LuAnne’s Wild Ginger All-Asian Vegan

“The seitan is perfectly prepared, the coconut curry is so flavorful, and the pumpkin and potatoes were cooked just right, firm but not tough.”

“YELP TIP: if u are rolling with friends skeptical of vegan restaurants, bring them here and order the soy protein nuggets.”

“We weren't given raisins with the coconut rice, but it was still yummy, if slightly bland.”

  1. Delicious clean awesome atmosphere with an open window front seating area, middle cozy warm area and an open door back of the house and then a terrace seating area in the back outside. Smells great and tastes as great as it looks. Veggies galore, a variety of appetizing dishes and get this even my meat loving friend Javi adored it. Plates are huge. Javi had the Pineapple fried rice and I had the kale pumpkin rice bowl assorted with other delights!

  2. I'm nowhere near a vegan (nor do I plan to be), but I absolutely love this restaurant.

I walked in here at around 1pm for my lunch break on a weekday, and the hostess, seeing a book in my hand, asked if I wanted to be seated under the skylight so I could have natural lighting. Talk about notice to detail!

When I asked my server what the passion fruit tea consisted of, she immediately somehow knew that I was asking whether or not it was sweetened and addressed my concern right away without me even asking! And when I was conflicted between the passion fruit tea and the passion fruit lemonade, she offered to get me a lemon to drink with my passion fruit tea (since the latter option was sweetened whereas the former was not).

As for my house bibimbap- wow. I couldn't believe I had paid similar prices to eat mediocre bibimbap at the Korean restaurant just several blocks down when I could have had the one here all this time. It had all my favorite ingredients (i.e. kelp, kimchi, avocado), as well as my not so favorite ingredients (i.e. chickpeas), but the combo worked so well that I didn't even realize I was eating a super healthy bowl.

And the complementary pumpkin soup- deeeelicious. I was skeptical of how good the soup would be because korean pumpkin soups had set such a high standard for me, but the one here was quite nice. The stock had a deep flavor to it- I could tell they brewed out onions and other goodies to make the stock taste more complex. And the pumpkins were oh so sweet and soft.

I did spend twice as much on lunch as I would have elsewhere, but it was well worth the money (though I'll probably skip the tea next time). Can't wait for the weekday to come so I can eat here again:)

  3. This is my favorite vegan asian spot, the food is so tasteful and the serving size it just right for your buck.  My favorite is the curry stew with seitan and vegetables.  The atmosphere is cool, although I always grab my food to go.

  4. Back in the day before the cows got to me, vegan was my chosen food. So LuAnne's was a restaurant I frequented often.

First of all I have the say, even though it's downtown Brooklyn, there is always parking available on Smith Street. That's a star in itself.

The decor is great, with most tables being private and nice classical music in the background. The waitstaff is also very knowledgeable about the foods and drinks they serve.

Food is absolutely phenomenal. I love the black pepper seitan and the teriyaki tofu strips as main dishes. They also have this amazing orange chicken that could totally pass as real. Prices are really decent too.

If you ever have a vegan friend but you still want to feel like you're eating real food, this is the place to go eat at.

  5. Vegan gf healthy fusion Asian?! Yes please. Had lunch here on a frosty day and enjoyed the casual atmosphere, prompt (but relaxed) service and the GIANT bowl of noodles and veggies! I could hardly Finish it…but I did. Also very reasonable for lunch. Can't wait to go back!

  6. I love this place. I always get exceptional service, I always sit in the same place, and I always get the mango avocado rolls and the noodle salad bowl.
I am not one of those people who orders the same thing but these two dishes are just spectacular and you can't get anything like it anywhere else.

I've sampled the other appetizers and entrees. Standouts include the samosas, and spring rolls, the curry is great and the vegan desert options are awesome! Vegetarian, Vegan or Meat Lover you will love this place. Especially if you are transitioning. I periodically give up meat for awhile and detox this place helps me get through the first few days.

It's hard to believe but great tasting, healthy Vegan options are not that hard to find! This spot proves it! The price is right and the lunch specials offer a great deal! Perfectly priced and the food is great! Why haven't you been here yet!? You're tripping!

  7. Oh boy! That was good!!! We were two people and had a variety of starters, one main dish and two desserts. The starters tasted all different and fresh and were so delicious. We had the fried dumplings for example and I ate two in a row so quick that I was able to say: "what?? no. I only had one yet" and got another one. Maybe not the nicest way but I wanted it to so badly. We also had the eggplant which were very hot, so be cautious.

The service was good and the portions were surprisingly big, especially the dessert. Definitely a place I recommend checking out.

  8. Great food here. I like the Malaysian Curry and General Tsoy's the best. I'm not vegan and I do eat meat. I have eaten a lot of food that vegan friends are really excited about, and realized that they might have just forgotten what the original version of their old favorite really tastes like (ex: some doughnuts I had the other day).  That's not the case here, would recommend to anyone.
