  1. $6.95 lunch special + BYOB? Ummm, yes please!

I'm ashamed to say I threw mad shade at this place over the years, what with it being located right across the street from the county jail. Also, if you happen to be blowing mad cash at the neighboring bail bond spot, take solace that you'll be able to eat heartily for cheap at La Frontera! Needless to say, location isn't the best, but for the delicious grub and festive ambiance, I'm willing to get over my hang ups quickly.

Food: Delicious. Lots of veg friendly options. My vegetable quesadilla was massive. Definitely had left overs for dinner, even though it was difficult to cut myself off. That quesadilla was a good time!

Ambiance: Aztec (maybe Mayan?) overload! Lots of vibrant colors, stone work, carvings and such. When you spot the sneaky phallic stonework, you'll have a good immature laugh.

Parking: super frail. Probably 6 spots max. No worries, there's ample side street parking. [DO NOT park in the bail bond lot. Because, just don't.]

Service: very friendly. Food came out quickly. Perfect for a lunch time run.

All in all a good time and I'll definitely be back with my lunch time crew!

  2. We came here starved on a Saturday night and thought we could grab a quick bite, sadly they said without a reservation they had no space. As we made our way down the block, the manager yelled for us to come back. So there we sat adjacent to 2 large parties, so close that I could easily have grabbed some queso fondido to share…I might have unsuccessfully attempted….

Despite the crowd, as a Latina and lover of Latin food, I know that good restaurants are often small ones where you easily make friends. So we sat in our tiny table, popped our sparkling Moscato wine and ordered some nachos!

    Nachos:
The nachos themselves were good, a decent portion for $10, came lathered in cheese, beans, some meat and sour cream. I would've wanted some guacamole or pico de gallo, but with the salsa they gave us on the table it hit the spot.

    Chihuahua Combo:
As for my entree I ordered a combo platter, because I always want to try everything and it came with a mini chicken chimichanga, a beef taco and an enchilada suiza. My favorite one of the 3 was by far the beef taco, which I thought would've been the most mediocre. But the meat came with great flavor and just enough sour cream, that it was excellent. The chix chimichanga was good, but not great, I was actually happy I didn't order the large one instead and the enchillada suiza is not much of a party in your mouth, but the salsa verde was very good.

    Steak Quesadilla:
My friend ordered the steak quesadilla and as a complete glutton, I asked to taste it because it looked so good. I am normally not a quesadilla lover, but this had great flavor and nice slices of steak in there that made me a little jealous I didn't opt for this instead.

I liked this place a lot more than Blue Moon in Englewood, the selection of food was more Mexican and just way more variety. I also like that it looks Mexican, down to the attire of the servers…and well even the servers themselves are all Latinos. The service was very friendly despite the crowd, we also didn't wait very long for our food to arrive, plus any place that chases me down the block to come back in always gets brownie points from me!

  3. Best mexican spot around! Staff is super friendly and the owner walks to every table to see how everything is. We love the very small atmosphere because it has a homie feeling to it. Whenever we want authentic mexican food….this is our spot! Byob!

  4. Came by for lunch twice now. Although they do deliver (minimum of $15), it's always nice to get out of the office. One accommodation that's nice is the ability to place an order via telephone before your actual arrival. Once you step inside, you find your order plated and ready to eat so no valuable (and much needed) lunch time is wasted.

The lunch specials are fair, ranging between $6.50 to $10.00 a plate. They offer complimentary chips and salsa…some chips were a little stale once but no biggie. Now I wouldn't necessarily call this place authentic Mexican food. I believe it is a little Americanized but their menu does offer a variety of enchilada and taco dishes. The pechuga asada (grilled chicken) topped off with onions was juicy. The carne asada you can skip, it nothing special. Go with the chicken! Mucho more bueno! All lunch specials are served with a side of yellow rice and a choice of pinto or black beans. I almost always prefer black beans but this establishment offers better pinto than black beans.

Though I haven't given it a try yet, co-workers of mine continuously order the quesadilla here (served with a scoop of sour cream and guacamole). It keeps them loyal to La Frontera as there are two other local Mexican Restaurants. Reason I'll keep coming back? I LOVE their half and half here! It's included as a drink for the lunch special. A-OK in my book.

  5. Fantastic service. Prompt seating and great staff. They are chirpy and loud, yes, but that's good to see someone so excited after a long day at work.
Love their guacamole, salsa and chips. The fajita was made to perfection. Rice and black beans are my favorite too. One of the best Mexican places in this area. I will definitely go back again.

  6. A bunch of our friends were in the mood for some mexican food and noticed that La Frontera delivered so we all decided to give it a try.

Before I go any further with this review YOU HAVE TO ORDER THE CHURROS! They are absolutely amazing and filled with a vanilla cream OMG!

Now back to our food.. we ordered guacamole and chips, the chucho's fiesta platter, enchiladas suizas, 2 chicken quesadillas, 2 orders of churros with vanilla ice cream, and 2 jarritos. First things first they only brought us one order of churros and charged us for 2, the guac and chips were just ok to others I have tried. The chucho's fiesta platter that I ordered for myself was very bland over all, I was expecting more flavor. My boyfriend said that his enchilladas were just ok as well and also lacking flavor.

Honestly the only thing I will be coming back for are those churros.

  7. The Guacomole, O-M-G!!! Don't you dare step in here and not order the guac, you will truly be missing out.  The chips are made fresh, super crunchy, non-greasy, and salted just right.

I am not the biggest fan of Mexican food, but I can totally make the exception.  The Chicken and Steak burritos were really tender and delish.

  8. In the mood for good Mexican food in Hackensack? Go to Mi Rancho. Stay away from here.  Poor quality and overpriced. No insulation so if it's cold out don't sit by a window (which takes out half of the restaurant.) the crab and shrimp appetizer was awful (imitation crab, tiny frozen shrimp – not worth $13!) even the chicken fajitas were lacking – dry and generic. The best parts of the meal were the free chips and salsa. No thank you! Next time I will stick with Mi Rancho ( or if in rush – I'd rather go to Taco Bell.)
