The cemitas list didn't provide a carnitas option so I went with al pastor. This was not in the top tier of cemitas but it was still appealing enough; the main issue was that the ingredients basically acted on their own instead of in concert. For example, a spicy pepper only appeared in half of the sandwich. Chips were a little on the hard side.
This is a nice sit-down taqueria. I just wanted a quick bite, but when you eat here, you get quasi-sit down table service. They have nice tables in the back with a rose on the table. pretty nice. Certainly can take a date here. especially if they like mexican music blasting over the speakers. They definitely want to elevate the experience of eating a taco, When you eat in, they provide a complimentary basket of nachos with salsa. As for the food, I had ordered a chicken (pollo) and steak (bistec) taco. The meat is finely chopped but I found it lacking in flavor and over salted. Not sure how fresh the meat was either given the saltiness. I prefer the meat to be less finely chopped and more savory. Tacos are served with some onions and lime wedges. All of these ingredients make me think that they are aiming to serve "lighter" fare vs serving a greasier/heavier type of taco. Commendable but may not be what you are looking for. Tacos are served with two sauces: a salsa roja (pretty much a hot sauce) and a salsa verde. I didn't find either to be that interesting and asked for some more of the regular salsa that was served with the chips. This regular salsa is what most taco joints provide (however, this one has more cilantro in it), but somehow they don't offer this with the tacos. Of note, the tacos are made with corn tortillas (I kinda prefer regular flour tortillas) and are sprinkled with cilantro. This place loves cilantro, so if you are a fan, this is for you. Me, not so much. Again, the cilantro helps to make the tacos "lighter" and more summer-y, which is commendable. I felt obligated to leave a tip even though it wasn't a full sit down service. I probably won't come here again even though the set up is nice.On the plus side, tacos are $2.50 per and the cost is the same for a street taco on the same block. Worth trying. Maybe I'm just picky about my tacos.
