Please don't go over there, it's not french at all (ok maybe just the decoration and it depends what…)
The taste was really bad (at least the meal I ordered), and it doesn't seem fresh ingredients.
the service didn't care about me (there was almost nobody and at least 5 waiters), just one drink of water no more, no bread.
I asked for bread and I'm still waiting…
So please americans or foreigners, as a true french, don't go in this place if you want to have a great french food experience!
You will find food this good in the middle of the night at very few places, but it is delicious regardless of what the time of day is.
I've been here three times with my boyfriend. The first two times, I got the steak frites, which comes with fries. It was done perfectly to my preferred medium. Whatever sauce or gravy they put on it is amazing also. Tip: get the garlic aioli to dip your fries in, you won't regret it, in spite of an upcharge.
On my most recent visit, I got the pork herb sausage, which comes with mashed potatoes, and is also covered in a delicious brown gravy/sauce.
I can't decide which dish I like better. I could probably eat both in one sitting and still crave more. I don't have the most sophisticated palate, but I am a rather picky eater, and was extremely satisfied!
The service was very good. They are open 24/7 and also have a good wine list (I love the Sancerre). My boyfriend and I will definitely continue to come here!
This was an old favorite haunt years ago when I lived in Manhattan — stopped in for brunch on a dreary Sunday afternoon and was happy to see it was still the same great spot. Warm and cozy atmosphere (not too crowded over the holiday weekend), relaxed but attentive service. This is a very classic French bistro, and the menu is all traditional bistro comfort food. My friend and I ordered hearty sandwiches on this visit — very tasty, nice and fresh.
This is also one of the best 24 hour dining options in NY (for a city that never sleeps, tasty all-hours dining can be frustratingly hard to find). Croque monsieurs, burgers and fries, pancakes, and pain au chocolat are all great choices for an after hours/predawn snack.
I've passed L'Express many times during lunch hours and have been wanting to try it for weeks now! I love how when the weather is warmer they open up the doors to create a really nice indoor/outdoor dining experience. A friend and I made a reservation for two at 1 pm on a Wednesday and were seated at a little table right near the open doors. The restaurant has a real Parisian flair to it, right down to the tiny tables. Between the two of us, we ordered the grilled salmon, western omelet, and brussels sprouts with pancetta. I enjoyed my salmon though would have preferred it with the skin off. The waitress kindly allowed me to sub French fries for the basmati rice, and though a little under seasoned they had a nice texture. The brussels were good, but I didn't feel like the pancetta added much to the dish.
Though the food was not phenomenal, we both enjoyed our meal thoroughly and thought the service was wonderful. Definitely a spot I'll return to for lunch.
Remember Parisians were staying on the queue over night to get a burger when Burger King opened its first store in Paris few years ago? I should have already learned from that – Never order burger from a French bistro…
The salmon burger with pretzel bun is probably the driest combination I have ever had. The coleslaw as side came along tasted weird too. It's a pity that the only thing with a taste on my plate was the pickle.
I wouldn't rush here for a meal during daytime, as L'Express is slightly above average when it comes to meal quality and flavor, but easily beats the competition when it comes to menu variety among its late-night restaurant peers.
Food here is about 3.5-4, but I'm really rounding up because it's open 24/7.
I came here twice a few years ago and was blown away by the lamb burger (so much so that I actually had a first date here).
Coming back recently, however, I found that it didn't live up to my expectations. The burger simply wasn't as juicy as I remembered, and at $20 was way too expensive considering the topping selection was limited to just standard onion, lettuce, and tomato (the cook forgot to put cheese on my burger, but I was hungry and didn't want to make a fuss about it). You're better served eating a burger at that price point at Bareburger.
The French onion soup didn't impress me that much. Yes, it's got your standard melted cheese and moist bread combo, but I didn't pack as much deep onion flavor as I would have liked. The onions were finely diced, meaning I didn't get that texture component either. At $10, it's not exactly a bargain, but not all that expensive either.
Bookmark L'Express and come here after a night of partying if you want a late night sit-down experience that's still prompt service-wise, but there are better French places worth checking out in the daytime.
I usually stop by here for lunch as it is very near to my job. My go to items are the Steak sandwich and Grilled Chicken Breast sandwich which both come with fries. It is definitely very filling and delicious. I would say tho the steak one is a little more messy for some reason. Service is usually very good. The thing I love are the fries they are just like perfect haha.
We came here as we hot late for our reservation at another restaurant nearby and it was pouring-so we needed a quick fix! My husband saw L'Express as we passed by it and exclaimed "oh! I v eaten the best moroccan lamb burger here a couple of years back!! You have to try it!" Truly convinced by his excitement i agreed and we stepped into this dim lit cute french bistro looking place and I was really hopeful about the food. We ordered the garlic spinach for starters which looked like green slime and tasted worse- like mush. I usually avoid writing about bad food as it doesn't inspire me enough to put my experience in words, but this was really bad and I kind of owed it to myself to lay it out here- the spinach was the worst I have had , so much so that I had to request our server to take it away and not replace it with anything else should a similar experience repeat itself. Without thinking twice I ordered the same dish as my husband- the moroccan lamb burger with goat cheese which he was sure would salvage our ruined taste buds. cant deny that the burger was good.. It came out looking big and juice with a big pile of golden hand cut fries and as I dug into the burger it was a burst of flavours. But somewhere along the way, as i kept eating it, it got kinda boring and I almost didn't care for it any more. Now I have been to shake shack and in and out and I know how much I enjoy a burger till the last bite and how much that matters, so this was definitely a blah experience for me in all. My husband too seconded that the burger isn't as good as it used to be and we probably wont be coming back here.
