La Ambatenita Bakery serves homemade Ecuadorian pastries and meals con gusto. From empanadas, tamales, cafe, y pan, there are plenty of options to snack on and sample. They have loyal local clientele. There are enough seats for about 10 people, max.
Hubby and I had a quick lunch here before going to the New York Hall of Science for a date. In addition to the pastries, there is a short steam table with various offerings. I pointed to the roast pork and the lamb stew. The lovely lady behind the counter added beet salad, lettuce, homily, rice, a potato patty (llapingachos?), and fried corn kernels. She also spoke great English, saving me from breaking out the high school Spanglish skillz. The portions were very large (we should have split a plate, but where's the fun in that?). I did not have room for dessert. In addition, the meal was pretty cheap, amazingly delicious, and well worth the adventure.
