  1. This has been a bookmarked spot for awhile. I finally came. We were volunteering at a big walk at the Intrepid and had been standing in the sun for 7 hours we were famished and in need of an adult beverage. This place is perfect.

It started to bottom out as we started to walk so we walked in, tired, wet and hungry. We left just tired and semi-wet. The bar was pretty empty so we bellied up there. The bartender was extremely friendly and was asking us about the walk we were at, etc. and he seemed generally interested. I ordered their lager, it was pretty good not quite worth the $8 price tag, but good. I ordered the bangers and mash and the wife fish and chips. The sausages were delicious and the mashed, good god it was a mountain of mashed potatoes I couldn't come close to finishing it. They were delicious though as well as the gravy that came on top. The wife liked the fish and chips, I tried the fries and they were very good.

Overall, for this neck of the woods something non-touristy and welcoming this is a homerun.

  2. So lucky the Landmark Tavern was next to my Hotel. The reviews were all amazing and I needed some food and a cold beer and thought to stop in for a try. Established in 1868 and probably one of the oldest Taverns in the city if not the oldest. A throwback from another era for sure. I sat at the bar and ordered the Fish & Chips served with salad. The Salad tasted amazing and the Fish and Chips were the best I have ever eaten. So good I bet the employees were staring at me wolf it down so quickly from a distance. Too Funny. The bartender was great and offered up some bread and butter to start. Top quality butter and the bread was fresh, Had a few pints of the Landmark Ale that was refreshing and They had a kick for sure.. Great Service, amazing Atmosphere, Food was outstanding. I would love to come back again to try some other items. Worth Checking out. A Landmark for sure.

  3. Found this place on a list of bars to visit in New York City. It's down near the Hudson River in an area where there are quite a few car dealerships – mainly locals I would assume. Friendly barkeep and the wait staff was efficient. Small selection of beers, clean all around (including the restrooms.) I'd stop in again, especially if I just wanted to relax with a beer and catch a game on TV.

  4. At the time of this particular Yelp I think I have been to the Landmark Tavern a little over a dozen times over the last few years.  While its been here for many decades it was not until I first adventured down to the Stage 48 club that I learned about it and sampled its offerings.  Since that time at the venue, I have made it a habit of visiting The Landmark whenever I was hitting one of the conventions at the Jacob Javits center.  If I was attending Comic Con, Photo Expo or Toy Fair, you could be rest assured that I would be making a visit to Landmark for some fine fare afterwards on one or two of its days.

The space is cozy and offers a sizable front bar with plenty of places to sit and some tables on the side of it if you felt like sitting there.  There is also a quieter dining room that is very comfortable so depending on who is with you for your visit you have a few options.  I have done both but mostly have sat in the front to enjoy the vibe of the space,.

Food wise I have never had a bad meal there and have tried the steak wrap, the burger, the sheperds pie and the fish and chips.  All have been nicely sized portions that while filling my belly do not leave me feeling overstuffed.  I don't mind the size of the portions at all since I have a lengthy walk back to the train to let me work some of that out afterwards.  Beverage wise they have a fully stocked bar but I am mostly a beer guy who sometimes drinks wine and the occasional but rare shot.  I have stuck with the Guinness pint or their own blend of Lager if not getting a Stella Artois or a glass of wine.  The pour a nice Guinness here for sure and while I have not yet gotten out to enjoy it, have some live music on some nights during the week which seems like an interesting thing to do.

The staff is always very friendly to my guests and I when we come to visit and that is what gets the high rating and the admission that I am going there again soon.  Nice work folks, keep it up.

  5. I had scouted this out prior to coming to the city -heard about it on an episode of the Bowery Boys: NYC History podcast. It sounded like a neat place to visit and happened to get rave reviews on Yelp already. We were extremely satisfied with our visit here! First, it was late on a Sunday night, ~9:30pm, and not much was open. Landmark Tavern had tables set up nearby the bar with little candles lit, adding to the ambiance. The bar was packed and rowdy but didn't seem to disturb us.

I ordered the Shepherd's Pie -phenomenal! Would get it again in a heartbeat. I'm picky about Shepherd's Pie; I prefer on the dryer side. It can get gloppy and too much gravy sometimes but this was perfect. Not too flavorful and the veggies were just ever so slightly crisp which added to the texture. Hands down one of the best Shepherd's Pie I've had out. My husband ordered a corned beef sandwich which wasn't on the menu. The corned beef dinner that was on the menu seemed too heavy and rich for so late at night. The waitress was very accommodating. The sandwich turned out to be absolutely delicious. It was on the drier side, but that's ok -it added to the flavor of the corned beef. Your choice of Dijon mustard or spicy mustard. Cole slaw was great, too and I don't usually like cole slaw.

Would highly recommend eating here! It's worth it for the experience. You can sit down and have a nice meal and get the same great old-world Irish experience without having the lack of breathing room at McSorley's, as much as I love that experience too!

  6. One of the greatest places in New York for fish and chips. I took my friend who is from the UK here for a late dinner, she said it's the best she's ever had in the states. I agree. The Ruben is also amazing.
This is one of the oldest taverns in New York, mostly everything is original.  Wonderful staff and friendly service. Donnchadh and Abe are fabulous.  Go for the fish and chips and stay for a few drinks at the bar. Always a good time.

  7. I stumbled in here one night as my group of friends and I were starving and didn't want to walk too far for food. The place was spacious, clean, and we were seated promptly.

Food was for the most part abysmal. Actually, it might have been one of the worst tasting selections of food I've ever sampled. The burger was dry and tasteless. The wings were dryer than a California lawn during these times of drought (too soon?). The only reason this place didn't get a 1 was because the house beer was decent, and the server was nice enough.

Steer clear of this place for anything other than a drink or two.

  8. Had fish of the day and Irish bangers & mash w mom for a casual Saturday lunch. The bangers were very delicious and well seasoned while the fish plate was a bit greasy. Overall good quality.
