  1. I've only got a birthday cake, service was very friendly and helpful, I was able to pick up on the same say, the designs and colors were just as I requested. I had the tres leche w guava and vanilla flavors, the cake was not overtly sweet or heavy, the kids love it!  I will definitely go back for more birthday occasions!  They also have an online website you can just reserve it online and pick up after.  Very reasonably priced too!

  2. I love tres leches, it is one of my favorite things in the world.  This bakery has about 10 options, with peaches, other fruit or the pure form.  I love the options, not best I have ever had but a good product.  The cake part is nice and spongy but it didn't fall apart which is a nice feature.  The food savory food options looked good and I love the pic menu's just wasn't hungry after the cake!

  3. They make really good tres leches and personalized cakes! The tres leches by itself is enough to make me come back here, but if your looking for a personalized cake you won't be disappointed when you go here.  They make beautiful cakes and it is also delicious.  Not the best place to sit down and enjoy some sweets because it is usually very crowded here with people in and out. But if your looking for cheap and delicious pastry and your in Sunset Park I highly recommend La Gran Via Bakery.

  4. My boyfriend and I met with a former colleague at this bakery that's situated on 5th Avenue in Sunset Park. The moment I stepped in there was a beautiful array of desserts, pastries, cupcakes, and cookies in the displays. This is a really small  bakery with limited seating as well. There's only a counter and about 5-7 stools.

We came to La Gran Via Bakery to catch up and grab coffee. Our former colleague treated us to hot beverages and as for me, he treated me to an iced coffee and we bought a coconut cookie and a slice of  strawberry cheesecake.

Their iced coffee was great! It wasn't too sweet which is exactly what I wanted and had a little bitterness to it. The strawberry cheesecake was mediocre. It wasn't the best strawberry cheesecake I had. It didn't feel soft or smooth like a cheesecake should be.

I also bought a pound of butter cookies. Since we went a week or two prior to Valentine's Day, the bakery already had Valentine's Day cookies in stock. There were cookies that were red and pink, heart shaped and a cookie that's shaped like a pair of lips (a little freaky if you ask me).

The staff here are very laid-back and friendly. I think I would definitely come back to La Gran Via Bakery if I'm ever in the neighborhood again.

  5. They used to be a good bakery, about 10years ago, an my stupid self kept coming an thinking it would get better but NO not at all, there hot food is decent, coffee is good but Honestly I'm not here for the hot food. I want bakery food some yummy rice pudding cookies flan cake etc, why does everything taste like a fridge?! Like its been in the fridge for weeks.

It really sucks bc it's a old school spot very known an well liked. Just slacking on the love for food the flavor.

Ah I'll walk to the next best.

Sorry I really hate to leave negative reviews but hopefully this helps them get back to what they used to be.

  6. I've gotten birthday cake twice from here.  One time I customized it with fillings and the other I got one of the pre made tres leches black&white cakes.  Both times my coworkers were raving and asking where I got the cakes from.
Assortment of other pastries is great too although I haven't tried many of them.

  7. I only enjoy coming this place when its a last minute last choice quick bite to eat. The grill is always on and you can order from burgers to steak sandwiches its not the best or greatest but if its been a long night and you gotta fill yourself up it will work out. The pastries are not bad but not always fresh and can be much better than usual I think the best thing they have is the powered guava filled pastry and the one with cheese in it and i also enjoy the flan too. Its also very affordable too which is always a good thing especially with the economy we have.

  8. I came here to buy a cake for my dad's bday.  I bought the pineapple/vanilla custard cake.  The cake here was not bad.   I didn't like their meringue frosting. ..it was too sweet for me.   Also, I wished the pineapple filing had chunks of pineapples. It was more like a pineapple gel, that comes from a bucket.  I think I liked the slice of tres leches cake better.

They have different types of tres leches cakes.  The girl asked me what type I want and I was like, "err, the regular one???"
