Never seem to walk into this place mostly since it's right next to one of my favorite restaurants (Georgios). Barely anyone inside on a Saturday morning despite a generous brunch deal.
For starters, shared the "Extreme" Fajita Nachos ($11) – basically chicken quesadillas with cheese and peppers on the outside. Not bad, but wouldn't refer to them as fajitas nor nachos, and definitely not extreme. Main course: Half-Yucatan Chicken ($8), a well roasted bird that had a flavorful skin and tender meat. Went well with the plethora of hot sauces they have to the corner.
While going through all of that, had ordered the AYCD special ($10) – unlimited bellinis, mimosas, lime margaritas and such. Not a bad deal at all for the price, even though the drinks aren't that strong
Service here is up and down. Guy who took our order almost gave us the wrong dish but we corrected him because we weren't sure he got it right. The lady server kept checking her phone rather than seeing if we needed refills (she gave me the wrong drink once). Food came out fast though. As far as Mexican joints go, this place is run of the mill for the area.
Less than impressed with Limon Jungle. Arrived here on a sunday for brunch. They offer a $9.95 mimosa/margarita/champagne deal for up to 90 minutes. The drinks are very small. The salsa is more of a pico than an actual salsa. The veggie empanadas were delicious. I ordered the fajta burrito and was very disappointed. My fajita contained all shredded chicken that wasn't even seasoned and a few peppers. I would not recommend the fajita burrito. Service was good. I will have to try something different next time.
I always passed this place on my way to Empanada Mama (best empanadas ever), which recently burned down (so bummed). A few days ago, I was walking towards Empanada Mama, completely forgetting that it was no more. I was weak from hunger at only 12PM and my stomach would settle for no less than a Viagra. You know, that delicious seafood filled Empanada from Empanada Mama of course.
I was 2 blocks away when I realized my error. Luckily (or so I thought at the moment) I saw Limon Jungle. It was in the same category, food wise. I looked at the menu and did a mental fist bump when I realized that this place had empanadas. And the best part, these were from Empanada Mama (so they claimed). Felt like the best day ever.
Beware, there are two entrances. One is to the bar and the other to the restaurant. Use the entrance closest to 53rd for the restaurant.
I go in to place an order. It's not super crowded and the 2 staff in there had their backs to me. So I hovered, waiting for someone to turn around. One waitress finally notices me. I tell her that I want to place an order. She responds as she walks right past me. I'm not sure what she said, and I'm wondering if she actually heard or saw me. She walks past me again and asked if I knew what I wanted. So I guess she did hear me. I asked for a menu. The empanada prices on the in-house menu differ than the one posted on the website and outside. A little annoying but it is what it is. I get the Viagra, peril and beef.
Once I started to eat these, I realized that the empanada's were not made to order. I think they must have re-fried my stuff. Or maybe they over fried it. The stuffing in the Viagra was also over cooked. Almost mushy. The peril was fine. And the beef empanada was clearly not beef. I think it was chicken and potatoes. Also, unlike the others, this one was not made with dough but instead, cornmeal. It was actually delicious and better than the others, but still, not what I ordered.
I spent $12 and was disappointed. Despite this, and the crappy service, I kind of want to return for another "beef" empanada. But I won't.
I came here one night with a group of friends and had a great time. The bartender was nice, and I ordered a blackberry mojito (they have a ton of fruity flavors which were delicious). The bar seating area is a little narrow, so I can imagine it'd get a little cramp if more people came in.
We were all so sad when Empanada Mama burned to its demise, but Limon Jungle has been an amazing shoulder to cry on. By that I mean, they offer the empanadas you're craving!
They have a pretty great brunch offering, too. $10 entrees + $10 unlimited (max 90 mins) of select beverages. The standard drink menu is pretty reasonable too; my friend Dan & I grabbed the $6 sangrias. Although they were a bit on the small side, they were tasty.
The brunch menu offered a great variety, but I couldn't make up my mind in time to make a selection. So I opted for some a la carte empanadas. The Viagra (seafood), mozzarella, & apple cinnamon were all kinds of heaven.
Just one tip: It will take you FOR.EV.ER. to get your check – 35 minutes for Dan & I – so make sure to flag down the waitress and ask.
Otherwise, YES!
3.5 stars.
Simple but welcoming decor… a good place for brunch.
Great deal for bottomless brunch: $9.95 for unlimited mimosa, Bloody Mary, Bellini, etc. 90 minutes limit.
The burritos are ok and so is the guacamole.
Service is professional and efficient. I could totally go back.
Came here a few weeks ago after attending a concert on the Hudson River (which was awesome). My buddy and I were hungry and wanted something cheap and tasty, nothing fancy.
Enter Limon Jungle. I remember this being Lime Jungle during my high school and college days, but I never had actually been inside. We were lured in by the host, who seemed friendly enough. The staff overall was great.
But the real draw here? Those margaritas!! Cheap, strong, and tasty, they were certainly memorable. The food was decent, not too greasy. It's more tex-mex, at least I would think so. I still hold on to New Rochelle for my Mexican fix :]
Brotip: The bathroom is down a steep set of stairs. Be careful!
Came here when El Centro was packed on a Saturday night and it turned out to be a good decision! I got the East LA burrito and the boyfriend and I shared a Skinny Margarita. The margarita is surprisingly strong and tastes much lighter (but still sweet) than a regular one. The burrito was good, but dripped a lot so make sure you stay over the plate as you eat it! This is a fresh Mex place so everything is fairly healthy, some dishes more than others. It's a great option for those who are health conscious or those just looking for a good meal! It has a good balance of everything. Service was good, and it wasn't too crowded on a Saturday night so that's always a plus.
