Walking around in the area on a Sunday afternoon for brunch, this restaurant was relatively empty and had air conditioning…Sold. The simple menu had eggs, sandwiches, pancakes, drinks – not much more you need.
Started off with the Barcelona Sangria ($5), an odd flavor combination but fine enough to drink. Tried to order the Guacamole & Mushroom wrap, but they were out of avocados. How is a Spanish place out of avocados? Before dinner? Can't you just walk to the nearby market and get it? Settled on the Spanish Omelette instead ($11), an unseasoned egg wrapping a good amount of chorizo, some cheese, and some veggies. The salad that it comes with looked wilted and old, so didn't touch it. Home fries are your standard fare.
Service here is friendly, but the small plates they brought us to start were dirty (didn't use them). Food here is only okay so probably won't be back to try dinner.
Service: warm, genuine, efficient.
Ambiance: mellow (we were there on a Tuesday night around 7:30 and it was not crowded at all).
Food: amazing!! Highlights were the palma y aguacate, gambas al ajillo, croquetas de bacalao and grilled salmon. Delicious!
Woohoo Las Tapas.
While Hudson Heights/Washington Heights is not an area of the city I frequent, I came up for a bite and a few drinks with a friend and glad I stumbled across Las Tapas. We came on a Wednesday night, which is their Pasta night. (They have different special nights every night of the week.) On this particular Wednesday, a portion of the evening was overtaken by loud yet beautiful though sometimes obnoxious Flamenco music and dancing in the middle of the dining room. We took our seats at the bar and were greeted quickly by the amazing and awesome bartender Jo, who took great care of us thru the entire evening.
We tried the Barcelona Sangria – normally $8, on special for $5 – as well as the Lamb Meatballs, and the Tuna Tartare ($11). The lamb meatballs were served in a delicious red sauce along with two slices of italian break to complement. The tuna tartare was a good portion of actual tuna tartare over a generous portion of cut-up avocado, garnished with a soy sauce variation that was super tasty. Not to mention, just two Barcelona Sangrias….definitely got me tipsy. Overall, it was a great evening, and I would definitely come back if I'm in the neighborhood.
Great neighborhood place. Enjoy the garden when the weather is nice.
Ben the waiter is is the best!! Give him a raise!
Try everything on the menu. Some things are good some are GREAT!
Go Inwood. Places like this are making the neighborhood a better place.
The pork soup, the rice bombas are the bomb, and the Yuca fries!
I live near this place and I've totally overlooked it. The wine is fabulous and so is the sangria (on the sweeter side) but the food is to die for! Get the tuna tartare. Do it. And try the pizzas. I personally liked the fig and prosciutto pizza but there were a lot of options. It's a good place to go to talk and it has great ambiance. I definitely should come here more often than I have been!
My birthday 2016 celebration continues for the month of May where my journey in life takes me to Washington Heights in the presence of good times with a good friend. I decided on seafood and fish, and of course wine, which he took me to Las Tapas.
Las Tapas is a quality Spanish restaurant wine bar that offers an extensive selection of wine and Sangria along with Italian pasta and your typical burgers and wrap sandwiches. Our meal consists of:
* Fried Calamari
* Spinach & Cheese Empanadas – generous portion
* Black Seabass – pan seared swimming in a sea of tomato vinaigrette with Thailand Jasmine rice. I never had Seabass before as I always enjoy Tilapia but with an open mind decided to chart a different course.
* Paella Marina – a medley of calamari, mussels, shrimp, clams, peppers, onions and peas in Saffron rice and broth. My favorite was the shrimp and the Saffron rice as I LOVE shrimp.
* Two wine glasses: Finca Tempranal Tempranillo, La Mancha, Spain 2013 (red)
Our server, Taho is warm friendly and attentive ensuring our experience was pleasant in a welcoming hospitality. The takeout menu contain gross spelling errors: safran and vinagrette (correct spelling: Saffron and vinaigrette) which disturbs me as a prolific writer/poet. Facilities are moderately clean and well stock with basic amenities. There is an outdoor patio and on select nights live band performances are held. Décor and ambiance are simple and intimate. Entrée portions are plentiful to eat our fill. Somewhat pricey but worth a single time splurge. Business cards and takeout menu are available upon request.
loved this place. Definitely a great brunch spot!
Its +$15 for unlimited drinks. You can get mimosas or 4 different types of sangria (Classic Sangria, Spanish Sangria, Cava Sangria or Peach Sangria). The peach was a little too sweet for me, but overall they were all great. Or $5/drink without the unlimited special.
I'm not a sancocho expert-but I definitely enjoyed theirs! I also had the churrasco sandwich (so yummy!). The meat was flavorful and tender and the bread was soft and delicious.
The service was also great!
I'll definitely be back 🙂
A great addition to the neighborhood!
I visited Las Tapas for the first time tonight, for a low key Sunday dinner with The Boyfriend. We started with drinks – he got a beer but I ordered the sangria flight. Four small glasses of their various sangrias, equivalent to two gigantic glasses and all for $15. Not bad.
So many things on the menu looked good, so we ended up going a little crazy. Our salad was perfect for summer: frisee, grapefruit, dates, almonds and goat cheese. We got the lamb meatballs (with a little quail egg baked in each one!) and the pork belly – both plates big enough to be considered an entree in itself. The arincini and mushroom and bacon dishes were both really tasty as well. And The Boyfriend ordered the montado d anchoa, pureed eggplant on crostini, topped with one cured and one fresh anchovy. He said they were perfect, but the idea of them was too fishy for my taste.
The service was attentive and friendly. The back patio was the perfect place to eat and chat on a warm Sunday evening. Really, my only regret was ordering so much food that I was too full for an order of churros for dessert. I'm already planning on going back and what I'm going to get!
