  1. Everything about this place tries to be classy but falls on its face. Typical is the waterfront view that is a poorly mown field covered in geese (and droppings). We came for lunch. I guess the sandwiches are reasonably priced, but you don't get upscale food compared to the descriptions. The lamb sandwich included tough, flavorless meat and an odd pesto type sauce that was jarring. The short rib sandwich managed to turn delicious meat into a disappointing slightly saucy mess. The lobster roll was decent but you could get two better-prepared, meatier lobster rolls for less in Maine. The service was disappointing. I got water with too much ice and had to ask two people three times to get a (half full) glass without ice. Figured it would be overrated, being on the park side, but this is disappointing even if it were priced like an average restaurant. Hold your hunger for the Jersey City side of the harbor.

  2. Great view and ambiance. The food was ok.

I was at Liberty House for the work event. We had upstairs room for the event. The view from the room is magnificent – NYC skyline view can't ever get old. Large windows make the room look even more specious. It's a great place for a wedding or any other big event.

We had 3 stations set up – pasta, turkey and beef craving station and cheese/ cold meats/ hummus station. I haven't tried pasta station, it didn't look very appealing. Beef was just ok cooked. The cheese station was good, but pretty basic.

The appetizers passed around, such as coconut shrimp, stuffed mushrooms, beats in a tiny cone, vegetable spring roll were ok well. Nothing spectacular.

For sit down dinner, we had arugula salad with a light dressing – I was good, light and delicate. The salmon entree was completely dry and tasteless. The side of lemon mashed potatoes was great!

Overall, very average meal. It might be a menu choice by the event planner I attended. But I believe every simple meal can be made tasty and it was not the case here.

Great views though. I would recommend the place for events.

  3. Wonderful time here today. Service deserves 5 stars as our server, Edwin, was wonderful and made us feel right at home.

Food is ok, nothing exceptional, but good all the same. We ordered the oysters which were good, then the lobster roll (pretty good) and the lobster cake (just ok).

Another plus is the surroundings which are lovely gardens and fire pits. We enjoyed the last of our wine outside and had a peaceful time just enjoying the lush scenery.

We will most definitely be back. 🙂

  4. The main attraction here isn't the food, the drinks, or the service. What really makes this place a four star is that magnificent view. In fact, I would have given it a five star hadn't it been for the not so stellar food I ate on my visits.

I truly recommend coming here if you enjoy gorgeous views of the city (the Freedom Tower is basically looming over you) and really nice grounds. Everything is manicured perfectly and there are some nice fire pit tables in their back patio (at night they bring you marshmallows sometimes).

I've tried a Bellini, Moscow mules, long island iced teas, and numerous other drinks here. I really enjoyed the Moscow Mule, get it! The others were decent as well. So thumbs up for the drinks.

What really brings this place down is their food. Although, I do think their fried calamari and goat cheese salad appetizer is very good. All of the appetizers I have eaten that I can recall have been decent or better. Now when it comes to entrees I cannot think of one that I actually enjoyed. For some reason they can never deliver on main dishes. Pasta dishes are never that good, nor are the fish ones, and I just recently had a frittata at brunch that was dry, flavorless and overall poor. In spite of all this, I still give Liberty House a 4 star because of everything else. Maybe next time appetizers and drinks with a view is the way to go.

  5. I came to a wedding here. The location is beautiful, and the downtown Manhattan skyline made for a stunning ceremony backdrop.

The cocktail hour was amazing- I definitely overdid it. I'm glad I did because the buffet dinner was not geared towards vegetarians or gluten-allergies. There was meat, fish, and a pasta station.

The dance floor is technically outdoors but enclosed under a tent and air conditioned. The wedding was lovely.

  6. **Only reviewing the upstairs large party room.

