L’Artusi

“From the start of the meal, everything was great, down to the free sliced baguette and the amazing olive oil to dip the bread in.”

“In addition the ricotta on top added just the right level of cheesy granularity and salt flare that complemented the dish.”

“I suggest the scallop crudo, roasted mushrooms with an egg & cheese (sounds crazy but it's earthy and a real gem), bolognese, and gnocchi.”

  1. Cool scene and really great food (had the kale salad, hamachi, chicken and pasta with mushrooms). The service seemed a little out of it, but they were friendly and accommodating. Overall I enjoyed my experience and would definitely go back again (have actually frequented this spot over the years).

  2. I asked a fellow elite yelper for recommendations on great wedding anniversary spots in the city and this atrocious place is what was recommended. I did not enjoy flagging down different servers, having to move because we were seated directly under the sun (while there were many other tables open and others were given options on where to sit), and having my wife almost barf because the bolognese is a mixture of veal, chicken livers, and other things she does not eat. FYI bolognese is beef by definition. I don't think I should have been expected to read between the lines here. After a random visibly annoyed server took her plate away cause our inattentive server didn't care to check up on us even once while we watched her avoid us and check up on her other few tables, it was also unpleasant to watch that random server talk trash about us to other servers. I get it, freedom of speech, however they could have done it privately without being so obvious with glaring back and forth at us. Geez. The only conclusion I could come to was that they were letting racism dictate their attitudes and actions toward us. We were undeniably outed and the only visible people of color at that time. It is really sad.

As for the food, my wife said her few bites of gf bolognese was extremely salty and the only really great thing about my hangar steak was the potatoes. But really how can you screw up potatoes they are majestic carb clouds.

Yelp failed me this time and now I have to make up for this anniversary meal gone south. Such high hopes and such great disappointment. Ambiance and service is a big part of enjoying a meal. I do not recommend this place.

  3. There are some restaurants that you don't want to tell others about because it's so great and if it becomes too popular you'll never get in. Well this is one and even though it's been open for a long time, I still feel like I don't want to rave about it too much because I'll never be able to get in again. I love the food and the ambiance here. We ate and enjoyed everything. Kale salad, beets…who knew those could actually taste so good you want to order seconds or thirds. The other screaming must have was a mushrooms dish (I know…but trust me it was almost orgasmic). Orichette was out of this world. Topped it off..we had a wonderful wine and desserts are yummy. We had the olive oil cake and a walnut dessert which were awesome. It's got great vibes, great food and it's a pure joy.

  4. I really like this place, but haven't been blown away by it. I don't want to sound negative, because I've really enjoyed the food, but I don't think it's quite matched the incredibly high expectations I had for it going in.

Last time we were there, we went with a group and split a bunch of dishes:

    – Beef carpaccio
    – Cauliflower
    – Garganelli with mushroom ragu
    – Spaghetti with garlic and chilies
    – Tagliatelle with bolognese
    – Linguine with rock shrimp and chilies

The beef carpaccio was among the best I've had, and I thought both the spaghetti and tagliatelle were outstanding. I wasn't crazy about the garganelli (the mushroom ragu really didn't do it for me), and I thought the linguine was very good, but not a standout.

Overall, it's very good food for fair prices. I'm still waiting to really have my big time moment here, as so many others have, but it's still a place I would definitely recommend.

  5. Had a really good meal, service was professional yet friendly but the space was unprofessionally cramped.

Overall, solid pastas and food overall.

  6. I was very excited to go to L'Artusi. I got in around 9pm on a Tuesday night and it was very busy. I sat at the bar and was greeted by Shadia which was very kind, prompt, and helpful.
After hearing some of her recommendations I decided to order the steak and potatoes plate.
First she brought out some complimentary bread and I was munching on those, I received a plate of some type of ravioli that I couldn't remember what they said was inside but it was compliments of the chef.
I ordered my steak medium but it was a bit over done with only one end of it pink. This led it to become a bit chewy but the seasoning and flavor was wonderful.
The plate was served with crispy potatoes and this white sauce which to me resembled almost a tzatziki  like sauce. Whatever it was it was delicious to eat with the steak and the potatoes.
Overall I had a great experience. I would definitely go again but I probably wouldn't order the steak again.

  7. 3.5 Stars

This place has dim lighting, an upscale look, and a upbeat musical vibe in the background. There's an open kitchen in the back but you can't see much unless you're sitting on the back bar chairs.

The olive oil which came with the complimentary bread was good, quite fruity.

The la tur cheese (combination of goat, sheep, and cow milk) was smooth, creamy, and light in flavor. I liked the fruit jam that was paired with it on the side. Both jam and cheese were good on thin crackers.

The roasted mushrooms were quite savory with the pancetta, and I enjoyed it paired with the texture of the sunnyside up egg.

I liked the sausage and broccoli rabe cooked with the caviatelle. The pasta itself was al dente, I liked the pasta less.

The charred octopus had a soft texture, not that chewy was paired with small slices potatoes and cooked green olive parts on the bottom. It was good but didn't wow.

The hanger steak was my least favorite dish, the center of the meat was practically raw. The large roasted potatoes on the side were decent with sprigs of rosemary.

The olive oil cake was excellent, mild taste, nice, light texture with some powdered sugar on top. I didn't really need the creme fraiche or golden raisins in syrup on the side.

Overall, I thought this place was overrated, it was good but there were parts of each dish that I wasn't too fond of. I think the roasted mushrooms, and olive oil cake were the best out of the above, and the only two I would order again.

  8. L'Artusi is always a good meal. I've been here a bunch of times and it never disappoints. They have a great menu that has something for everyone crudo, salads, pasta, fish and more. The food is delicious and has excellent flavor. Nothing is lacking and there is never a need for salt. The restaurant is always happening and it's not easy to get a reservation but sometimes you can get lucky. Give it a try you won't be let down!
