My husband and I were set on going to the restaurant next door when we sadly realized they were closed for vacation. I decided to try La Riveria Trattoria instead. They were able to fit us in without reservations since it was early on a Saturday. We ordered the calamari to start and it was not fresh at all and taste was actually horrible. At this point I was starting to feel disappointed by my decision of choosing this place. Until the main dishes came out. I ordered the Homemade Fusilli Avellinesi pasta. It was super fresh and the sausage sauce was so good. It tasted airy and light for a meat sauce which I loved. My husband ordered the Strascinati Dello Chef pasta dish. It was a homemade shaped coin pasta tossed in a leek sauce. This was super unique and like nothing we have tasted before. It was delicious. Overall I was pleasantly surprised by this place and would definitely come back.
I love love love that their is such a great restaurant that is dedicated to being Gluten Free. We had been wanting to come here for a really long time just never did, then I saw the Groupon and said well here we go no better way to try a restaurant.
Pro's: The Gluten free options are just awesome, great friendly staff and owners.
Con's: My chicken actually tasted more like egg which was the only downfall.
My Fiancee LOVED his food, I loved the apps, and dessert. I will defiantly have a pasta dish next time I'm here or preorder one of the GF meals.
Perfect for anyone with Celiacs or Gluten allergy!
Start your evening with a cold antipasto dish which had a nice selection of meats, cheeses, and roasted vegetables. We paired that with fried calamari which was okay. For dinner I went with a simple spaghetti and veal meatballs. Spaghetti tastes homemade and the sauce was delicious. The veal meatballs were cold so I didn't get the true hot flavor from them. I also tried one of the sausage and brocolli rabe raviolis which were very good. Id be curious to see how people compare this to Amore in Wayne.
The restaurant is easy to get to and has its own parking lot. Seems like you need reservations so make sure you plan in advance. Expect a homey environment and the feeling of a well run family business.
I didn't have a reservation, but they were able to squeeze me in. I'm glad they did because the food was excellent! I'm definitely coming back again.
I tried this place for the first time last night. I went to meet a friend there at 730 and my friend was late. The hostess was very gracious and let us sit at the bar and brought us very good bean bruschetta while we waited.
They have a full bar. You can bring your own wine or beer but their corkage fee is $15. Since it was our first time, they only charged us $12. The complimentary bread was nice and warm and the entrees were served quickly and were great.
I was confused by the two places side by side. I went to the sit down place (fancier) but if the food is as good, I am going to the casual place next door next time!
I can't believe i haven't reviewed this place!
I was dead set on eating at La Riviera Gastronomia one evening with my boyfriend, when by mistake ended up stepping foot in La Riviera Trattoria: the restaurant next door. I didn't realize my mistake right away. I actually called Gastronomia in advanced to make sure they were BYO and the gentleman on the phone said yes. Upon entering Trattoria, I was utterly upset that they had the audacity to charge me $12 corkage fee when in fact I called to double check on the BYO policy.
We sat down anyways and decided to look over the menu. Furious and crying at the table, the server comes to us and tells us about the two La Rivieras, and offered to waive the corkage fee for the evening. I felt a little better but also a bit skeptical staying not knowing what kind of restaurant I suckered myself and my boyfriend into. Their menu was rather extensive, with many special dishes, mostly handwritten. We had ordered the ARTICHOKE app, BOLOGNESE FETTUCINE por moi, and Fusilli Avellinesi for my bf. Immediately after ordering we were given complimentary bruchetta and cheese to start. The stuffed artichoke was flavorful but didn't tickle my fancy as most of it was unedible (except the heart). Our entrees were by surprise really really good. Great flavor, perfectly cooked pasta, in generous proportions. For dessert, a light and airy, tasty TIRAMISU.
Despite my error early on in the evening, this place was excellent. The service was wonderful and the food just as par. I have yet to try Gastronomia since our Trattoria visit, but from the looks of the exterior (as we were leaving Trattoria), Trattoria is more formal sit down than Gastronomia — should that be a factor for anyone else looking to dine Italian for the evening.
I have been to Riviera Gastronomia right next door, a couple of times and am a huge fan of that spot. During my most recent trip, I had every intention of going again but at the last minute my boyfriend and I decided to switch it up and try Riviera Trattoria instead.
*SIDEBAR: I don't care what either establishment says, there is definitely some affiliation between them. Why would the owner of the second said place name their restaurant so similarly to a restaurant right next door?? On top of that, they both advertise as gluten-free, although Gastronomia isn't certified and doesn't have a specific GF menu. Seems a littleeeeee skeptical, but whatever both are great in my opinion!
It was pretty early on a weekday, around 545 PM, so when we showed up without a reservation (which is apparently required during the week), the host was very accommodating and seated us right away. He also asked if either of us are gluten-free, which my boyfriend is. They have a special menu and a dedicated and certified gluten-free kitchen! This menu is pretty extensive and includes a bunch of Italian dishes, aside from the standard GF pastas and pizzas offered at most establishments, for patrons with gluten allergies/sensitivities. They even have GF rolls (1 per diner and an additional charge for more), beer and vodka. This isn't anything out of the ordinary but, its nice to take the guess work out of the equation and just be told upfront.
Our server was quiet but did a great job, as expected because it was pretty slow. The owner also came out to speak with us
We ordered the mussels for an appetizer, which was good but nothing to rave home about. For an entrees it was Shrimp stuffed with Lump Crab for me & Gnocchi Marinara for the boy. I was worried about the quality of the crab stuffing, but as soon as my plate arrived I was reassured with my decision. It was definitely lump crab, and the fillers were minimal. The flavors were on point and the sides (roasted green beans and tomatoes + pasta or salad), were the perfect accompaniment. The gnocchi were light and fluffy, exactly what you want and almost surprising for a GF pasta.
Overall, the meal was very enjoyable and if I'm feeling like a fancy pants I will definitely come here over a more casual Riviera Gastronomia.
