Le Pain Quotidien

“It was quite delicious, as was the coconut macaroon (which may have been the best I've ever had–not too sweet, near perfect).”

“Curry chicken tartine strikes the perfect balance with French and oriental flavors, and their banana oats with maple syrup never disappoint.”

“They served it in a cute cup and made a design in the cream with syrup.”

  1. Fantastic, fresh coffee.  WAKES YOU RIGHT UP!

Beware: it can get extremely crowded on weekend, especially on a hot, summer day.
    Prepare to wait awhile.

Seating outside is fantastic- right on point.  You can sit outside with a hot cup of Joe and a fresh, French pastry.

    NOM NOM 🙂

  2. I used to think it's just a cafe similar to any other chain lunch spots like Au Bon Pain, Pret, but actually I was completely wrong.
Their tardine, salad, coffee, ice tea… everything was above par, much better than I expected. Very chic, very authentically French in so many ways.
Would definitely come back for a casual lunch/brunch date.

  3. "This server with insanely cool tattoos on his arms is the best server ever."
^ The last sentence of my previous review.

    NOT.

Fast forward a year and a half later, I walked in on a Saturday morning. The place was bustling and seemingly chaotic. A waitress walking by carrying armful of empty plates told us we could sit anywhere, so I nervously went to the back of the room and almost stepped on a baby. But when I realized our server was the same dude from over a year ago I thought we would be in good hands.

But man! Time changed. He must really hate his job now.

Don't expect to get water until you start eating entrees, and if you order a tartine or salad topped with extras or with extras on the side, don't expect to get those either. Everybody working here from manager to waitstaff seems to have anti-personalities. When I tried to redeem a voucher from the app the guy told me initially they don't do it for dine-ins. I explained that I have done it at other LPQ locations he begrudgingly agreed. After he copied the voucher number on his notepad from my phone, he left me his notepad and ran with my phone (my friend lol'ed for a good minute)… What I'm trying to say is, he consistently acted as if his mind was somewhere else.

Food is pretty good, as it always is.

But dude if you're reading this I urge you to stay cool and fun and find your passion again. Whatever the issue is with the management of this LPQ location shouldn't force you to tuck away your awesome personality and positive attitude!!

OK. Obviously what goes on with him has 0 to do with me.. All I can say is I was disappointed with my meal here.

  4. Cool ambiance, communal table where you can seat 30 people?  Our party of 4 was seated on one end of this large wooden table.  We ordered chicken curry tartine, ham and cheese tartine, I had tomato soup and a chicken salad, which lacked flavor and short on dressing. Food was okay, nothing to rave about.

Food is served on these ceramic boards that look like cutting boards.   Coffee is served in a  bowl with no handles (interesting) and the waiter dispensed Splendid like it was precious  ground pepper, sparingly.  Waiter never offered a refill.  But I give it 4 stars for the creativity of dishes, atmosphere and the fact you can hangout and eat without the waiter bothering you.  We also ordered dessert, lemon tart which wasn't too good.  The crust was hard as a rock, couldn't cut it with a knife and an almond tart, which I didn't taste.  I guess this is the French version of Panera Bread, but not as good.  The ambiance is nicer, if not a little haughty, but then again it is French, right?  Prices are a little high for this type of eatery.  I think I spent around $30.

  5. The place is nice very cozy! Very good service and They're friendly. Their latte is really good here. And the mix berries tart was delicious!!

  6. LPQ never fails me. With single digit weather outside, we were desperate for a good cup if hot coffee or hot coco for the kids.  It's a few blocks away from the museum so we walked over.

Luckily no wait for a table – our server was the sweetest and was really patient with our niece and nephew demanding questions.

Pastries and bread tend to run out toward the end of the day.  In general it is a better venue for early morning or brunch.  The hazelnut spread… OMG… Seriously I can just sit there and lick that.  It is so good.  Order either bread or croissant so you can enjoy it or like how I did it.

We also ordered the Belgian waffle for the kids and they enjoyed it tremendously with the hazelnut spread.  The hot coco came basically as hot milk with a side of chocolate syrup.  Apparently that's the Belgian way.  I like it since it wasn't too sweet but the kids had to add sugar.  They were super sugar high after.

My only complain is that they do not what up their pastries.  It is not just this store – it is their policy. The server said that it ruins the way the pastries are cooked.  I would have enjoyed it so much better if I can eat my croissant nice and toasty and let that hazelnut spread melt on top… Just sayin.

I love that the coffee come in a bowl… So rustic and comforting.  They didn't rush us.  We saw a few people just chilling there with their laptop on the communal table.  I wish I can do that more often… Just relax and enjoy your cup of coffee, especially after a hectic day like today.

  7. All of the LPQs around midtown are mediocre in rating, and so I've avoided the Bryant Park one since it's near the lower end of that range. Finally ventured to this one on 72nd since I had to meet my sister somewhere on UWS and felt that it was the most affordable brunch given the setting.
Well, the rumors are true.. The service is not very good, and they definitely need more staff. I had the salmon breakfast and found the toast stale and not toasted enough. The cold brew was not very good either. The only redeeming dish was the avocado toast, which everyone in my party wished they had ordered with maybe a side of protein. So that's my take on it – probably won't return to any of the others in this chain.

  8. A great place to try avocado with chia seeds on bread and a great vegan lentil salad! The waiters are so attentive and kind 🙂
