The west New York area has multiple underrated really good Cuban restaurants, however if you are looking for the best and authentic look no further. Las Palmas reminds me of my childhood and visiting my Cuban godparents for dinner. I came here on a Thursday night and it was packed yet we still managed to find some seats. My husband ordered the blood sausage which he enjoyed. For entree we ordered the churrasco to share. The steak was juicy, full of amazing flavor and cooked to perfection. We also ordered sides of white rice, black beans and fried Plantain chips. The Plantain chips were delicious and an excellent compliment to the rice and steak. The only warming I have for this place is that the food is heavy if you are not use to eating this way. Personally its one of those restaurant I can not go more than twice a year but boy is it absolutely delicious and worth it.
After a double shift at work with no food in the fridge, this is the go-to spot in North Bergen/Union City area. Ridiculously big portions for crazy cheap food. I have been here after work, and even if this place gets busy during late hours, I don't have to wait too long for my order. Gotta love this place; it feeds me well! They are known for the Churrasco, but don't forget to try their Oxtail and Beef dishes! And ask for some picante to go. You're welcome 🙂
As far as Cuban Food up north…This is my constant go to, I've been many a times with my family and tried many different things, Mofongo, which you have to prepare for the whole day by not eating anything because this will fill you up. I had the Chicharron de Pollo, DELICIOUS! and recently the Cuban Sandwich, which can't be rivaled. My mother loves the bistec but my grandfather believes it to be too rubbery. Either way, you won't be disappointed with anything off this menu.
There is no better churrasco anywhere than here. Trust me on this one. There is not enough room in this box to tell you what is delicious here – because everything is! Downstairs is cafeteria style and upstairs is more upscale…but no matter where you are eating…it's consistently great food. But can we talk about the churrasco again? (Aka skirt steak for the non Hispanics) It is perfect. And even the small one is HUGE. So is the rice and black beans…
And the tostones rellenos…OMG. Worth breaking any diet for. I won't even get started on the sangria because I may just get in the car and drive there to get some LOL. They offer red and white and I favor the white but both are so so good.
I grew up in a family of Cuban restaurant owners. Given the choice between eating at my uncle's place where I could eat for free, or eat at Las Palmas…I would choose Las Palmas. It's that good!!
Since everyone here is Spanish or Hispanic.. I predicted a very good meal and my high expectations were met.
– Churrasco is hugeeee. Actually, all their entrees are huge and can easily become 2 meals. At like $26 or so, it feels like that's how much I would have to pay to get raw churrasco from a grocery store.
– I think the churrasco comes with rice and beans (hugeeeee portion)
– The short ribs were pretty massive as well.. and just $16!
– Love their sauce platter. There's like a green chimichurri one, garlic one, and tomato one. I can't really remember what's in them but they were all yummy. They offer a great vinegary contrast to the steak when you want to switch it up, which is nice.
Credit cards accepted.
Felt a bit neglected.. probably cause they have a lot of regulars, or maybe they treat their people better. Who knows, who cares. I'd come back again for the food.
I have been to Las Palmas a few times. The cuban food served at this establishment is always wonderful. The churrasco is quite large, and of course made to order. The service is quick as is expected. Take out is also easy! This is definitely a spot that locals, and people that are from Hudson County frequent often. You will always find a good meal at a decent price here.
Came here for an early dinner. Ordered the chicharon for an appetizer and for the entree we ordered churrasco, short ribs, moro, vegetables (the portions were pretty big) and a bottle of cabernet. Our waitress Adrianna was the best! This made for a great experience to eat here. The steaks came out sizzling and was cooked to perfection. We had flan for dessert which was a nice ending to our meal. We will definitely be back (the breakfast menu looked good)!
Tip: there is street parking but also free indoor parking at the back of the restaurant. They also have their own supermarket next door.
Bergenline is inundated with good spanish cuisine however if you want GREAT, you need to try Las Palmas! What I love about Las Palmas is that it is bi-level. The main entrance takes you into the casual, every day, your mom and pops, restaurant. It doesn't look very appealing if you're on a hot date but do not fear. Once you go upstairs, it's a completely different vibe. It's a spacious layout and quite the perfect ambiance for a nice intimate date with lovers, friends, or family. Sometimes they have a live band playing to entertain guests. There's also a long bar upon entering which is fully stocked. The upstairs however is only opened on weekends so I suggest calling in advance just to be sure.
Las Palmas is known for their amazing churrasco steak. The small one is $19 and it is huge. The steak is thick and tender and cooked to perfection (depending on how you like it). It comes with a side of your choice. There's plenty of options to choose from but I always order the white rice with black beans. The best part about this order is that it comes with 3 different sauces. I love sauces and condiments so I was really excited to try all 3. They have a garlic sauce, a spicy salsa, and the a lemon-line cilantro sauce. For the appetizer, I recommend the shrimp on tostones. The juice over the tostones is perfection. The shrimp in garlic sauce is amazing as well. Don't forget to order the pitcher of sangria with your meal.
Las Palmas is a hidden gem located on Bergenline. The staff is super friendly and super attentive. They deserve the 5 star.
