Really great seafood and the portion sizes are large!
I came here recently with a party of five and the accommodated us easily in the back next to the water. Awesome views of the bay and sunset. The waiter was prompt and service was great. Though they did give me the wrong order, it was okay cause I still ate it lol. Make sure you speak clearly when ordering.
The shrimp kabob dish is good! The shrimps are huge and juicy. Also the Royal dorado char grilled fish is good as well. They give you choices to have a whole fish or fillet, also if you want it pan grilled or char grilled. We also got the St.peters fish which is their specialty. That fish was so good and portions also large.
Overall It's a bit pricey but worth it because the view, service and food quality is exceptional.
Liman is one of the top Turkish restaurants in the area. It is up there with Taci's Betyi. I found the quality to be on a similar level as Taci's, but found Liman to be pricier. Liman also specializes in Seafood and has a waterfront view overlooking Sheepshead Bay and Manhattan Beach.
I recommend the Shepheard's salad as an appetizer. It's a little peppery, yet very delicious and flavorful. I made sure to dip bread in the salad's juices. I also liked the tarama and hummus spreads. I found the stuffed mussels as well as the fried mussels to be interesting ways of serving mussels. I think they're worthwhile to try if you haven't tried mussels prepared like this.
For the main course, I tried an open faced fish, shrimp skewers, and lamb chops. I heard the St. Peter's fish is very good, but I was too full from the appetizers to order an entree for myself. The entree portions are quite large and are shareable.
The desserts are all good to. I liked the baklava, the kunefe, one of the puddings, and the mousse. The baklava had slight apricot flavor to it. I think it was a flavored honey which gave it this flavor.
The service came in rounds. When the waiters were around our table, they were helpful and attentive; however, there were stretches of time when no waitstaff was around to replenish bread or refill drinks.
FABULOUS fish, salads, appetizers, service & atmosphere. 5 stars for this FANTASTIC place. A gem in Sheepshead Bay & in Brooklyn!
Four of us shared a Turkish chopped salad and an unusually delicious roasted eggplant appetizer to start our meal. Both were really great; I especially enjoyed the chopped salad, which was bursting with flavor (and full of cheese and oil).
We all decided to get fish for our main courses. I chose the pan-friend mullet: there were five small fish and a small green salad on my plate but no rice or vegetables. (I was surprised and a bit disappointed by their absence.) The fish were tasty, but the small size meant that I had to work hard to remove bones of each fish in exchange for a relatively tiny reward. I tasted a companion's shrimp kabob — the shrimp were grilled and were quite good, and they were served with rice and a salad. I also snagged a taste of the St. Peter's fish, which I did not find to be exceptional.
The beer choices were abysmal (Bud, Bud lite,…), but there were some interesting-looking wines, the majority from Turkey. I had a glass of a Turkish sauvignon blanc and found that it went well with all the food.
Parking in the area is essentially non-existent. Valet parking (available only on weekends) is the only rational course of action.
The table service struck me as a strong point. Lots of people were running around to pour water, bus plates, deliver food or help out. Our waiter deboned the St. Peter's fish for one of us — it was a lot of work.
This restaurant is an order of magnitude better than Efes in Princeton, NJ, another Turkish restaurant to which I awarded four stars. Nonetheless, I consider the ratings to be correct — it's all about the context. I went to Efes three times over a two-week period; I look forward to my next visit to Liman.
Liman is a precious and luminous secret on the coast of Brooklyn, far removed from "hipster hot spots".
Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I could be sitting in BROOKLYN – on an outdoor deck with a feel and view that was reminiscent of Istanbul – fresh and windy breezes, overlooking a body of water with boats (No need to differentiate between Sheepshead Bay and the Bosphorus), and the chance to practice my broken Turkish.
We were there after a day of biking and beaching (Manhattan Beach) and wanted something fresh and **light** before the hour bike ride home.
We ordered three items and they were perfect for sitting outside on a hot day.
1) The Ezme salad was light and fresh.
