  1. Haven't hit a home run with your hot mate by the third date? Take him or her to Londel's to swoon your way in.

You're not coming here for the food, you're stopping by for the cool vibes and atmosphere. I'm not sure if this place was around in the 20s and 30s, but if it was, I can just imagine cool cats sitting around the bar with their hair slicked back, looking to bag the next happening chick that walks in.

They've got a decent selection of wines, beers and mixed drinks.

I recently went on a Saturday evening with Rusty and his dad. There was no wait, and I was enchanted by the brick walls and rustic, old time charm of this place. A lighted tree outside landmarks the spot.

I ordered the chicken with dijon sauce, with sides of spinach and macaroni with cheese. The chicken was good, moist, thick…but the sides were very greasy. The macaroni and cheese wasn't exactly cheesy…the spinach was also almost tasteless.

Rusty got the fried shrimp. They were pretty big. Russell Senior got the shrimp scampi. They were also really big looking. Pretty flavorful.

We got the red velvet cake for dessert and split it. It left an extremely chalky aftertaste in my mouth. My water glass never got more than half empty…Service was kind of slow, so again, you're going to want a cocktail or something to mull things over.

Live jazz music is a plus.

This place is ultra chic. I'd go again.

  2. I thought this place would be a winner after looking at the reviews. Wrong! The extra star is for the drinks, and the waitress. I enjoyed the ambiance, although the live singing could barely be made out due to a horrible sound system. My biggest issue was the food. It did not taste fresh. I had the ribs, mac and cheese and my friends had the fried chicken and salmon.  All tasted as if it was sitting in a refrigerator uncovered with other food. It did not taste fresh and it tasted like every other place that serves this type of food. The best part of the meal was the cornbread. We all left disappointed.  I am not sure if they were having a bad day, but I will not be returning.

  3. Londel's is a very nice restaurant.  Mr. Londel keeps it up nicely, they have live jazz playing, they have a nice bar and the manager runs the place great.  During the summer the windows swing out and you are pretty much able to dine alfresco. That being said, I have yet to eat a meal there that has knocked my socks off.  Since it has been a while since I have eaten there I might try the Sunday brunch to see if they have a new chef. Londel's is the kind of place you really want to like.  They are doing something right though because they have been around forever.

  4. Great place to eat if you're ever in Harlem. It's super busy with a nice staff and a friendly owner who is there everyday and makes conversation with all the customers. Famous politicians, poets and music artists have eaten there as well and have taken pictures with the owner that are placed all over the wall. Sometimes there is a live band and there is a buffet every Sunday for brunch. Definitely a must go!!!!

  5. This cozy establishment was our first choice for a late lunch after BF's graduation. We had a party of four and made reservations. If you are celebrating a special occassion, do let the hostess know when you make your reservation.
Londell's is a neighborhood gem with live jazz nights, delicious upscale soul food and all you can eat soul food brunches on the weekends.
All. You. Can. Eat. Soul. Food.
We arrived starving. We all told eachother we would consume 5 plates of soul food. We filled our plates on round 1 with buttery sweet potatoes, hammy collard greens, sharp and cheesy mac and cheese, Crispy fried chicken and tender ribs. We never got back up.
The fare at Londell's is wonderful. but let it be known, all you can eat soul food defeated us. I managed to get up for a 2nd round only to push the food around. There was nice spread of the classics and the customer service here is great.
There was a large party brunching when we arrived and we were squeezed in with them. Getting up and down while sitting so closely to everyone was difficult.
I plan on coming back for a regular sit down dinner. and preferably live jazz.

  6. I came here for the first time for a networking event. The food was very good especially their deep fried catfish, collards and their rice and peas. I also loved their sweet tea the best that I ever had in New York City. It is has nice decor and is located on a decent block. This place is a nice surprise.
