  1. Want to go to Colombian baked goodies paradise? Admission is free and prices are ridiculously friendly along with sweetest workers you will ever find at a bakery. The coffee is phenomenal and the Colombian hot chocolate is divine. If you want a filling arepa con queso breakfast they have that or if you want a warm sensationally delicious empanda, they have that also!

Now let's get into the Colombian Yuca Bread that's served here (Pan de Yuca), for some gluten free wonderness this quite possibly can nail the spot to being one of your favorite breads since yuca flour is utilized with fresh cheese, baking powder, and eggs. I'm one of those dorks that go crazy with dipping the Pan de Yuca in the coffee but it's an experience worthy of living. La Gata Golosa is one of those Colombian Bakeries in Queens worthy of the hype. It's located by the Q and R stop of Broadway, come by and give in to the cheesy bread like wonders of the bakery!

  2. I highly recommend tasting the rosca (see attached pic).  It is a cheese bagel.  I can imagine Dunkin Donuts catching wind of it and selling their rendition of it for 4 times the price.

  3. Nothing fancy about this place, just very tasty baked goods. I haven't had their platters yet, so I can't comment on those (except to say that they LOOK delicious). I didn't love the empanada de pollo. The empanada de queso, the pan de bono, pan de queso and empanada cambrey (like a giant pan de bono filled with guava and cream cheese) definitely hit the spot though. The other day I tried this thing they had that was like a sweet tamal stuffed with cheese, and that was sinfully good; it tasted like a cheesy delicious corn casserole. If they have it, get it (it was in the same area as the empanadas, wrapped in foil).  Anyhow, this is a great no-frills place for Colombian goodies, and the women who work the counter couldn't be nicer.

  4. Sancocho. I absolutely love sancocho. Oxtail soup, for those of you (us,because neither do I) who don't speak Spanish. I could live alone off of good Oxtail stew! It really does wonders for you on a cold night…or when sick. La Gata opened up not too long ago I believe and my bf and I called on a whim asking if they had oxtail soup (colombian places in Astoria serve it on specific days ex: Tierras Colombianas has it on Saturday while Pollo Mario's & La Gata have it on Sundays…yes we are trying to compile a list for every day of the week) restaurants tend to run out of the beefy yummy soup quite too often- so we called and asked and thankfully they had some! Not the best, but far far from the worst. Definitely yummy and worth trying! I've been here about three or four times since for the soup.

Wouldn't recommend the empenadas- they aren't all that. Would just head on over to Mama's for those on Steinway and 34th!

  5. I was in Astoria and needed a bathroom.  This place with spying through the glass…does have one.  You do need to tell the ladies at the front to buzz you in.  I was so thankful she noticed me standing there patiently waiting until I started to melt.  Did I mention it was snowing furiously outside?   I walked inside the cafe with my hubby.  He purchased a hot coffee and got me an Avena (avena caliente is a pulverized oatmeal with cinnamon and cloves and milk).  My Avena was delicious!  They were able to reheat it for me, too.  Very thoughtful.  I saw that they have an extensive menu, yet I just ate, so I felt badly as I inhaled all the yummy aromas around me.  I saw huge rice platters and also some pastries.  I might just come back to try the food!  🙂