I've been coming to the Liberty House for fives years now for a client's annual Holiday party and I always have a great time. The views are breathtaking as you get a panoramic views of the Lower Manhattan skyline. Beautiful lady liberty is all the way to your right and the One World Trade Center directly in front of you. Although I haven't had a meal at their actual restaurant downstairs, I have tried the catered food, always delicious, and the bartenders are friendly. The outside has fire pits surrounded by chairs for those chilly nights. I recently spotted huge chess pieces on the deck outside though I don't know whether you can actually play them.

Beautiful view for venue purposes. Love coming here.

  7. Come here for the view, that's about it…would never do another private event here as there are far better venues (yes, you can get similar views if you travel down the river towards Grove & Newport areas and far easier to commute for your NYC friends who's taking the PATH) in the Jersey City area.

We had our baby's gender reveal party here and there was nothing impressive about it…

The SERVICE was terrible.  Except for the waiter who actually work the day of the event, he was the ONLY good thing about their service.  The young man was attentive and helpful, quick on his feet and he did a great job doing a sit-down service for 20 pretty much all by himself!!!  He's the only reason they got 2 stars and not 1 for service.

    1.  Their events coordinator, Mara was unresponsive and I practically had to hunt her down to coordinate decorations and cake and menu with her.
    2.  The day of the event, my husband and I swung by earlier to drop off decorations and balloons and their hostesses were completely unhelpful and borderline rude.  We asked them if Mara was around so we can drop off the balloons that she promised someone would help us tie to the chairs (two balloons per chair, not rocket science).  We arrived and asked the hostess if Mara was available and they were like she's not here.  OK, fine, then where do we drop off the balloon?  Um, what do you mean?  I then explain to them our conversation with mara and they were like, um, I don't know about that…
    3.  I thought about leaving the balloon with them but then based on their responses and attitude, my husband and I thought better to just do it ourselves.  We asked them where our party was going to be and they were like, over there…and I'm like, over where!??  It's like you think I was asking them to bend over backwards to give clearer directions.
    4. We asked them to please put our gender reveal cake on a stand of some sort and on display so that when our guests arrive they can marvel at the cake.  My husband and I arrived and noticed that the cake was nowhere in sight.  We then asked them to bring out the cake and they just plopped it on a side table without any stand; it was a beautiful cake but only Liberty House can make it look so sad.

The VENUE is lovely!  I think this is the only reason why they are in business.

The FOOD was plated and it was pretty terrible.  The fresh bread basket and fruits was probably the only good thing about it.  The Chorizo, Asparagus, & Bell Pepper Hash were disgusting and so poorly presented that it looked like some bird poops on the skillet.  My husband's sister was so disgusted with the dish that HE saw the disgust on her face and offered to just switch his dish (Eggs Benedict) with her so that it didn't spoil the mood of the event.  The Poached Eggs, Sweet Potato Chips, Hollandaise Sauce was very average, standard.  The Vanilla Maple French Toast with Warm Berry Compote, Applewood Smoked Bacon was decent, but again, standard and average.  The Eggs Benedict was again just standard and blah.  The white chocolate mousse was again just standard and blah, something I could probably have whipped up from a Jell-O box.

The PRICING was fine for the area and the venue.

  8. Most of my friends and family rely on me to recommend places where they can eat well, be treated well, and have a memorable experience. i'm happy to know that i can add Liberty House to a short list of places where all 3 will be achieved.

i'll keep this short & sweet: The restaurant is clean, the views are impeccable for those who want fine dining with nice pics afterward, and the food is delicious. However, what really shone about my lunch experience there was the waiter Brandon who attended to me, my Mum, and a friend who was on a road trip all the way from Texas. He really is in the top 5 of best waiters i've ever had the pleasure of meeting throughout the world. He was convivial; attentive without being intrusive; genuinely interested in making sure we had a great lunch; went above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied with every aspect of our meal; and his great service didn't stop once we paid. He saw our trio taking pictures near the outside dining area and offered so much help to us.

i've only eaten at Liberty House once, but i'm already looking forward to coming back, hopefully soon.
