I grew up in this neighborhood, and I can't believe the amount of gentrification that has taken over here. The nostalgia is thick in the air as I venture back to these neighborhoods from time to time…and I happened to stumble upon La Salle Dumpling Room (which I find almost strange as I associate 'La Salle's corner' with my mother specifically telling me not to hang around there).
Over 20ish years later, this dumpling room brings a better and brighter idea to the name of the street for me. I was in complete awe of the interior. The pictures here don't do the place justice. I felt like I was transported to old world Shanghai, with the vintage chairs and classic black and white chinese photographs on the walls. 10/10 for interior design if that's what counted most.
I only tried the pork and crabmeat xiao long bao. It was very good. But pricier at ~$9 compared to say nan Xiang. However, it's understandable for the neighborhood. I will definitely come back and give an updated review on more menu items soon.
Yum. Came and had great scallion pancakes, pan-fried pork dumplings, AND xiao long bao. I was not expecting the soup dumplings at all. I don't recommend the pork buns, the sauce wasn't for me, but they weren't bad.
The space is really great too, they did a great job on the remodel. I love it.
Not my favorite dumpling place however since it's close to the office, it will do. Not a fan of the entree dishes here but the dumplings are decent.
