It's not the best Colombian food I've eaten (that'd be in Colombia!), but it. Isn't well be the most for what I paid for. Seriously the amount of food you get here is incredible, from the starters to the entrees, they give you so so so much food. I order 2 appetizers as my meal: guacamole with fried plantain chips- amazing!!!!!, I also had a huge arepa, which it wasn't as good as the areas in Colombia, but it was certainly good enough to jog my memory. My co worker ordered a salad with chicken in it. They seriously brought out almost an entire chicken on top of his salad. We couldn't finish our food. My price tag was $10. After tax and tip. Where else in the city can you get that good a price for quality food, and a lot of it? Probably nowhere. This is stick to your ribs Colombian comfort food, so the health conscious might need to look elsewhere, but if that isn't an issue, get to Queens and eat some of their food!!!
So… their idea of a breakfast sausage is a hot dog?
Alright.. I guess. Well the soup was hearty and I was amused by the eggs served in a frying pan.
I definitely like the atmosphere and decor, service leaves something to be desired though – our waiter disappeared midway through our meal and the new waitress took over… at 10am. Is this a standard shift change time?
She purposely avoided our table for 15 minutes because she didn't speak English. It was bizarre… it's not as if she was looking for someone to come help us. I even tried the universal hand signal for a check. Instead, she gave me this apologetic look of fear from across the room and scurried away. Seriously. I just wanted to pay and leave. I then tried to convince her in my broken Spanish to come over so we could get our check.
Stuck on a rainy friday morning in a tire shop, hungry and waiting for my car to get his new shoes, we headed to La Choza.
A block away from the tire shop you wouldn't quite miss this place. It will immediately catch your attention with its exterior design screaming out Colombian flavor.
I ordered Desayuno De La Choza which consists of rib soup, mixed rice with beef, perico eggs, steak corn cake and sausage with a choice of hot chocolate or coffee for $11.95. Kinda pricey for breakfast but once the server brings you all the food it will all make sense. The rib soup hits the spot. Warm soup with tender meat. The plate comes overflowing with the arepas, steak and sausage. I was overwhelmed with all that food. A lot of Food for this little gal. Even if I was that hungry.
Service is pretty much ok considering we were the only ones in the restaurant. She did make a slight mistake of just putting in one order of the meal. Or maybe she didn't. She took one look at us and probably thought, "these two would not finish that much food". We should have taken the cue from her. We were filled to the brim.
Would I come back? Maybe. Lunch menu does look real promising.
had no idea this spot was even open! great casual easy going place. come late, early..its open 24hrs a day! friendly staff and good tasty food.
Went for dinner the other night, first thing I noticed is this place is especially DARK. Takes intimate to a whole new level, thankfully there are some street lights close to the restaurant outside! I ordered a Hawaiian hotdog, which was decent. Nothing too crazy, I think it would've been better with fresh pineapple rather than a pineapple sauce. The food is good, nothing to write home about, but solid. I was disappointed in the service. Very minimal and my Mom's entree was brought out a full 10 minutes before my Dad and mine. Other than that, I'd probably go again to explore the rest of the menu.
