  1. I know Vegans tend to be super-friendly, but whoa… I was served by quite possibly the sweetest, kindest, happiest girl I've ever met when I came to dine here recently. Seriously, did I not get the memo about an ecstasy party at Loving Hut?

Oh, but I kid. Clearly there was no ecstasy party going on here because everyone around me was eating their faces off — food, that is. And while there was plenty of water flowing around me, the smiles on everyone's faces obviously had everything to do with the food and fine service of this very nice Vegan restaurant.

This was my first experience to Loving Hut, and as a newly aspiring Vegan, I must say I was pleasantly surprised. I really thought that making the switch away from meat would be miserable, but I keep stumbling upon more and more Vegan and vegetarian cafes that actually serve good tasting food. While I would never try to convince anyone that my falafel sandwich came anywhere close to the taste of a loaded Five Guys Bacon Cheeseburger after a wicked hangover, I did enjoy it quite a bit. Not necessary for this sandwich is the sub roll — way too much bread for a dish that is far better enjoyed with a knife and a fork.

I went with the falafel because I needed to try something familiar to me. At the time I dined here, I was only a few weeks into my Vegan experiment, and I had never yet tried seitan or any of those other faux meat-like products, and wasn't ready to take the plunge. I have since come around on all those things and would probably skip the falafel next time for one of their more interesting-sounding menu items. (A steaming plate of Vegan fajitas that came out of the kitchen looked and smelled awesome.)

My sandwich also came with a side of sweet potato fries, which I am normally not a fan of. But they were hot and cooked to perfection, and tossed with the perfect amount of salt. Needless to say, they were gone quickly.

And of course, no meal like this would be complete without a freshly-made green leafy vegetable juice. I find these green juices to go down as smoothly as a glass of water. But then again, I was the guy famous for doing picklebacks long before picklebacks became all the rage. If you are enjoying one of these juices, always better to drink them first before you eat your meal. This will allow your body to quickly soak up all the nutrients before you fill your stomach with food. (Yeah, I'm so turning into that guy.)

The ambiance of Loving Hut is simple, but it's bright and clean and very cheery. Plenty of seating to go around. A mural on the wall educates customers about famous Vegans that most people would generally be proud to be in the company of. (Add Christopher K. to that list.)

And have I mentioned the service? No joke — the service was great. I love people who have a natural permasmile on their faces, and my waitress was totally that person. I almost didn't want to leave because I was enjoying our playful banter all throughout the meal.

We'll see if in subsequent trips they can retain the 4-star review. But given the dearth of Vegan restaurants in the entire Central Jersey area, I can already say I'm a fan of Loving Hut and will be back again soon.

  2. What do Bill Clinton, Tobey Maguire, and Natalie Portman all have in common? They are all vegan! How do I know this fun fact? It is posted on the wall in the Loving Hut, that's how!

When I was in San Francisco, I went to a Vegan chain called the Loving Hut. I quickly became a  fan of their fresh tasting ingredients, expansive menu, and reasonable prices. Fast forward a month later and I'm searching for vegan restaurants in NJ and the Loving Hut pops up! Who knew they had a location in the Garden State and better yet, one that is only 25 mins away from me!

The Jersey Vegan Hut shares a lot of similarities with the Frisco location I was at, which is to say the servers are friendly, everything on the menu sounds delicious, and after finishing your meal, you will feel perfectly satisfied. I ordered the vegan cheesesteak and was thoroughly impressed. It wasn't quite as good as the one that I've had from another Jersey vegan restaurant which shall remain unnamed (you'll just have to search through my reviews), but it was still good. I was a big fan of this place and would very much like to return if I am in the area.

  3. My girlfriend is vegan and recommend this place so I decided to try it out with her. Recently, I told her I would go vegan once a week so this happened to be my vegan day of the week.  The restaurant is located in a strip mall and the restaurant closes for an hour or so between lunch and dinner so watch out for that.

I was a bit skeptical about how the food would be but I was pleasantly surprised. The best part of the meal were the mozzarella sticks, hands down! I would recommend to anyone and they may even be better than regular mozzarella sticks. I also ordered the stir fry, which was very good, but I wasn't a fan of the Seiten. I'm not sure if it's because I've never had it before or not but for the first time I had it, I wasn't a fan. I'm sure it would be better after I try it a few more times.

A great whole in the wall in local Manalapan and I would highly recommend it.

  4. I don't think I've ever eaten at a vegan place and this was my first soy patty. I thought it was pretty good. I actually went to get a pedicure a few store down and saw this restaurant as I was leaving. When I looked it up on yelp and saw it got four stars I decided to give it a try.

I ordered the Heavenly Grilled Panini. Soy patties on grain bread, mushrooms, sautéed onions, arugula, avocado, with a chipotle sauce.  I had asked for them to leave mushrooms off but they didn't. It was still goo. The soy patties were slightly tough, but not sure if that's normal or not. The bread was so soft and tasty.

Sandwiches, rice dishes, and noodle dishes come with a free small soup, just at lunch though I believe. The soup was pumpkin mushroom. I didn't eat the mushrooms but I tasted it and it was good. My mom ate the whole thing and thought it was absolutely delicious.

I'd definitely want to try this place again!  A little pricey but figured it would be.  The inside was so nicely set up with a corner of books and mags to grab if you want a read while eating.  The place was dead, literally no one there, but it was also only almost 11:30am. After telling people about it today though they said they have been around for awhile so they must be doing well!

  5. I've been wanting to try this place out for a while and i am SO glad i finally did. If you're vegan/nonvegan looking for great comfort food with reasonable prices- you have got to try the loving hut. I came here with my family today (none of them are vegan except for me) and we all loved the food and the exceptional service.

Some of my favorites were the soy protein strips (tastes a lot like regular chicken nuggets), mozzarella sticks (tastes better than the real ones imho), the loving hut burger (sooo filling and delicious), and the cheesecake for dessert. Their portion sizes are pretty big and most of their ingredients are organic and natural!

I have to give this place a big thumbs up. My stomach is so happy & full : )

  6. Very very interesting but delicious. First time going vegetarian and I can dig it. The place is great. Very quaint and comfort. Very clean. Staff are wonderful. The good was outstanding. I had vegetable noodles with mushrooms and a bunch of other stuff. It hit the spot and the price is right. Definitely check this place out.

  7. Its a great spot, I liked the white counters and tables with soft yellow colored walls.  They have a bakery glass display with cakes and desserts made from a different company.  I had (Go Green) fresh juice, daily vegetable soup with tofu, and the grilled portobello panini.  The juice was very good, no pulp.  The soup was a bit bland, and the broth was thickened somehow.  It had carrots, celery, tofu, peas, and corn that I remember.  It was okay, generous size, probably would not order again though.  The grilled portobello panini with side salad was good.  Although I was suprised that the portobello mushroom was cold/spongy?  I'd rather it be raw…. or Grilled, soft/hot.  It had tomato, lettuce, avocado added.  The bread was very good, with a nice crisp to it.  Also had seeds/nuts added in.  The waitress was very positive and happy.  I'm interested to try a few of the their other dishes such as the fajitas, and desserts.  I was starving when I arrived and full when I left with yummy/healthy food.
