  1. We went La Tarte Flambee last night, on 4th of July, after work, at 10 PM. They were so kind to accept us even though kitchen was closing. We have been asked if it was our first time there or not and since it was the 1st time, we needed some help and explanation. Our waiter, sorry I could not catch his name, took his time to explain. Thanks.

We got a Forestiere with double mozzarella to share, me normally not a fan for onions but they did not bother me. A pint of Kronenberg Blanc, $9, my new fav beer.

We even had time to order desserts, so we got a banana split and gateau au chocolat. Banana split is not like the ones we are used to, I found the whipped cream A LOT, ice cream would be better instead, cinnamon taste was nice. Might not be the best idea after a tart flambee since they are the same dough however I LOVED the chocolate cake. Warm but not sweet, best friends with the scoop of ice cream 🙂

All below $60. I read they have a backyard too. I would love to go for brunch. Their ' GO FORKLESS ' slogan is nice but not possible for banana split. Make sure you ask for silverware 🙂

  2. Hmmm… it's not bad. The outside, enclosed patio in the back was a nice place for a drink on a warm and sunny afternoon. Not to mention the strong and well done drink which I enjoyed on a warm and sunny afternoon in the enclosed patio in the back.

The food? Eh… it's light and not so bad but also nothing special. We sampled three different kinds of "tarte flambee" and none really stuck out in either a bad or good way. That said, service was good and quick, though the outside tables and chairs were fairly dirty.

We probably wouldn't go back but I think the ambiance might be a bigger draw for some folks.

  3. Great place to have brunch on a weekend. It has a backyard patio with tables, umbrellas, and fans to keep you cool. Also, the backyard patio has TV access to the EURO soccer games.

The place offers multiple options of food. The simple Tartes Flambees which are like pizza but with thin crust and offered as 8 to 10 slices in a serving. I believe the recommended flambees are Mediterraneenne, Kipik, and Biquette. I believe I tried them all and they were delish.

In addition, they offer the Flambee Combo which consists of 1 tarte flambee and bottomless mimosa for $30.

In terms of drinks, it seems they offer a variety of imported drinks. I tried the Kwak which came in a very distinctive drinking glass. Very awesome drink!

Anyways, I'd recommend this place to have a great time for outdoor brunch on a weekend!

  4. Adorable restaurant with really nice outdoor garden space that gives it a romantic touch. Their menu consists of delicious wines and an extensive list of flambées that include savory and sweet options. You even have the option of building your own! Here's what I had:

    – Chocolat Fraise with strawberries and chocolate sauce
    – Gratinee, which consists of bacon, onions, and gruyere cheese.

Both were delicious, cripsy, and straight from the oven, although it took a while. Lots of gooey cheese on the Gratinee, but they definitely skimped on the bacon. For the Chocolate Fraise, both my friend and I agreed that we liked the savory one more.

But I have to warn all those who are enjoy heavier meals, this place is not for you. My friend and I still felt hungry after devouring both of them (along with our bottle of wine) so we ordered another; our own creation of gruyere and caramelized onions. This was also good, but took a while to come out and sadly, they skimped on the caramelized onions.

Overall it was a nice time here, but the food wasn't particularly spectacular. What was missing there was made up by the nice ambiance, good wine, and my friend's good company.

Tip: Even on a weekday night, they get super busy around 7pm-8pm so I would recommend grabbing a table before then!

  5. Tarte Flambée – an Alsatian/South German dish originally used as a test dough to determine heat/readiness of the oven. Whatever, this is really good though! Nom Nom nom nom…

First off, they all have a crème fraîche base, which gives it a very peculiar taste. Very light and approachable. The crust is super light and thin. Think 'thin-crust pizza.'

Mediterranean Flambée $16 – My flambée had small chunks of lamb, drizzled mint sauce and an overload of onions. My one complaint was too many onions. It gave the entire dish an oniony smell and the taste detracted from the lamb. The overall bite was great though – juicy lamb, spicy mint, nutty gruyere and onions all balanced by that light crème fraîche base.

These flambées were great on such a warm day. We were seated outside in the back of the restaurant (hard to see from the street) and it was absolutely gorgeous! The rustic yellow paint, gushing fountain, and olive green accents imparted such a relaxed European vibe.

If you like beer, they have Kronenburg 1664 on tap and also a very delicious Belgian Karmeliet Tripel (fruity & spicy, malt/grain, light).

    Recommended: Mediterannean Flambee, Biquette Flambee

  6. Went here a little while back. The waiter was nice. He recommended a few things but I eventually went with their lunch tarte specials. He also gave instructions regarding the salad which were helpful. It came with a Salad and a soda. The original price was 13.95 for half but since it was a specialty one, it came out to a bit more around 16 or so. This wasn't informed I think but I am not sure.

Salad consisted of a whole lot of Romaine lettuce with a few pieces of tomato/raw onion. The dressing was solid but overall, I found the salad itself to be a bit bland. The waiter informed me something that I did not know which was that a way of eating the tarte was with some of the spinach.

    La Méditerranéenne Flambee
Grilled lamb, onions, mint sauce, gruyere cheese.

The lamb was good. So was the mint sauce/gruyere. It reminded me oddly of pesto though. The onions were solid as well. Overall, it was quite greasy but quite good. The salad helped with the richness as the guy noted.

I'd try the Briquette or something else next time. i think the mint sauce made the greasiness a tad too much.

  7. I would actually give this place a 3.5 stars.

5 stars for atmosphere – if you're sitting outside that is. The back garden is beautiful and somehow seems to drown out the noises of the city.

4 stars for food – the Biquette flambee and the s'mores flambee were both delicious but hard to eat and the crusts were a little over done in certain areas.

3 stars for service – very slow, and we had about 3 different waiters for one meal. We also heard complaints from other tables around us.

3 stars for price – the pricing of everything just seemed off to me. The tartes are expensive for what is basically a flatbread pizza with three toppings. The Create Your Own option makes absolutely no sense considering it starts at $16 and any additional topping is $1 (all other tartes were about $15 so it is very cost ineffective to create your own). When I checked in on Yelp it said I could receive a free cup of coffee… but not during breakfast or brunch. This just annoyed me. Why would I want a cup of coffee with an effing pizza? This just seemed like a cheap move and kind of put me over the edge.

I'm dissapointed because I had walked passed La Tarte Flambee 20 or so times and was very excited to try it. And while the food and outdoor seating was special, it just is not worth returning.

  8. My daughter was in town and we decided to try La Tarte Flambee for lunch. I had lived in the Alsace-Lorraine area many years ago, and while my daughter has spent an extensive amount of time in France, she had never visit Alsace-Lorraine. So this was the opportunity for me to remember the food and for her to sample it for the first time.

This really brought back memories. At the suggestion of the waiter, who was French, we ordered two "Lunch Specials". We started with the very good sized Green Salad which had a great homemade dressing, followed by first the Provencale Flambee, of tomatoes, basil and gruyere cheese, which was amazing, and then we split the Jardin Tarte with caramelized onions, mushroom, and leeks with cheese. I loved the Jardin, my daughter less so.

We ended with really great coffee, that also brought back French memories.

The food was very good and very authentic. The service was perfect. The only small negative was that we arrived at 11am sharp, and they were not quite open for business. The waited arrived in a few minutes and accomodated us after a short wait.

Being that I live only blocks away, I am sure I will return many more times.
