Well I've been coming here for years I've lived in fairlawn since birth and this restaurant has been declining for most of that time… After I visit I almost always say I'm nevrt going back and this was one of those times.. First I had a dead Nat floating in my iced tea of course I noticed after a few sips ugh… Then I ordered an avacado cheese and ham omelette and it seemed like they tried to fry the avacado or something it was gross.. Then I took a bite and bit something really hard with my tooth it turned out to be the avocado pit you know the little black one on the top of the avocado not the huge seed…. then I had some home fries they were really bland no flavor even though I saw bits and pieces of green pepper mixed into the them…. the service was lousy and the waitress was more worried about the big party of people that came in after us then us… overall it's never the best experience going there and I usually only go out of dire circumstances.
I grew up in Glen Rock so once you got your license (or even before) we would spend a lot of time here. That was quite awhile ago. I have been here twice recently (late) and it was okay. Its diner food. I did not have the experience some seem to have had with the servers (shout-out to Kinga) I would stick with the breakfast foods. We had the spinach artichoke dip and the dip itself was good but the chips it came with were tomtits (no really I think they were actual tositos) The next time I visit I am getting a slice of cake I saw in the case up front because it looked tasty.
First off, don't drink the water…just order a cheeseburger deluxe and a Coke and you'll be fine. The tap water could be tested in octane, and drinking it is always a display of bravado among my friends and I when we visit. But again, it's all about the cheeseburger deluxe…a juicy burger with two slices of cheese, fries, onion rings, a pickle and cole slaw. Even better at 3AM!
Personally think that Empress and Gotham City are much better. My family has had some problems with some of the food. Slightly below average outside of how long it stays open.
Never understood Land & Sea. It's a diner that seems to be stuck in a time warp. While other diners have renovated and revamped their menus to change with the times, Land & Sea has not. The Suburban in Paramus and Gotham, also in Fair Lawn are prime examples. Interesting food choices and eye catching decor add to their ambience and make dining there a pleasure. The food and staff at Land & Sea, by contrast seem dated and tired. Of course, all of this could be trumped easily by awesome food but again, not here. They have always had the reputation of being someplace to go if you live in Fair Lawn and don't feel like going anywhere. Even the Empress, itself showing signs of wear and age, is a superior choice. Sorry but you have to spend money to make money.
Been here a few times as I lived in Fair Lawn most of my life. This place is always disappointing. It feels kind of dirty all the time. The food is only ok at best. It cant make up its mind if it is a diner or some other type of place. Much better choices in the area this is not it.
Stopped in for coffee and a snack while waiting for a train. Place looks nice enough. Typical diner seating and decor. Free Wi-fi with no password needed. Servers are OK. Passable coffee. I had a blintz which came with a generous side of sliced pineapple and sliced pears (canned) and some good sour cream. Unfortunately the blintz were subpar.
I will try it again, maybe go for a burger.
Prices are in line with other diners in the area.
