This place is not the best for vegetarians. I got a salmon dish and it was ok. They have some awesome fries though, and a great spicy bloody mary. Also an interesting french onion burger which I liked b/c I had no expectations but my burger loving friends thought it was just ok. It's small and crowded and French and a bit snobby, and way loud – hard to hear everyone, even if we didn't have the raucous shrieky bday party next to us.
What a cute little bougie place! This is great if you're going on a date to impress. The small plates are perfectly portioned for sharing and it's pricey, so it could show your date what you're made of (money). Or if you're single, come with your girlfriends. That's what I did and I still had a blast.
The cocktails are SUPER strong. One drink (Witches something…) got me pretty tipsy. So that's another great feature for a date: a little alcohol to loosen up the lips. I came in a group of 12 and the waiter was extremely accommodating to our big party. He remembered all of our drinks without writing them down and recommended some delicious plates for us to share. The ones that stood out were the fries and chicken with farro. There was actually a lot of chicken to go around and it was done so well. Flavorful, moist, melt-in-your-mouth type of chicken.
One dish I don't recommend is the veggie platter. It's appealing to the eye, but it's a bunch of raw veggies on a wooden board. It just didn't feel right for the amount of money that went into buying that.
I would definitely come back for more large plates hopefully.
When my mom was visiting recently, we made reservations at Little Prince for Saturday night at 7:30. When we go there it wasn't too busy, but it filled up quickly. Everything was phenomenal, from the service to the food. Our waiter gave us plenty of time to look at the menu and never interrupted our conversations, and we appreciated that as there was a lot of catching up for us to do!
As for the food, we were really impressed. We ordered the roasted cauliflower, duck fat roasted brussels sprouts, little gem salad, ratatouille, and steak frites. My favorites were the cauliflower and ratatouille, but every dish was delicious. I'm so excited to have found this little jewel in Soho. Though I came here with my mother, it would be the perfect place for a date or dinner with a small group of friends.
Came here on a Sunday evening w a friend for dinner. Cute little place!
I ordered the mussels and roasted beets and my friend ordered the salmon. He wasn't too hungry but his salmon was good, the roasted beets were delicious and the mussels were decent but nothing to write home about.
Overall, a decent meal!
The Quick: Solid 3.5 French spot. Extremely cute and charming spot in a neighborhood that I j'adore. The food was good but not great and the drinks are very pricey.
The Details: This adorable spot on Prince Street has a great vibe, great music, and solid waitstaff. The steak tartare was very tasty, as was the octopus. The Brussel sprouts cooked in duck fat were very mediocre, as was the tuna tartare. The drinks were very pricey as well, so overall not sure this spot is worth it. Our waiter was great, and the spot is very romantic and casual, so I can see the appeal. Basically, definition 3.5 stars for me.
The Damage: $130 before tip for 3 drinks total and appetizers for 2
Many places serve burgers and I have had burgers at many places in the city.
So the statement I am going to make about the french onion burger I had at Little Prince holds a lot of weight (in my book) –
It was pretty darn perfect.
The fries were medium sized (not huge wedges and not shoe string) and they were the perfect level of crispiness.
And then there was THE BURGER. I don't prefer cold things on my burgers like tomatoes and lettuce so one thing I loved about this burger was that warm belted cheese and onions on it.
I was a little hesitant about the english muffin buns, but they were spongy and perfect.
All in all it was the perfect size and tasted amazing and made the rest of my afternoon happy. The restaurant was also cute and the server was nice.
The little prince is my all time favorite book so
It was only fitting that I had to try this place out. Especially since I worked two blocks away, I just had too. And I did. Three times.
If I had written this review after my first visit, I would've given them 5stars. Our waiter was wonderful, had great suggestions, was extremely helpful and made our night remarkable.
1st visit. Me and my best friend came in. The place is beautiful. In and out. We were quickly seated as it was not busy at all (late night) we started with the ricotta app, a wine and a beer. Oh, it was absolutely delicious. Wonderful. My friend ended up ordering the French onion burger and I ended up with the duck confit that had on menu at he time. We ask got the Mexican corn and brussel sprouts. Everything was absolutely amazing, mouthwatering, so good I wanted to lick my plate clean. At this time, we thought we finally found the spot. The spot for us to have our bff dinners at and it was magical. $100 and full fed tummies later, we left more than happy. Great time.
