For a place that has been around 38 years there are not a lot of reviews.
Continuing my quest for Italian Delis and the perfect sandwich. Today I went to La Bella Salumeria in Union City, since I hit up all the Italian Delis in Hoboken and my area of Jersey City.
Very old school. Seems like we've been here before with yes, the hanging meats and cheeses over the counter as you walk in. I was going to order off the Specialty Menu with the lasagna but, the customer in front of me took the last piece. Left my mouth watering (sigh). Since the Polar Vortex is back with us I ordered a cup of Split Pea Soup and a sandwich.
My sandwich was Imported Capacolla & Mozzarella garnished with roasted peppers. The bread was fresh, crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. The meat and cheese were delicious, not too salty as it can be sometimes. The roasted peppers had just a hint of garlic so was not overpowering. I don't get around this area much and parking can be a real pain, but, was lucky enough to get a spot around the corner.
If you like Italian Delis and happen to be in the area put this place in your rotation.
I dropped it just for one reason.
The sandwiches run from $7-$10, but over the last couple of months the amount of food between the two pieces of bread has decreased dramatically.
My standard sandwich there- turkey sandwich with fresh mozz, roasted peppers, balsamic vin, and dab of mayo. Always around $8-&9. Never really sure.
But now there is barely any turkey and the mozz and peppers have starting to diminish. Still $8-$9 for the sandwich. Not cool.
The hot food is still good though.
