  1. Not sure what all the fuss is about. I got the carrot cake and the frosting was too sweet, while the cake wasn't sweet enough. It worked if you ate the frosting and cake simultaneously, (as you should) but if you eat too much of either, you're screwed.

  2. The only thing to say about Lloyd's is this:  it is the best carrot cake in New York City hands down.  And quite possibly the best carrot cake on the planet.  They have other cakes that are excellent as well but the carrot cake is a must have.  End of story.

  3. Such a steal for amazing carrot cake. This place is small and nothing fancy but it's probably the best carrot cake I've ever had and each slice only costs $2.75. It's extremely moist with just the perfect amount of sweetness without being overwhelming or heavy. The creamy frosting may be on the sweeter side, but it balances the cake so eat them together! I also appreciate that they have two kinds of carrot cake, with and without nuts/raisins so they can cater to all tastes. I'll definitely be back for more carrot cake and to try their other cakes too.

  4. Love, love, love their carrot cake slices. Better to bring cash in my opinion, though they do take credit card for purchases over $5. The woman was bumbling over my credit card and messed up the transaction and had to swipe my card again. I had to ask her if I was charged twice, and she said no. Luckily, when I checked my credit card, there was only one pending charge.

Will definitely come back, even though it's quite a trek for me!!!

  5. Wonderful neighborhood baker. Very reasonably priced. Everything is delicious. It sells out fast.
Try the slice of German Chocolate Cake!
The price is a steal for fresh baked!
Only a two seat counter. Place gets busy!!
Opens 9am to 8pm. I can't walk by without looking in to see if anything is left!
If you snooze you lose when it comes to Lloyds!

  6. Really good carrot cake in Harlem!  Dropped in as I was driving by after reading the great reviews. The folks were friendly and the prices excellent. Got two big slices of carrot cake, one with raisins and nuts the other without. For around $5 and they take credit cards.

  7. The carrot cake here has just the right density and flavor.  The icing is pretty sweet, but it works. They do a great job making and decorating cakes and also have prepackaged cake slices that are generously portioned. This tiny storefront is a terrific surprise and definitely worth a wander up Lexington if, for instance, you find yourself on 96th Street.

  8. Would eat more if in the neighborhood, but certainly no need for a pilgrimage to Riverdale or the UES.

Finally made it to the UES satellite of this Riverdale staple to pick up the renowned carrot cake.  The storefront was not much to speak of – definitely more of a retail distribution center than a place to eat cake.  Cakes were pre-packaged in plastic clamshells and distributed in paper bags.

Got the carrot cake with nuts and raisins.  Picked up milk down the street at Starbucks and ate it in the nearby playground (no place to eat at Lloyd's).  Carrot cake was good, but not life-changing – crumb was a bit dense, but thankfully not over sweet.  Cream cheese frosting was certainly excellent.

I'd eat more if they distributed regionally.
