I've been going to this bakery for ages. Not because it's the best, or the cleanest, or any reason, really. I'm just a creature of habit. That being said, I can attest that their buns and drinks are pretty standard. This time around, I got their Indian Mango cake for a friend's birthday. This cake is AWESOME when it's fresh. Less awesome when it's not. Try to call in and order this cake beforehand, so you're not like me–waiting last minute, then getting a day old cake from the window.

The portuguese egg tarts are what it's known for. I got half a dozen to go. It's great when it comes right out of the oven. I wasn't a fan of the crust, but really digging the eggy custard. It wasn't as caramelized as I would like, but still one of the best in Bensonhurst.

The ladies there speak Canto, which is great. They were really nice.

I got 2 other buns and they were just ok. Too much bread and too little toppings. Felt like I was eating mostly bun.

I also got an oolong with milk foam (everybody's copying Gong Cha now?) and it was too sweet. Next time I'll know to tell them not to put sugar in it.

I like that it's bright and clean inside.

Found this bakery through yelp while i was in the area and im so glad i did.

Tried a few things , dried pork bun , egg custard tarts , coconut bun cake or something like that and a sweet bun and they were all very good. The egg custard tart is a MUST , so creamy and not too sweet , It was perfect !

Cant wait to try their other baked goods and drinks because i was very pleased with the ones i listed above !

Very clean establishment and the staff was very friendly and smiles all around , most of the products look like its a self service type of deal BUT do not try to grab them yourself because the staff rush over with gloves and grab and bag them for you !

I'll def be back , great prices and great eats = happy me. As i was paying and about to leave the woman smiled and said "thank you for visiting and hope to see you again" which is very nice to hear as a customer.

Keep up the great work and see ya soon !!

This is probably one of the more appealing bakeries along on 86th street because it's bright, clean, and also serve items that are slightly different and fancier from most Chinese bakeries on 86th street.

I've tried the Portuguese tarts here before and honestly, not a huge fan of it. I prefer my don tots to be sweet and have a buttery crust. I've also tried their Yin Yang and it's pretty darn good. As for the buns and dim sum I haven't tried it yet.

Overall, out of all the bakeries in Bensonhurst and 86th street – Lily Bloom Bakery is probably the most expensive mostly because of the type of food and products they have. This isn't my favorite bakery on 86th street, but it's definitely worth coming to for different items that aren't available at other Chinese bakeries such as macarons, lattes, and etc.

Portuguese egg tart: Pretty good, pret-tay gewd. Silky smooth custard paired with an oily crust, noice! However, there's something that sticks out that reminds me of a cheesecake and its cream cheese flavor, not sure if I'm fond of that in my egg tart…

Taro flaky ball: I have no other words to describe this item other than what it is. But I'd like to note that it is indeed quite a delectable ball. Quite!

Next up? It all boils down to this… Drinks!

The feel when you travel all the way to 8th ave for their Portuguese tarts and then you find them readily available a few blocks away from home… my life is complete! With this bakery's close proximity, I've tried a few of their baked goods and their coffee. Even my dad finds this Chinese bakery's coffee one of the best in the Bensonhurst area along with King bakery. I always like to go in and browse because they have legit (& by legit I mean like it looks like a Parisian man with a curly mustache baked it behind the scene) desserts, a seasonal pumpkin latte that I have yet to try, and baked goods that speak to my Asian palate. ie. matcha and red bean flavored goods.

Although their Portuguese tarts can't beat the original location's, their tarts are still a solid 10/10 as well.

My first time having their Portuguese Tarts was actually a little less than two weeks ago. My friend V.H. waited 25 minutes for these bad boys to freshly come out of the oven, and bought 2 dozens to snack on during our hiking trip that morning (no we did not have a whole dozen each, it was split among 6 people, ha ha). Let me tell you, they were still piping hot. Guys, it is totally worth the wait, if you have the time, of course.

Their tarts were so decadent that I've been craving it since. That creamy eggy filling filled in a little thin crust is totally the way to go. Well guess what? I'm back today, only thing was, last one for the day. YES! I travelled all the way over here just to get my hands on some (just 1 left, better come earlier next time) and on the way pick up a cake for my dad's birthday dinner tonight. Let's see how that goes.

Update: I bought a 10' Coconut Lime Cake. The mousse was very light, creamy, and best of all, it wasn't overly sweet. The only thing was, we had trouble separating the slices with the plastic cake knife they provided. Under the mousse was a 1' layer of coconut cookie, great flavors with specs of coconut, just hard to get.

My boyfriend went on a mission run here from Queens to BK for some portuguese egg tarts for my forgiveness. He did earn it, but sadly, these did not live up to the hype. I've been missing the ones I've had in Spain, and although that is an unfairly high standard, these were just good. The tarts were good and eggy, but not portuguese-y if you get what I'm saying. The hunt for some real ones continue…
