La Sabrosura Bakery

“My favorite is the Pan de Lech (Milk Bread), Pan de Bono, Pan de Yuca is a recent new fav.”

“Something about the name change, perhaps (now it's called "La Sabrosura Bakery"), but the empanadas were awesome!”

“The hot sauce really gave it that extra kick, and most definitely negated the slight dryness of the chicken.”

    BEST EMPANADAS IN ASTORIA!
I work across the street and the smells that come from this bakery are so very tempting. There isn't a full week that passes without stopping in for at least one empanada. My fave is the beef and potato, it's hearty for a little empanada and only $1.75. I've tried them all and the chicken is hit or miss, some days it's light and airy other times it's dense and crunchy/burned. The pan de bono is so good fresh out of the oven and their coffee is pretty good too although sometimes it tastes burnt.

I really love going to La Sabrosura Bakery whenever I can get to Astoria.  This is a great place for fresh empanadas!  I love their baked beef empanadas especially when they just come out of the oven it is not greasy at all.  It's crunchy, a bit flakey, filled with a generous amount of moist ground beef and some onions, plus its piping hot.  Then pour some hot sauce on it while the steam is still coming out of it and I am in heaven.  They really hit the spot when you want a salty and spicy snack but not a whole meal.  I have tried their fried empanadas, chicken, beef and potato, but I am addicted to the baked beef.

Their baked breads are really good too.  I have had their pan de yuca, and pan de queso.  I find that sometimes when you order these types of breads they can be quite dry, or hard and lacking in flavor but I find these to be really tasty and baked well.

They are not terribly overpriced and the food is really delicious.  This is definitely a fantastic Columbian bakery to try if you are in the area.

Late night and post dinner pub crawl typically calls for a food nightcap before the trek homeward. White Castle, or pizza always seems to come to mind when out and about looking to obtain twilight provisions, as choices are bleak in my area.

But hangout in Astoria and that song changes fast, with a dizzying array of eateries. Pizza nor The Castle ever crossed my mind and as I perused the offerings inside this busy bakery.

Cicharon w/ potatoes was the nosh we came for, and left with — yet a return is imminent as time was a constraint due to illegal parking.

A huge half ringlet, I'm guessing a section of shoulder — of deep fried pork skin was served up hot with fat pockets rendering into the meat and the top rind crackling away with every bite. One bite pork, one bite potato, one sip of homemade hot sauce (San Diego style) then chew and repeat with multiplicity .
A harmony of flavor profile began playing in my mouth. No, this was more akin to a  symphony.

Can't wait to go back to eat the menu from front to back.

I've lived in Cali for the past 5 years, and randomly came here while on vacation. WOW THIS PLACE BLEW ME AWAY. Easily one of my favorite affordable empanada experiences.

This bakery is open all night. After a night of partying, this is the go to spot for empanadas, pan de bono, chicharron, papa rellena, buñuelos, etc. My friend loves their chicharron. So after 4am, we stop here and get our fix on anything Colombian cuisine. Everything is fresh. The bakery is small but there is a counter and stools to sit and eat your baked goods. It always busy, morning, afternoon, and evening, all day. The staff is friendly. So check out this bakery.

If you happen to be around Steinway st. with Broadway, make a quick stop by this South American (Colombian) bakery. Get the empanadas (chicken, beef, potatoes and beef) and the pan de queso (cheese bread). Optionals: Pan de yuca (yucca bread), Pandebono (cheese bread), flan and papas rellenas. If you are more curious/adventurous, try the bread with guava and cheese, plus everything else.

At only $1.75 each, the empanadas are meaty and filling. They don't cut corners. Don't say no to the hot sauce they provide, it is not very spicy and makes the savory pastry even better. There is a reason this tiny place at the corner tend to have customers coming in and out the late afternoon, young and old, for a snack before dinner.

    Cash only, I think….

This is a really awesome bakery and hidden gem in Astoria. I love how diverse this neighborhood is, but there isn't a lot of authentic Latin places so La Sabrosura Bakery really helps to fill that void.

Things I've tried here include their "Papa Rellenas" (chicken stuffed potatoes), chicken & beef empanadas, pan de yuca, pan de bono and their cheese bread. Oh and the pan de leche!

Their Papa Rellenas, Pan de leche and cheese breads are my fave. The empanadas are kind of hit or miss and it's tough to compete with the empanada experts over at Mama's.

I generally go for the Argentinian baked ones when I'm here because I feel like they might be less fattening than their deep fried Colombian brethren…but they also usually have white meat chicken inside them and I prefer juicy white mean chicken over dark meat.

Their Pan de Leche is a delicious, fluffy sweet bread that pairs perfectly with a nice, creamy cup of coffee. Their cheese breads go perfectly with…well…anything. Especially red wine. Uh huh.

The Papa Rellenas here have always been fantastic! Very nicely seasoned and always the right amount of fluffy vs. crunchy. Texture and flavor. These are perfection, if you ever check this place out – be sure to do yourself a favor and get 1 or 2.

I love their guava and cheese pastry.  Their flan is outrageous!  The girls that work here are nice and you will find whatever kind of baked goods you are looking for!
Try their chicken or beef empanadas.  Delicious!
