  1. Maybe the hookah would have helped, but it's going to take more than smoke to make this place work.

Tapas are actually not bad. The succulent lamb sliders were best, but the chicken skewers were a close second. The hummus was dull, and made duller since we had ordered pita with 3 dips. (Maybe the dips were hummus, hummus, hummus?) The pita was grocery-level. The sangria was unmemorable.

The interior is oddly sterile. Maybe the setup is designed for the DJs and belly dancers, but those wide-open spaces feel half-empty in the early evening. The bar looked like the best spot in the house.

The service is amateurish, and seems to consist of hard-working runners and clueless hostesses; the latter seem primarily concerned with the state of their hair. (It looks FINE, honey.)

  2. One, I was NOT expecting to end up here. Two, I was not dressed for the part. Three, regardless, La Nuit ended up providing me with one of the best nights out I've had in QUITE a while.

The beau was having a little belated birthday celebration with some city friends; my friend Krystal was in town and causually mentioned how she always wanted to try hookah. The beau LOVES hookah. Putting one and one together, coupled with the fact that we did not want to go to the Lower East Side or Astoria, La Nuit came up on our trusty Yelp apps, and off to the east side we went!

I was expecting something lax. What I entered was a club-esque atmosphere with beautiful people dancing and smoking hookah. The ladies were gorgeous in their tight dresses and high heels. I…had on a pair of skinny black polka dot pants, a ridiculously oversized grey t-shirt from Urban, and a blue cardigan from J. Crew. Oops. Ha! As we arrived at 11 p.m., we lucked out and got one of the last groups of tables downstairs for six of us; we had the misfortune of being literally next to the front door, and it was a chilly and rainy evening, but no matter. I kept my cardigan on and let the Blue Mist hookah and Aphrodite cocktails take me away. The DJ in the back was spinning some really good tunes and wasn't overtly annoying except for the occasional, "WHERE MY BIRTHDAY PEOPLE AT?! WHERE MY SINGLE LADIES AT?!" (C'mon…that's requisite DJ language. Ha!) The hookah itself lasted us a good 90 minutes and was extremely smooth. The service was a little hit or miss, but friendly…although while walking through the crowded dance floor to the bathroom, our waitress literally pushed me aside with a "Hey, hey, move sweetheart!" in a kind yet aggressive manner that made me…well…laugh. (What else could I do?) I didn't eat, but some of my table mates did, and they seemed to enjoy chicken bites and hummus.

Sometimes the best nights out are ones you don't expect to have. La Nuit provided me with that.

  3. Stopped in here for a dinner with fellow businessmen, and we were seated in the back. (They asked us if we wanted to do hookah upstairs… in the middle of the afternoon. I guess some businessmen try in suits then go back to the office?)

The menu is straightforward, we had the servers recommend a few dishes.

Pita & La Nuit Dips were great – I wish we didn't have to choose 3, but we tried the hummus (standard), babaganoush (better), and a spicy muhumarra (not bad but required a bit more salt).

Rosemary Lamb sliders were not moist, even done medium, and ended up very dry at the edges… the centers were okay. The slider buns were crisp and a bit old. But the rosemary on top… one had a spider's web still on it. Really? At least wipe off the dust.

Ceviche La Nuit was a clean, crisp ceviche with scallop and shrimp, but mostly liquid, almost no seafood.

Grilled Shrimp & Cauliflower Gremolata – four fileted shrimp, and small ones… no real taste, just grilled and a bit of salt. The gremolata was good, but was too difficult to eat alone (too salty). We ended up putting our remaining pita to use here.

Overall.. not really that impressed with the food. They serve a number of beers, including a German weissebier, but it wasn't cold, and that…. well, that wasn't exciting. I can see it being a drink that cleanses the palate if it were cold. Ah, well.

They do have a $20 two tapa, one beer, special at night during the weekdays (not Friday). Server was reasonably attentive, though water refills took a while. Overall, if you're young and into hookah, sure – but older businessmen – not so much again.

  4. Besides being upton, La Nuit does not fail.  The hookah was easy and coals were coming through.  I did not feel like I had a rough throat the next morning which I tend to do sometimes from some Village/LES spots.  The ambiance is cool and sleek like others say and it's just very inviting.  There are happy hour specials until 10pm (rock on!).  I'm looking forward to trying the food and hearing what the music has in store here.  This is a great spot to unwind and have a drink and smoke after a work day.

  5. We had a bad experience here. Getting in was easy enough. The security guards were friendly at the door. We went inside and were seated fairly quickly. We ordered food and drinks as well as hookah. I had. Asked and been put on the "list". Which doesn't mean shit.

First they forgot one order of food and totally messed up another. My friend ordered the hummus platter and it came out with no hummus!

The falafel was ok. A little too mushy on the inside and a little too much clove.

My friends food never came out. So we had to find a waitress to let her know. (She never came back to the table). An hour and fifteen minutes later her chicken came out and it was not marked as a hot item on the menu. The dipping sauce was pure sciraccha sauce. Which set everyone's mouth ablazed!

At 12:00pm the upstairs area opened. We were told by numerous people on staff there was no cover To go upstairs. Considering I called in advance there is no way I should be paying a cover on "girls night" if I'm "on the list".

So we asked one of the members of staff how it worked just to be on the safe side and my friend, who was on the "list" that she would have a $50 cover to go upstairs.

Let's get this straight here. This place in no way shape or form is worthy of a $50.00 cover. As a matter of fact they are not set up to be charging a cover. I was upstairs and saw it and it's couchs for hookah with a dj that's it. You can do all of that downstairs. It isn't worthy of ANY COVER. I have never paid a cover at a hookah lounge ever because between food, liquor, and hookah you are spending money there.

The whole place is mismanaged once you get pass security. You can see it. You can't get a waitress at all and they weren't even busy. The big guy with the trim beard trying to shake people down for a cover was a joke.

I will not be going back under any circumstances.

  6. Amazing happy hour 4 to 10 pm. 5 dollar wine/sangria . $10 hookah flavor of your choice. We tried mango and it's ok! Fun place to chill. Buy two get one free. We got chicken skewers (ok), lamb nachos good!!, lamb sliders good!!! Can't wait to come back and try more tapas. Also yelp has a good check in deal. Great service. Not that crowded on frid night but I don't mind !