2nd visit. I came back about 2-3weeks after with my girlfriend. Again, we got the ricotta app, very good. I opted for the onion burger this time since I enjoyed my friends the last and my girlfriend got the steak frites. The food was mediocre at best this time around. My burger tasted a bit different and I wasn't enjoying it as much. I figured it was because it was very busy this time (fully packed) so I didn't think much of it. About Another $100 later, this time I was just satisfied. About disappointed actually being that it was gf I brought here this time instead of my best friend lol.
3rd visit. Usually, third times a charm huh? Not in this case. Not a horrible time but definitely not he best. My best friend decided to surprise me and bring me here for my birthday. Again, that ricotta is so delicious we couldn't not get it. This app seems to never disappoint. We've always wanted to try the gnocchi so she ended up getting it, eh I definitely wasn't a fan. A bit to overpowering for my taste. She seemed to agree. The duck on menu was changed from my first visit and so I ordered it to try. It was … Alright but absolutely nothing like the first time I came here. Again, about another $100 later. Here we are ..
The reason I'm giving three stars is because each time I came, I seemed to become more disappointed. But on my 3rd visit, things seemed to be getting out of hand. First with the intervention drink my friend ordered that literally burned holes in our throats because it was so overly spicy and horrible, remained on our table the whole time when our waitress clearly saw it there full to top the entire time and not asking about it. I had to finally say something about it and it was just made even worse the second time around. Thankfully, at 14$ she took it off the bill. The table seated next to us came in 20min after and ordered after us but somehow got all their food before us. Apps and all? Lol. But what really ticked me off is that our server, NOT ONCE came
In and checked in on us about anything!!! We even had to track Her down And stop her just so that we can finally order (same as I did w/ drink) I get the place was busy this night but we are your customers as well but watching her go to every table but ours what absurd.
I hate to throw you under the bus GABBY but we are customers too!
With all this being said, over $300 later and each experience only getting worse, I think
I can safely say, I will most likely not be returning here. It's a hit or miss depending on the night I guess and I'd rather take the chance on saving that $100 and buying something else ..
Dining at Little Prince does feel like a storybook experience, not unlike Antoine St-Exupery's classic childhood tale, where "what is essential is invisible to the eye". But before I wax too poetic, know that my dinner experience at Little Prince was punctuated by the opportunity to have a spontaneous dinner with a dear friend, and we (magically) were seated immediately sans reservations on a weeknight. What was essential here was more than the food at this very quaint SoHo French brasserie; it was the company and the conversation. And yes, while you're elbow-to-elbow with your fellow diners, you can't help but focus solely on the conversation with the person in front of you. Side note: the bar seating also looks very inviting, with slightly more space per person.
Our server was very attentive, although his wine knowledge was severely lacking. Fortunately, the Picpoul Langue d'Oc was the perfect accompaniment to my entrée, and a good pour at $13. Ravaged from an evening pounding the pavement of SoHo for good shopping finds, we started with the Grilled Octopus, which was fairly good-sized for two to share at $18. It wasn't served atop a platter, as one might expect, but was in a bowl with some brothy accompaniments. It went well along with the crusty French baguette and butter which were complimentary items.
I opted for the Fluke fish as my entrée, and although the serving of fish fillet was impressively large ($27), it was drowning in its butter sauce. While I feel as though a French butter sauce can be a delectable experience, this one completely took away from the texture and flavor of the Fluke. My friend ordered the Steak Frites ($26), and while the fries were perfectly-executed, she had to send the steak was to be warmed, as it was delivered to our table barely lukewarm.
If this brasseries were a page from The Little Prince, the essential would be a good friend, a couple of French AOC glasses of wine, and an appetizer to share. Sit at the bar, or see if you can reserve a table in one of the corners of the restaurant, away from the door and the floor traffic. Chat, enjoy one another, and share some good company.
