It is nice to find a Haitian restaurant in the City. I love the rice and red beans however they are not lunch friendly. I was hoping they had more meal options to choose from during lunch.
A family owned restaurant.. small but neat and maybe 7-8 tables. They have specials for each day of the week. I was lucky I came on a wed ( i think) and got my fav oxtail dish. The portions are pretty good, I got greedy and ordered extra rice and beans on top of the dinner meal. it was so filling but so good.
It felt like you were eating at a Haitian friend's house. Not too salty, or greasy. I didn't feel bad after the meal even eating a lot. The lady there was nice, she told me it was a family restaurant. Very low key, relaxed.. However, she forgot my soda. Maybe too relaxed? But I was full from the food so I didn't mind not getting the soda.
I'd def come back for more dinner or lunch meals.
I came here for lunch, and it was very tasty. Menu is pretty straightforward and small, but there are enough options for all tastes, including vegetarian.
I got the fried goat ($15), which came with 3 large plantains. I shared a huge platter for rice and beans with my friend, who also got the fried chicken ($12). These proteins are not breaded but definitely have a nice, subtle crispiness. The side gravy was really nice and not too heavy.
The spot was nearly empty at 1pm on a Monday, which was a little surprising. There were more people coming in and grabbing a pre-ordered meal.
It took over 30 minutes to get our food despite it being basically empty. Also, my clothes smelled like the food for hours afterwards, which, while the meal was tasty, was not the best feeling.
