  1. This place is nothing to write home about; yet here I am writing on Yelp. There are so many restaurants that are better in this general vicinity. Dear Tourists, this is not what mexican food is supposed to be like. I'm even more baffled as to why there is a 2nd location a few blocks north.

  2. It's hard to find good mexican in NYC (why oh why is that the case?), but still – you should really only come here out of desperation. It's more on the Tex-Mex side of things and is one of the only places in the city where I have seen queso on the menu.

The guacamole was so-so, blended completely smooth. Chips were decent – yellow corn, a little bit thick, not very salty. The cheese in the fried empanada was completely bland. Just strange and thick and stretchy and no flavor what so ever.

The day we went they were not serving alcohol, which seemed weird. Very small inside, but was not crowded for an earlyish dinner on a Sunday.

Overall if you are walking by and really jonesin for a fix, you could stop in. I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to eat here.

  3. I know, quick update, but a few hours after this meal, a few of us did not feel well. Something about the food just wasn't sitting well with any of us and we all either had headaches, stomach aches, were bloated or just felt off.

Not sure if we just ate way too much or if it was the food, but either way, I'm a little skeptical now….

  4. I came here for happy hour.  They have margarita specials at HH so I thought I would give it a shot.  2 for 1 was the deal.  We also got chips and guacamole.  It was all very meh.  The margs were premixed and very sugary.  The chips and guac were not that great.  The guac did not taste that fresh.

For positives, the service was good and the bartender was very friendly.

  5. My friend and I had to eat here, because the other brunch place was packed.  Cute place, very small.  I had the yogurt and fruit plate….delish and my friend had an egg dish, she too was happy with it.  My only Gripe….NO Coffee?  How can a brunch place have no coffee???????  Plenty of alcohol, but one must balance 🙂

  6. I will always love the nachos here.  Even though they aren't a traditional plate of nachos, the 4 large tortilla triangles topped with cheese, beans and jalapenos are delicious.  Seriously, these nachos are so good I could eat 10 servings!

The veg burrito filled with rice, cheese, onions & peppers is ok…nothing too spectacular but not bad at all.

The green hot sauce is pretty good and the dark red one packs a little punch!  Try mixing them together…YUM.

I think I prefer the old Lime Jungle though (the smaller one a few blocks up).  This one is bigger and much "fancier" than the old hole-in-the-wall.

  7. I'm surprised. This place was awesome for happy hour. Great hard liquor happy hour specials. I had two mojitos that were very strong and a great sangria drink with one empanada made of fish. This cost me like 15 bucks plus tip. The ambiance was cool. The place was not crowded at all for a Thursday night and our bartender Eric was chill and friendly. Another server was nice and charged my phone near the other counter.  I would totally recommend this place for happy hour. I didn't eat any dinner or food at this place so I can't review the restaurant. But, it was great for cheap fancy drinks at a cool locale.

The empanada did take 30 minutes to arrive, so maybe the food service is slow, so come here for strong, tasty happy hour drinks!

  8. I've been to Lime Jungle twice now, and I don't get the negative reviews for this place. The food is quite tasty, the atmosphere is casual but inviting, and the service is adequate… and, as many of the other Yelp! reviewers point out, the prices are inexpensive! I mean, I don't generally go out looking for a Masa or a Le Bernardin… I'm more of casual meal type of guy, and Lime Jungle fits that mold perfectly.

Over my two visits to Lime Jungle, I've tried the tacos, the nachos, the fajitas, the guacamole, and the margaritas. All were exceptional, and I'd order any of them again. Sure, they're not traditional Mexican style and closer to Tex-Mex, but I'm a fan of Tex-Mex, so that doesn't bother me. Plus, Lime Jungle has a salsa bar for "fixing up" your meal….how cool is that?!?! At the back of the restaurant, they've built a kiosk where they feature several different salas (some tomato and some tomatillo based) that are yours for the taking! Nom!!! They range from mild to hot, and all are delicious. As for the margaritas, I'm usually a fan of the traditional kind on the rocks, but Lime Jungle has an awesome frozen one with that they swirl with sangria! Try it; it's soooo awesome!
