I spotted this truck on Old Slip next to 55 Water Street and the menu looked awesome with many meat dishes and specialty sandwiches. You usually can't go wrong with Latin food because of their large servings and juicy meats so it didn't take much convincing for me to give this truck a try. Since it was my 1st time here, I wanted something hearty so I ordered the Pernil with rice and beans, but I noticed that they were famous for their Jibarito sandwich so I'll definitely be getting that next time.
As for the rice and beans, the serving size was massive! They placed a huge amount of Pernil in there with a more than generous amount of rice and red beans. The rice and beans were very soft and the bean sauce mushed the rice a little which I liked. The Pernil was a bit hard though and not as chewy as I'd like. There were spots of dryness on the meat and I wished they included a bit more skin on the shredded pieces of Pernil. For $10, the serving size more than satisfied me, but the slight dryness of the Pernil was not what I was looking for. I'm not saying all of it was dry, it's just that I wished they included a bit more of the oils on the meat so that it stayed moist.
A food truck that serves hispanic food in the 40's on Midtown East? JESUS TAKE THE WHEEL.
Has a replacement for Sophie's finally showed up in the form of this Boricua food truck? Unfortunately it has not.
The food here overall is just a tad salty. I've tried the pernil and the stewed chicken and while the flavor was good, it was always a tad salty and nothing that blew me away. At $9-10 for a rice box you also expect a heavy portion and unfortunately that's also not always the case. Sometimes if the right guy is there he'll make sure to put enough meat in it for you but it seems like they err on the side of cheap here with their portions.
A decent food truck when you feel like making a switch but hardly more than once every two weeks, tops.
My first time at Latin Kitchen NYC a food truck on 47th between Park and Lexington Avenues. I had been meaning to check them out and today was the day. Apparently they have been on the Food Network. I was intrigued by their famous Jibarito Sandwich. It is a Puerto Rican delight. Instead of bread two slabs of fried green plantains barely contain the hulk of a sandwich inside. I got the La Cubana. The La Cubana is their take on a Cubano. Juicy roasted pork, ham, melted Swiss cheese, onions, pickles and Special LK garlic mayo. Holy crap this was a gargantuan masterpiece. Two hand sandwich and messy but so worth it. Every bite was awesome and I'm now fighting off a nap. The guy taking the orders is a character with charm and sales ability. Talked me into trying the guava and cheese Pastellios which he discounted for me. These bad boys were made fresh and were crispy and delicious. I didn't need them but oh so good. Will I be coming back? Hell yeah!! Everything looks good and the prices are good. W-F every week.
