Attention, cheese lovers: Tuesday nights at Le Fond equals affordable cheese fondue and half-priced bottles of wine! When we arrived around 6:30, the cute little space was completely empty but it filled up slowly over the next hour. We ordered the Tuesday night fondue special (vegetarian, with apples, cauliflower, broccoli, and bread) along with side salads and a bottle of wine. Even the cheapest bottle of red wine was tasty. All in all, only $60 + tip for a great, fancy French meal for two with good service.
Faced with an hour and a half wait for brunch at Five Leaves on a recent Sunday, our party opted to go a few blocks away to this nearly empty restaurant.
We were VERY satisfied with our brunch and happy to be turned away from Five Leaves. Bf had the fried chicken and polenta and I had the nutella french toast. The juicy pieces of fried chicken were flavorful and perfect with the creamy polenta. The gravy (poured onto the plates after reaching the table) was indeed, the gravy on top. The nutella french toast batons somehow had nutella swirls in the batter of the bread, the toasted hazlelnuts and the dab of yogurt were just amazing.
The restaurant itself is very cozy and inviting. Shades of periwinkle on the walls, farmhouse style tables and chairs, and and overall comforting vibe. Service was attentive and friendly. We were so comfortable that we stayed long after we finished our meal, and the waitress kept coming back to refill our waters and coffee.
So went here for brunch today. The place looked lovely inside, good vibe and not that crazy. I got the cheese, bacon and egg sandwich and it was good, definitely hit the spot. Nice job on the coffee brew – just that perfect amount of flavor.
The one thing they can kick up a notch was service. I think this had more to do with the waitresses not having defined roles or zones. There just seemed to be a lot of confusion. Also we ordered beignet's and they were supposed to come before the brunch and they didn't come until the rest of the meal arrived. Our waitress was a class act and took it off our bill for being so patient. So if they can work out some better service I would go back. The food was descent and its a marked improvement from the shit hole restaurant that used to occupy that space.
