The Quick: Although this restaurant is known in my family has the best hot chocolate in the world, it's all about the atmosphere.
The Details: Delicious food you feel good about eating with gorgeous Long Wood tables, communal seating, fresh flowers and attractive crowd. Not a dinner/date spot, but perfect for lunch, brunch, a cup of coffee, some bakery goods, or just people watching.
The Damage: Yes it is a bit pricey, but it's the kind of place you'd want to spend the afternoon pondering life and trying to make eye contact with the sexy bearded man across from you. Oh, and the food is great.
I will terrible, terrible dirty things for excellent gazpacho. After riding multiple miles around the city with City Streets, I found myself slurping up gazpacho with the Baker's Lunch. Highly recommend this location, even though the servers are not quite grounded in reality.
Sunday brunch never goes wrong. However, the tartines were missing three important ingredients, the figs, the pear and the honey. Maybe they were disoriented in the kitchen. They should had told the waitress before bringing it to our table because the dish was basically missing half of the stuff mentioned in the menu. Seriously?!???
We are Le Pain lovers, but this time I think it was so creepy. Even though, our waitress did her best to try to accommodate us and gave us replace for the pear and brought strawberries.
I also had, a Croque Monsieur and the soup of the day which was minestrone. They both were amazingly yummy. I will never stop going to Le Pain, but please keep the quality and make me happy. 😉
Spacious European style cafe, delicious dishes (tartines, frittata), pleasant interieur. An oasis to take a rest and a bite!
Yum yum yum! It's a holiday so my friends & I are off from school & work. Perfect! We were looking for a good breakfast spot & we wanted to walk around a bit so we went to the city. Its a bit far from me(Queens) but one of my friends lives near here & goes here often so I didn't mind. The pastries and other baked goods are so pretty and taste great, you can smell them as soon as you walk in! I had a warm melts-in-your-mouth rubus(black raspberry) & strawberry waffle sprinkled with powdered sugar. I also tasted my friends meal which was delicious. I definitely eat here again!
Maybe I just ordered the wrong items, but their organic hazelnut flûte was break-your-molars tough and their parents iced almond latte was very watered down and mediocre. Nice ambience inside though. Slow service.
Fast and fresh food – both with a take-out counter in the front and a seat-yourself area (the long tables are communal – so dont be shy!). Our waitress was no-nonsense and friendly enough, but felt a little rough around the edges (I guess busy time at lunch will do that).
I came with here with a new colleague – she had just a simple green salad and I ordered the veggie quiche with a salad. My salad was delicious and the quiche was perfectly warmed. It was a bit pricey ($13.50) for the amount, but *shrugs* thats NYC for you.
The first time I went to LPQ, I was in Brussels, Belgium. Even though it was a little pricey there too, I remember how fluffy the scrambled eggs were and how fresh the lox was. The service was also super nice and accommodating. I've always had a good opinion of this chain, until now. I wasn't expecting Per Se level execution, but jeez, no one at this place even pays attention to you!
I arrived at 2PM on Sunday. My friend and I sat at the long, communal table as we were studying for exams and didn't want to take up an actual table.
Strike 1: It took our server ages to greet me. When she finally did, she noticed that my part of the table had crumbs on it and offered to wipe it down. It took her 10 minutes to do this. Then it took her another 5-10 minutes to grab me a menu, and another 10 minutes or longer to take my order (first, only a cold beverage). 25-30 minutes to even take an order is really pushing it. Later, I ordered a cappuccino and – same story. First she brought me the wrong menu (even though I said I wanted to see hot coffee drinks, she gave me the cold drink menu only) then it took her over 15 minutes to come back. I would understand this if the place was really busy, but it wasn't.
Strike 2: If it's going to take you ages to take simple orders, at least get it right please. I ordered a large skim cappuccino. A small came out. She told me she'd give me a free refill for the error. Did that come out ever? Nope. I was going to order food but completely gave up as, if making a seltzer mixed with a little lemonade took forever, how long would constructing a sandwich take?
Strike 3: Guess what a lemon seltzer with 10 pomegranate seeds in it and a small coffee cost me? $10.29. Seriously? SERIOUSLY? Not only that, but the pricing is very misleading. My friend ordered an oatmeal which very clearly stated one price on a blackboard, and they charged her over double the price and then blamed her for "misreading" the menu. What? I was on the same page she was. This makes no sense. FYI: the check came out way faster than anything we actually ordered.
Super unwelcoming place. Probably not the vibes this restaurant wants to give off. Each of these issues in isolation is not a huge deal, but all together, they make for a very uncomfortable experience.
