I wanted to love this cafe, I really did. My husband and I walked by and saw how crowded the restaurant was for brunch and decided to give it a try. However, when so many things happen and didn't happen, it is hard to ignore the signs.
– The servers were friendly but forgetful. I was never given a glass of water and eventually got up to ask for water. When we asked for a check, it never came. When I followed up with someone, they seemed to misplace the check and asked me what I ordered. Other diners seemed to have similar experiences (e.g., asking for milk for their coffee but no milk was provided).
– The food was good but slow to come out. We probably waited 20-25 minutes for our food to come out. We got the Challah French Toast with caramelized bananas. It was supposed to be served with whipped cream but that never came out. Also had the Huevos con Chorizo – Decent and with a kick. Scrambled eggs could have been fluffier and an extra tortilla would have been nice.
Sorry, but it doesn't look like we will be coming back any time soon.
This is the kind of place you want to take your special-someone-hopefully-to-be for brunch after the first night at your place. Trust me on that.
Here are the reasons:
the food is fantastic and it is very emotionally satisfying. (So when I say that, you can perhaps think of food that is very delicious, but doesn't make you feel like you just got a hug. See what I mean? Here it's different, here you get a hug!)
And then the food is affordable and because you are hungry now for various reasons I will not write down you need to eat, but if you anyways are in this neighborhood you need to also eat and feed on a budget.
And then the place has a very lovely comfortable atmosphere, like an extension of your living room. So you will not feel odd, which is important. And later on, if everything worked out with you two, you will remember that very important breakfast after night #1 that you had here as a very fond, warm, great memory and unless you move you even can come back ever after if things go well.
Having said all that, of course there is absolutely no reason not to come here and eat breakfast if you are by yourself or if you take people who you did not spend a first night with or even any night at all, because the food is still great and affordable also for you and the atmosphere is welcoming.
I ordered take out from here the other night and I was disappointed with what I got. I got the beef empanada which was dry and had very little filling with lots of air. The dough was tough also. I also ordered 2 tacos- pernil and steak. This is not like the tacos I'm used to. It comes with a huge tortilla and the filling was dry and tasteless. Some of the pernil was so tough, I had to throw a lot of it away. There was barely any onion and cilantro. The corn mixto was also not good. The food was cheap though. Perhaps this "boulangerie" specializes in their bread selection and dishes and I just ordered the wrong stuff.
Perfect, warm, sunny, welcoming spot for brunch, coffee, pastries, empanadas. The staff is incredibly friendly and always smiling. Food is super fresh and tasty. Definitely recommend the beef empanadas.
My go-to breakfast spot. Hearty portions. Huge menu and great election of fresh baked goods. I sent my gluten-free friends here and thankfully they gave it a thumbs up even without being able to partake in their yummy baked goods.
OMFG, there's a place that serves nitro cold brew on tap, BLOCKS FROM MY HOUSE!!!
WHY did it take me so long to realize this?! Unbelievably, I meandered in on a cold weekend evening after fetching groceries at a few other spots nearby, just expecting to grab a cheap cuppa joe. The owner was incredibly charming and friendly and let me sample the nitro as well as the flat cold brew, and we geeked out about coffee for a little bit.
the coffee is unexpectedly delicious here, and I hesitate to admit that since I feel like I want to keep this place all to my self, but knowing that it's family owned and operated, I want them to really flourish (which they seem to be!). while I haven't really sampled baked goods or food here yet, that'll definitely change, soon!
I went for a cappuccino, I am new in the neighbour and I am "exploring" it.
Service was lovely, my "custom" cappuccino was good and the look of the breads and desserts was delicious, I will be back for sure to buy at least their famous 7 cereals bread.
I bought 2 empanadas (2,25 each) which I ate at home and they were really good!
The menu also offers a lot of food from breakfast to dinner which look attractive too.
Ps. Empanadas were Spinaches+Cheese and Ground Pork+Mushrooms. Both very good, home style and right size
Great food! I love coming here to get my lunch. They have a wide variety of items on their menu, ranging from mexican to italian to american to pastries. I've tried a bunch of items from their menu and haven't been disappointed in the quality of food yet. I only wished that there wasn't such a long wait time for my food. I basically have to order my lunch 45 mins before my lunch break so i can get it in time.
My favorite menu item so far is the Chilaquiles which has the perfect amount of spiciness to it. I am always craving for that and if i'm ever around that area i would just think of ordering from here.Their chicken torta is packed with meat, a bit messy to eat but they don't skimp on ur sandwich! I also am a sucker for a good pesto sandwich and if you are too… try the brooklyn bridge panini.
