This place was fun. Bagels, bagels everywhere, It was lined up to the door but it moved fast. You have to be ready to yell your order out (no problem) . Lots of choice and the bagels were pretty good (I had a sesame bagel with butter), as was the coffee. There is nothing spectacular about this place but they do simple stuff well, which seems increasingly hard for some businesses these days. Friendly staff to which is nice, especially in a chaotic environment like this shop.
These cats know what they're doing, and do it well.
I tend to get my bagels from here before a big race, and even occasionally get one with an egg or veggie cream cheese or something. They are always so good. What makes the bagels on point, of course, is the freshness. The affordable price makes a difference too, but they can be pricy when you're ordering it with a topping.
While the Ft. Greene location may have more selections of other foods, no one beats Court St's bagels. Must be something about being the flagship (well, I consider it the flagship) location. I like the staff too…from the guy with the thin mustache who usually takes my order, to the hard working cashier woman who juggles so much in a short amount of time.
I am in awe of how they run things here. It's quite fantastic.
I stopped by this bagel shop early one morning after observing a steady flow of people to this place.
I ordered a toasted everything bagel with cream cheese after a long wait in line. The wait for it to be prepared was pretty long as well. But I can definitely say the wait was well worth it. The bagel was was the best part soft on the inside and toasty on the outside. However, the amount of cream cheese that they put on my bagel could have generously filled about 3-4 more bagels! I had to scrape of some of the cream cheese off because for one it was so thick it felt as if I was eating a double decker sandwich.
The service is slow but worth it. I would definitely return.
After consuming about 2 bagels per week for the past who knows how many years (5?…ok 7….), I can safely call myself a bagel connoisseur.
The bagels at La Bagel Delight are some of the best in the area, and I'm not just saying that because it's the closest bagel shop to my apartment. I have walked up and down Smith and Court many a times in search of the best bagel experience (which takes into account the ordering process and wait in line) and La Bagel Delight is definitely up there.
Here's how I would rank the bagel spots in the hood:
1. La Bagel Delight – consistently good bagels and spreads and good fast moving lines (newbies often don't realize there are two lines)
2. Mocha Bagels – a close second to La Bagel Delight but loses points for constantly being over crowded and having slow moving lines
3. Court Street Bagels – Over rated, bagels aren't the best, ridiculous lines, and cash only
4. Bagels by the Park – this Smith and President street bagel shop is by far the worst of the bunch. It's slow, the bagels aren't great, the service is eh and I believe they've been shut down by the health department for some violations (they're over a train station so I'd imagine they can't help but have a rat problem)
Therefore, stick to La Bagel Delight if you want a decent bagel. Unless you want the most amazing bagel ever, then you should go to the Park Slope location. Those bagels are pure delicious fluff.
For those of us who are up at six in the morning in this area, there are scant options for breakfast besides the McDonald's on the next block. If you respect your body too much to feed it a Mc-something, La Bagel Delight is a ready option. They open promptly at six and open pretty late into the night for a place that names itself after a breakfast item. Even at the start of the day, there are always a few other people waiting, so clearly this place is popular. The folks behind the counter may not necessarily be the friendliest in the world, but they are efficient.
They have all of the common varieties of bagels and cream cheese, including tofu (both plain and veggie) for the lactose-intolerant or vegans/vegetarians. I usually get mine with cream cheese, but you can order them as a sandwich. Some brave soul in front of me one morning ordered one with sausage, egg, cheese, AND cream cheese, so apparently that's an option too, though I wonder about the taste. My own order of a bagel with plain tofu cream cheese runs me a fair $2.45.
I love this place for being open so early in the morning and for the speed with which they prepare my order. I even love them for the amount of cream cheese they use, which is a nice medium between a "schmear" and the gobs of spread I might get elsewhere. What I don't always enjoy is the inconsistency. I work three minutes away from here, and sometimes, my freshly toasted bagel is already soft and mushy by the time I sit down to eat at my desk. Worse yet, the taste is sometimes off – some of my bagels will have a strange, metallic aftertaste. Other times, the tofu cream cheese tastes a little plasticky (think prepared Tofutti cream cheese, if you've ever had that).
It's not so egregiously off-putting that I'd make wild vows about never returning (in fact, I'm here a few times a week). The texture of these bagels is actually quite right – dense, chewy, and toothsome. However, I personally contend with those who claim that these are the 'best bagels ever'. Better can be had elsewhere.

Four Stars
The owner was spectacularly nice and made sure we were taken of. I got a toasted everything bagel with bacon, egg, and cheese. The bagel was big and pretty tasty. The everything seasoning was worse and didn't have salt in the mix. The bacon was crispy. The eggs were fresh. The cheese was melted and oozy everywhere.
Bagels anyone? I am a huge bagel person, I can eat one at anytime of the day. On average I would say I eat about 5 per week. (Everything bagels are my personal favorite, moving right along…back to the review)
With that being said, I would say I have pretty good judgment on whether a bagel is good or crappy. La Bagel Delight has good quality bagels, they are warm, fresh and made in abundance. The store is relatively small, but they manage to have two sides filled with bagels with a decent array of choices. They have soup (Chicken Noodle and Beef Barley, both pretty good, too)
Now, I guess it is time for me to be the cynical reviewer and state the negatives of this place. As previously stated, I'm a huge bagel person and have been to many bagel places typically the front counter person is very personable and friendly, but not here. They are not rude, but they surely are not the friendliest either. I guess it depends on the day and who is at the front counter.
More importantly, as to my issues with them, they are over priced. In my opinion, $1.80 for a bagel with butter is excessive, especially when I can pay .50 or .30 cents less in Midtown Manhattan. Secondly, along with bagels I usually get their cold cuts along with bagels… they seem to charge a different amount each time I am there.
Two weeks ago, I went there twice, the first time they charged me $2.90 for a quarter pound of Swiss cheese, two days later they charged me $2.65. Today I was charged $3.50, but when I get back to my job I notice the label says $2.50 so I was overcharged a buck! On another occasion, the employee told me he couldn't read the scale properly and it would be $9.00, I told him that's obviously wrong and he just told me that's what the meter said.
C'mon La Bagel Delight, get the pricing right!
Well, I will give credit to where it is due. Yesterday I had a pretty bad experience there. The lady at the front took my order only to realize later that it was not processed. The busy lunch time crowd caused them to forget my order and, as a result, had me waiting there for a while. Therefore, about 9-10 people had their orders processed while I just stood there. And I happened to be in such a rush! It wasn't until the manager and cashier realized the mistake that they quickly took care of me.
Usually, an experience like this will cause most people to give less than 3 stars. But I can't do that. The staff members, despite being drowned with a huge line, were incredibly fast. Most notably was how the lady cashier with baseball cap had an amazing memory, remembering tricky orders. She and the male manager get my respect. Although I was annoyed to have them miss my order, I can't help but give 5 stars for their work ethic. I do see them working very quickly every time I'm there. And it would be insanely unfair for me to write negative. I shall return.
As for food, I always get the everything bagel toasted with scallion cream cheese. Good stuff.
