My wife absolutely adores this place, and I generally agree with her, except I do feel like I'm paying an excessive amount for very little food.
I was very impressed by their vegan dishes, as my wife ordered the black bean hummus tartine and I ordered the 6-vegetable vegan quiche. I am NOT a vegetarian by any means but I was curious what the hubbub was all about and expected this quiche to be this bland slab of cardboard. Instead, I had a very palatable, tangy, vegetable mix. My wife absolutely adored her black bean humus tartine as well, finding it deliciously creamy, tangy, and beautifully presented.
One thing I didn't enjoy was the whole-wheat sourdough. I firstly did not find it very sour Secondly I thought it tasted kind of stale. Thirdly, it was pretty expensive for bread at approximately $4 for a 1/4 loaf of bread. Another that kinda sucks is how hard it is to find parking in Greenwich village. I came when it was raining, expecting less people but boy was I wrong. It's a pretty cool plaza with lots of other nice shops, so remember to bring coins to feed the meters, and extra time to find parking!
In conclusion, the ambiance and the layout of the restaurant was very pleasant with lots of dark wood and hand drawn signs. The servers were also very kind and helpful, and the bathrooms were good and clean. I also read that they use organic ingredients whenever possible and I guess that makes the higher prices oh so slightly more justified. I'd come back here in a heartbeat if I had a 6-figure job but with the prices as they are, I would rather spend my money at a Chipotle.
The more I visit Le Pain, the less appealing it becomes to eat here. I tried the Crispy Quinoa Cake ($14.30) at the Greenwich location, and it did not taste healthy at all. The quinoa cake was extremely greasy and tasted like it was pan-fried in tons of oil. It was topped with four slices of ripe avocado and homemade tomato sauce. They didn't mention anything pesto in the menu, but it had drizzles of pesto on top as well. Underneath the quinoa cake was hummus. Overall the flavors were well-balanced, but I just didn't like how greasy the food was!
I'm a fan of Le Pain for their latte and apple turnover. I've been to this location many times. It's never too crowded which I love. I can just sit back, relax and enjoy a cup of latte. My recent visit, I had chicken chorizo and cheddar omlette. It was a good portion for breakfast and tasty too. Try it!
I feel that if I pay a higher price for my food, it should either deliver in taste or quality. I understand that this place has an organic bent…but I don't feel that I got much bang for my buck. At my table, I had a taste of the chicken chirizo omelet and the oatmeal with banana and pecan. Both were acceptable but not memorable. I actually don't even remember what I order. Won't be coming back
Nice location in downtown Greenwich. A good option to hang out while I wait between meetings.
There is some street parking but you will be better off parking at the train station and walk over. There are quite a fee nice retail shores nearby so you can window shop as well.
The decor is very similar to other LPQ. I think they were training a new guy when I was getting my coffee. Took a while and when I got it it was half empty. They were kind enough to top off the cup with milk but defeats the purpose of ordering a latte.
At least I know it's there in case if I am waiting for a train or need to kill time between meetings.
A perspective from a non-Lower Fairfield County socialite…
Very nice lunch spot, which I don't consider to be overpriced at all considering it's on Greenwich Ave. Lunch, drinks, and even dessert for 2 came to $33… $42 with the tax and tip. That's not exactly a wallet buster for this part of the world.
The service wasn't horrendous. Were there a few flubs and omissions? Yes. But the gentleman was exceptionally nice to us, and catered to our needs adequately. I must admit I was embarrassed when I ordered a Diet Coke and had no idea this was an organic restaurant. he respectfully made alternative suggestions, and so I went with an iced coffee.
I had their grilled ham and cheese with a side salad, and it was very well done. The pistachio tart was exceptionally delicious. They have fresh breads, pastries, etc. It's like an organic Panera with an extra dose of egotism.
I've been to another location up,in Rye and absolutely fell in love with their menu. Until recently, I've been coming to Lé Pain Quotidien, located on the Ave for quick lunches. It's reasonable in price (relative to Greenwich), but not on the cheap end. Meal selections are great and abundant-satisfying any palate and preference. Their menu is very defined and precise -not overwhelming at all.
Lé Pain's dishes (from what I've eaten) all taste wonderful. Items are well cooked. For instance, I absolutely love their vegetable quiche. It has just that- broccoli and mushroom, and of course, with all the other components that make up a quiche.(I've been to other popular restaurants on the Ave, who claim to make a vegetable quiche only to find out on the very first bite that it tastes like bacon. I called their attention on it! F@*k Me!).
Décor at Le Pain, is like going in to an airy, country restaurant with flair. Service is great and atmosphere really cozy.
Lighting is soft, particularly today because it's so rainy, when I went in, there was a nice, subdued sparkle-which I was digging so much.