2) The cubed potatoes were great, but the garlic sauce that they put on top was unbelievable (Note: Our server recommended this, the garlic sauce does not usually accompany these potatoes).
3) The St. Peter's Fish was fresh and excellent. We ordered *one* entree – fillet style and grilled (at the server's recommendation). The portion was huge and our server split the fish into two plates.
Note: For the oenephiles, their wines are all imported from Turkey.
Tip: I highly recommended sharing entrees – we noticed that the surrounding tables were asking for doggy bags due to the large portions. We, on the other hand, licked our plates clean.
Tesekkurler Liman!
I couldn't wait to write a review about this place, its restaurants like these that are capable of bringing great people together paired with excellent food and service. Emmons avenue wouldn't be the same without Liman.
Pro's:
we were able to get a large table for just a party of three in less than 20 minutes with no reservation[although they ask upfront if you have one]
the waiter that we got was very knowledgeable about each item on the menu and was able to give me great recommendations since I am not a large seafood fan, he was charming friendly and knew a lot about the extensive wine menu and cocktail menu, each glass ranged from 9 dollars and up depending on the brand of wine
They actually chill the wines, some places don't even bother!
The salads that they offered were plentiful, from vegetable salads to seafood salads, it was hard to choose, but we had the shepherd salad , it was huge with fresh feta cheese on top, it was large enough to split amongst three, the seasoning they added was so good that we almost licked the plate clean
The fried calamari was to die for, it wasn't some thin scrawny pieces, it was fresh large pieces with tartar sauce instead of marinara sauce, that was probably my favorite dish, I like how the breading didn't fall off and was not too oily
The chicken shish kebab dish was on point, the pieces were huge and were not charred or burned, it was juicy with lots of flavor, the rice was very light and not over seasoned and the potatoes that they gave were yummy
My friends were big fans of the flounder, it was soft and easy to cut, and underneath the flounder was sautéed mushrooms with potatoes and a garlicky touch, not too much oil too which was a plus
The presentation for every single dish was my favorite , from the garnishing to the seasoning and spices, I drooled.
Each appetizer was good in terms of prices, 14-20 for salad or hot / cold appetizers
The entrees were 21 dollars and up, seafood cost a bit more than the meats, but its a seafood restaurant so they use fresh fish , so you get what you pay for
The décor of the place itself is very nice, nice murals and painting on the wall like you are out on a bay/dock, the place was bright it gave it a warm feel
The velvet carpet was nice too, made it very upscale and classy
There is also outdoor seating, like a patio, perfect for the summer, not as many tables though compared to inside
Cons:
I only have one con, and that is the bathroom. There is only one stall per sex, and there was a diaper changing station within the stall, usually the stations are separate
Would I come back here? 1000 percent, the quality of this food is unbeatable, this place is suitable for all ages, families, friends, and I would even suggest corporate events here too.
Didn't get to sit outside so the inside decor really needs an update however the food is always right.
If you are interested in fresh fish grilled to perfection, this is the spot. Always tasty flavorful and fresh.
The appetizers are typical Mediterranean, we got the hummus, calamari, octopus and feta salad.
For mains we split the st.peter's fish, Bronzino fish and the grilled meat platter.
The best dessert is the fried cheese in philo-dough
I came to this restaurant because I was really in the mood for seafood and because of the four star rating.
The restaurant is clean and staff is friendly. I had the octopus salad as an appetizer which I really enjoyed. It had tons of flavor and was seasoned nicely. For the main course I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass. Every time I ordered this at other restaurants it was delicious. So I figured, hey if it ain't broke why fix it? My wife decided to order the same.
While the plate was presented nicely, it lacked a lot of flavor. I was really disappointed after seeing the 4 stars this place contained on yelp. For dessert I ordered the baklava. I took one bite and instantly caught type a diabetes. It was so sweet, a pancreatic transplant was the only cure for the sugar rush.
The check came out to a little over $100 for it all. Normally I don't care about spending $100 on food. But I don't feel like this food is worth the price. I won't be returning to an expensive restaurant that serves mediocre food.
