Next door to the gelato window is a full restaurant/café with sandwiches and such. It's a beautiful shop with a organic vibe – planters on each wood table, a hand painted menu and quotes, light fixtures and details made from recycled materials. And if the bench out front of the gelato window is taken there are plenty of tables inside to sit and enjoy your dessert.
