  1. There are a few things I order whenever I see it on a menu, and Tamale is one of them. I don't know what it is, it's not something from my childhood, but there's just something about the steaming in a husk with delicious corn meal and meat that drives me crazy. And this is the best tamale I've ever had in my life. Also the biggest. Also it's steamed in a big green leaf, which isn't what I'm used to elsewhere (although, I admit, I'm not an expert in Colombian food). Also it's not filled with ground meat or fatty meat, but rather with super tender chicken and/or sometimes beef — oh, also there's perfectly cooked chunks of carrot and cassava. The masa/corn-meal is green (not the usual brown/yellow) and includes peas and herbs. This dish is an enigma to me, an anomaly, and something about which I've obsessed for months — sometimes making the roundtrip journey three or four times a week. For me it's best with a generous squeeze of lime and a couple spoonfuls of picante (their version of which is one of my favorite condiments, I've actually asked to buy a container but either they didn't know what I was talking about or thought it a silly/drunken request or were too humble to accept such flattery)…

I love ALL the soups here. Perhaps the oxtail is best in winter, it may be too rich for some people on a hot humid day… With entrees (all of which are huge) they bring you either potato or cassava or french fries (which are sometimes spectacular and other times a bit oily) and a wonderful simple salad (squeeze lime, apply russian dressing) and an amazing plate of rice and–the best ever, loaded with bacon, super tender yet firm–beans… I'm bonkers for their fried chicken… The chicharron is spectacular… The maduros are phenomenal…  They have a wonderfully cakey flan (they always give me the corner piece)… Their cafe con leche is amazing…

I love their waitstaff, one in particular I truly adore (she's the sweetest kindest most wonderful woman)… I don't speak Colombian, but it doesn't matter. They have my absolute devition, so "it's all good."… I've tried a lot of dishes, but honestly I think you should just go in and order what sounds best to you… Their bathroom is very clean… The space is small and cozy with lively decor… I like to sit near the window with a view of the kitchen, a bit of calm amongst all the goings-on of Roosevelt Boulevard and a great view of all the dishes leaving the kitchen… The only thing I've had I wasn't crazy for is the arepa (without cheese), because in this shape it's too thick which requires it to be cooked too much for it (a rice cake) to be very tender or crumbly… But I'm always so full of food anyway that I just leave it aside so I can eat everything else.

  2. One of the best Colombian restaurant in New York. It's very, very cozy inside with great Latin music. Food is tasty and in large size. I had sobrebarriga, and it is quite tender and juicy. They also have refreshing agua panela con limon.

  3. This is some AMAZING COLOMBIAN food.

    Cheap, huge portions, good service.

This place can get jam packed but don't be intimidated it clears up fast. This was a random visit as I was traveling to LGA airport. I know where to stop to next time I travel to/from LGA.
