The second I saw that my work cafeteria was listed on Yelp, I knew I HAD to write a review!
First of all, I'm impressed that our little cafe has a Yelp page. Good for them! Secondly, the food and options here vary. There are so many reasons why this place deserves three stars but more reasons why they don't deserve the two stars.
I come here every morning to get my favorite breakfast: egg whites, mushrooms, tomatoes, spinach and cheddar cheese. Audi, our fairly new chef, cooks this for me but sometimes before I can walk over to the other side of the cafe to select a piece of bread to toast he informs me that 1-2 of my requested ingredients are unavailable. It's usually several days or well over a week before I ever see them again. The ingredients that are rarely there? Mushrooms. I understand that I co-exist with several other L'Oreal employees but if there's that many of us, why do we not order ahead or run out so quickly? The largest beauty company on the planet seriously can't afford additional mushrooms? (Ok, I obviously love mushrooms..)
When I have my piece of toast – which is carefully wrapped in the tin foil provided next to the toaster – I glance over the hot station. Nothing makes me crazy but I do appreciate how they offer healthy options. Looking back at the grill, the menu always has a decent assortment of breakfast options: french toast, pancakes, eggs, omelets, etc. As I walk through the cafe to the register, I pass the selection of mini cereal bowls, fruit salad, bagels and spreads, smoothies and beverages (including coffee, tea, juices and water).
Now, this wraps up the L'Oreal breakfast situation. For the lunch situation, there are far more choices floating around. There are taco Friday's, sushi Wednesday's (where you MUST go down by 11:30am or else you're left with scraps at 1:00pm), and specials of the day at the grill and sandwich stations. It always gets insanely crowded around 12:00 – 12:30 so I wait until we're well into the afternoon aka before the cafe closes. This is always the best way to go. Pro ejemplo, if you're rushing to get your lunch, it's 12:30pm and you're heading to the sandwich station you're going to wait awhile. The chefs here take their meal preparations a tad too seriously. Every piece of bread must be cut carefully, cheeses and meats be placed on top of each other perfectly before being placed onto the press or into your famished hands. Though the thoughtfulness is appreciated – I just really want my food.
Over all, the food is here okay. Honestly, sometimes hitting up Pret, Hatsuhana, Dishes or Hale and Hearty is the better option. However, the location is extremely convenient given that it's just underneath the lobby one escalator ride away (for employees). I actually did not mention yet that when you're past the cash register you're in Le Cafe, a large lounge where you can chat, hold meetings, avoid horrible weather or interview potential candidates. As you leave, you pass Le Shoppe aka the L'Oreal company store which may or may not make your wallet happy.
________ ** Jacob B. left a review in 2011 about a mac-n-cheese bar. I've been at L'Oreal since June 2014 and have never seen that. CAN SOME ONE RESURRECT THE MAC-N-CHEESE BAR PLEASE!?
