I don't understand where all the good Yelp reviews come from this place. I tried the almond croissant which was good and the ham and cheese which was very average. What I can't wrap my head around is the price. Both those things cost me $8. I would not go back.
I adore this place. Honestly I feel privileged to live in Forest Hills, so I am able to eat at La Boulangerie whenever I want. Every single item of food here is extraordinary. I have yet to consume anything less than completely delicious. You see the chefs baking everything fresh in the kitchen, so you know the quality of the ingredients involved here. The breads – A+. The pastries – A+. The sandwiches – A+. The quiches – A+. On top of all this, the owner is there to serve guests and all the servers are extremely friendly. La Boulangerie is a destination establishment. I would travel on the subway to consume La Boulangerie pastries. This is literally one of my favorite bakeries of all time.
The only bad thing I can say is that La Boulangerie is near where I live…which is not helpful for the waistline. Otherwise, A+++ establishment!!
This bakery is a hidden gem!
We wanted simple delicious French food after the snowstorm Jonas and a friend recommended La Boulangerie.
Tip: the restaurant is not on Austin street, its off of 72nd street. So walk towards the scaffolding on 72nd to find the bakery.
They serve great bistro fare in Forest Hills. The meals comes out quick and they expect you to finish quickly ( esp if the bakery is busy.)
We ordered the French onion soup, Cuban sandwich, and plain croissant.
The soup is this rich onion-rendered, Delicious, cheesy body-warming, French Onion soup. The croutons were toasted before being baked with cheese so there is a contrasting crunchiness with the rich soup and molten cheese.
The Cuban sandwich has the fluffiest toasted bread and perfect proportions of ham, cheese and pickle.
The almond croissant had buttery soft inside and crispy outer shell.
What a delicious meal!
I love La Boulangerie!
My friends introduced me to this place by bringing focaccia to my annual Christmas party. They brought tomato, rosemary and onion focaccia bread and pastries. Everything my friends brought was a hit and told me that next time I visit them we will go to La Boulangerie. It was a love at first sight…the breads are made to precision. Pastries are always fresh. Staff is always friendly, If you are not sure what kind of bead you want they let you taste a bread. If you want to stay you can have a sandwich and a soup or coffee. The coffee is really good!
Do yourself a favor and stop by La Boulangerie!
I'm actually writing this review as i'm chopping down on this delicious chocolate croissant. Its soft, buttery, and the chocolate is really good. The plain croissant was good also but i prefer the chocolate. Add a iced coffee to it and it was perfect! Cute little artisan bakery. Will come back to try the bread next time.
This is a decent bakery. They have pastries, soup, salad and sandwiches. If you have a lot of money to spare and I mean a LOT of money, give this place a visit. If not, don't bother buying anything from here. The food is very overpriced. Its so overpriced the menu doesn't show prices.
Soup of the day is different everyday. I over ordered because I didn't realize how big the soup was. I wanted French onion soup but they didn't have it on the day I visited.
This is what I had:
Tuna sandwich ($8): a small sandwich. enjoyed this very much, but for $8 it's not worth it. Comes with a side of bread and butter. I chose walnut and raisen bread. It had the perfect amount of sweetness.
Gazpacho soup ($8): Tomato soup. Tangy but a little too tangy. It goes well with bread.
Iced cappuccino ($4.50): Expensive but very good.
This isn't a bad bakery but I could get my moneys worth elsewhere.
I find this place to be extremely overrated. Pastries and croissants are nothing special. I ordered a a smoked duck sandwich and disliked it so much that I ended up tossing it after only a few bites. I dislike the communal seating and find it awkward. The employees are not friendly at all, and everything is overpriced. Their saving grace is their olive bread, the only thing I've ever enjoyed.
Fine, if seriously cramped French bakery in Forest Hills. Creamy, rich hot chocolates and delicious baked goods. Looking for a lite pastry, try the petits choux à la crème, they're excellent. Prices are on par with the quality as well. Just note, if you want to hang around with your pastry and hot drink, there's a 15 minute seating rule which I find odd. I guess take out is better.
