The best part of this establishment is the super friendly staff. The owner/cook, the waitresses and everyone else were very inviting and made sure to check in on us periodically. My friend recommended the calamari and the mixed grill to try out. The calamari and dipping sauce were amazing. The mixed grill (combination of 4 kinds of meats, white rice, lettuce, shaved carrots, cabbage, etc), though a bit pricey, can feed 2 people with no problem. The hospitality and the great tasting food made my experience at Lisa's very enjoyable.
Looking for a casual and healthy Mediterranean restaurant for lunch one day and found this gem in Ridgewood, NJ. Lisa's Mediterranean Cuisine is a family run business that captures the essence and beauty of Turkey and Greece in their food preparation without compromising with American "cliches". The servers are very helpful and accommodating and are more than willing describe what the dishes are and how they're prepared. In fact – their mother is the chef at this amazing restaurant – so the tradition lives on. Thank you for cutting some fresh veggies for me and thank you for sharing your family culinary traditions with me.
PS: let me know when you get octopus on your menu. Yums!!!!!
First time at this new location… it has a much nicer ambiance. It's cosier and much more inviting. The food is still fantastic, if not better. We were a party of 11 and our meals came out almost all at the same time. We started with the meze platter and to say it was amazing would be an understatement. There were so many different types of hummus and other spreads and little bites which I could not identify, but all I know is that each and every one was just absolutely delicious. I had the Branzini for my main and it was very fresh and grilled to perfection. All my dinner companions really enjoyed their meals as well. The portion sizes were large but not ridiculously so but many of us had to take our dinners home because we filled up on the meze and the "to die for" Turkish bread. Unfortunately this also meant that we were too full for dessert 🙁 . Next time I will definitely pace myself because the desserts looked so good and it was torture having to say no.The service was great, our waiter was very patient with 11 women all talking at the same time and bombarding him with questions. Will be planning another visit there soon.
Came here only because Kailash was closed.
Place was empty – busboy/server (I'm not too sure what he job was) kept trying to look down my friends shirt as he was opening our wine.
Anyway……
We ordered the hummus. Really was tasteless – it came with a thick bread instead of pita.
I ordered the gyro entree. When it came out, it was scraps of well done, hard meat with some rice on the center. No yoghurt sauce. I started to eat some and realized it was so salty it teetered on inedible. We did eventually flag down the peeping tom and requested the sauce. It didn't do anything to balance the salt.
I can say with certainty that I won't be back.
I'd add a tip but I don't see the menu for that on non-mobile.
Will make a bigger review later, food was delicious and the service was better than expected.
It was a whole lot better than last time.
We love this place!!
The hubby and I have been here twice now in the past few weeks, and are just delighted. It's a quaint, comfy, family-run restaurant with good service and excellent food. BYOB, lots of liquor stores around if you're so inclined.
Your meal will start off with spongy and perfect Turkish bread that is served with a tomato sauce/oil with just a hint of spice – delicious.
Gyro, chicken shish, and chicken adana have all been outstanding. All the meats are paired with forgettable shaved carrots and salad, good white rice with chickpeas, and an awesome, almost candied pickled red cabbage that I cannot get enough of. You can combine any of the meats together if you can't make up your mind.
However, nothing has compared to the spinach pie appetizer and kazandibi dessert. I can't get enough of either dish.
The spinach pie is something of a hybrid between the traditional spinach pie and a lovely eggy quiche. It is easily big enough to share, or to have as lunch with just the bread or a dip as an accompaniment.
The kazandibi (which, to be fair, i have never had elsewhere) is a custardy combo of rice pudding and flan that I want to bathe in. Heavily dusted in cinnamon, it is a smooth and heavenly way to end the meal.
Prices are more than fair and the portions are generous. We can't wait to go back!
This is great addition to Ridgewood who previously had only Mediterranean and Indian food. Having Turkish food brings all the well loved flavors together. My favorite appetite here is the Turkish cigars–they're flaky, the cheese is sweet and salty and creamy all at once, and they're delicious. I could eat dozens of these.
They bring pretty good bread too with a sweet and spicy dipping sauce when you'd sit down. The gyro meat is outstanding and sliced so thinly you could eat a lot of it without feeling uncomfortable. I also enjoy their Turkish coffee which they put in a beautiful small mug for you.
The service is excellent, staff are friendly, and it has a romantic ambience with beautiful Turkish decor. I enjoy coming here and have had consistently good experiences.
I had eaten here once before, prior to the change in location, and had liked the food. Recently, I had friends visiting from out of town & they wanted to have Turkish food, so we decided to stay local in NJ instead of heading to NYC and I brought them here for dinner.
BYOB – nice casual ambiance. Good – friendly service.
The Sigara Boregi (Cigar Pie) is an all time fave of mine so I always get that. One of my friends just got calamari as her main dish & two of us got the Beyti kabab. They were good but I typically I am not so keen on Chicken dishes so wasn't too thrilled with my choice. However the gyro that I ate previously was good.
