  1. This place has a real new brooklyn vibe which means it's relaxed in a somewhat self-conscious way. The servers chat with each other about their latest artistic and theatrical endeavors , exuding a kind of casual cool that makes me a little nervous. There are moms with a lot of tattoos dining. As for the food, I only had a couple of their Korean fusion tacos, but these were overpriced and each featured the tiniest amount of meat. They sort of had the right Korean marinade  but the overall taste was a little off. Amongst all the rave reviews about the food here I don't see any Korean people and I think the people raving have probably not tasted the real thing.

  2. Was the best Korean Fried Chicken I have ever had.  The wings had the perfect amount of crunch and coating, and my dining companion said, "they are just a little too spicy, which is perfect."  I agreed.  I also liked the decor.  It was a cool place.

I didn't love the kimchi stew, but that may have been a matter of preference.

When the bill came, I was surprised at how little it cost actually, which is always nice, and certainly factors into my review!

    Oh, good banchan too.

  3. Best Korean food I've ever had? Probably not, but pretty damn good and overall this place gets most things right.

I like that menu has a smattering of classic Korean options and it's got hipsterified tacos for the less adventurous. Scallion pancake surprisingly worthwhile. The wings are damn good. Drink menu is diverse but succinct. Doesn't skimp on the complimentary Banchan dishes.

Kind of hidden in north Greenpoint but the ambiance is really intimate and cute.

It would be nice if they took reservations, employed a landline and took plastic but if it's worth sucking all that up again and again that's got to be saying something. Just go on an off-time or you will be waiting.

***Addendum–they used to have mini-anchovies including in their Banchan. Bring these back they were awesome!

  4. We came here on a March night, and sat outside (they apparently are always crowded).

It turned frigid rather quickly, and they very kindly brought us some hot tea.

We got the Korean BBQ Chicken wings – half spicy, half not so spicy – and the scalion pancakes. We devoured all of it (including some hot sake, which went down very smoothly).

Apparently the spicy wings are supposed to be ridiculously spicy, but to me, they were just tasty (but I appreciate the effort).

  5. Yay! The long awaited little Dokebi is open!

The restaurant itself is gorgeous inside and you can tell a lot of care was taken in it's design. It is cozy/romantic/casual/impressive/unpretentious all at the same time. It is a great place for a date, (adult) family in town or a night out with friends.

The Korean Fried Chicken is great and crispy. Mmmm… and the bi bim bap – I have tried a few places in Korea town and Dokebi is definitely better.

Little Dokebi is a unique and  welcome addition to the neighborhood!

  6. Little Dokebi is a teeny tiny Korean-inspired restaurant in Greenpoint. As we walked up to it my friend noted it looked like an English pub. When we went inside (sat at the bar as there were only two of us) the decor had some Asian influence but felt like the Midwest. Add that to the playlist that blasted country-western through the entirety of our meal and you've got a pretty good mix going on here.

With that said, I did not go into this expecting real Korean food. I commend the taco choices and the funky brunch menu. I really wanted to love my food especially given the positive response on here. Unfortunately, it was only ok. My kalbi taco was good, although it had perhaps a spoonful of finely chopped meat. The flavor of the marinade was pretty good but nothing out of the ordinary. The pork shoulder taco was a major disappointment, the pork was severely overcooked. My friend enjoyed her kimchee/rice egg burrito thing, though! And I enjoyed my kimchee "michelada" as something different to drink. We did get some KFC (spicy) as a side and it was also good. It wasn't as crispy as I am used to my double-fried Korean chicken being but the flavor had the signature slow burn and sweet notes.

The service was super slow, it appears to be cooks and one person serving/tending bar. She was sweet but it seemed like things would slip her mind and task/table prioritization was a little off. Definitely skip this place if you're in a hurry or have a short temper, but good if you just want to relax and take your time. Also worth noting – there were soo many kids in here. I don't mind children and I love when people continue to live their lives post-kid (and when establishments aren't jerks about bringing kids in), but it resulted in a VERY loud meal where we could hardly hear each other speak. So, good if you want to bring your kid or someone you don't like listening to – bad for an intimate brunch date.

All in all, if I lived in the neighborhood I would eat there, drink there, or get wings for takeout (as we saw a few neighborhood dudes doing) but I don't think I'd go out of the way to eat here again.

  7. This place is so much fun. It's a little weird too, a little hipster vibe, beautiful dark interior, with a no-frills Korean fusionish menu.

The inside is decorated wonderfully. And even from the outside you might not think it's a Korean place at all. Actually, now that I think of it, no one that works there is Asian.

The food is pretty good. I would give it a 4/5. I've had a ton of Korean/mexican fusion food in California and New York, but this was just 'pretty good'. I wouldn't say it's a must, even the KFC was 'pretty good', but again nothing to write home about. The spicy pork burrito was great! And I tried the kimchi pancake which is always on point. The banchan was pretty good. I liked that they served the fried fishies even in hipstertown Greenpoit.

Really what did it for me, was the nice service and watermelon soju. If you love watermelon, this is it folks. Best drink ever.

Also, don't be in a rush, the kitchen is a little slow (because it's small and it's probably manned by 1-2 people at any time).
