  1. It's Chinese take-out. Don't get your hopes up.

  2. A true hole in the wall mom-n-pop Chinese take out. No seats. Thick glass window and unfriendly staff. Guess if you're working 12 hrs a day everyday you won't be friendly too.

Since there's only irritated and overworked staff, wait time for something that's suppose to be quick is anything but. My chicken with eggplant with brown sauce over rice took 20 minutes. It's a lot of food for $6. It's a decent meal just to fill up.

But the lady was pure rude. Guess she's too busy to give a rats ass about customer service

  3. Considering that I am, ahem, 'The Duke' of Lucky House a review is indeed in order.

Now as a lifelong Brooklynite, outside of that 3+ years need for a change in Jersey City, I feel I'm a great judge of hoodtastic Chinese fast food.  I've had some horrible experiences right in the neighborhood, to say the least, but Lucky House – fortified with an 'actual' Sue and not just a stereotypical/standard name for the older lady behind the counter/bulletproof glass – makes the search for a decent spot in the Stuy totally worth it.

First off, they have A LOT of tasty vegetarian and vegan options. And they don't charge extra for brown rice.  Technically, that's all I have to say – but I will say more.  The price? Can't beat it.  What they save on not having to pay a delivery dude they make up for on the (relative) quality of the ingredients and the price point.  And they'll even sometimes throw in a lil' something something for free (I really just mean some extra sauce).

Extra-special: the posterboard sign that proclaims them as a the #1 Bed-Stuy chinese restaurant on YELP. Don't judge that negatively. It's dope.

Extra-extra-special: they're smart enough to put pictures of their menu on their Yelp page. Honestly, that's what first made me come here.  I love smart restauranteurs.

  4. Had to order here a few times before leaving a review. Best china man spot in Brooklyn. Hands down. I don't even order from the ones around my way, I drive miles away from my crib just to get some decent Chinese food at Lucky House.

  5. If you are looking for a warm fuzzy greeting from Sue when you walk thru the door don't bother, this is a Bed Stuy local Chinese take out spot that was a staple in the hood before the rents became to damn high (pun intended) and Lewis Avenue became hoodtastically trendy, the bullet proof glass still separates you from the kitchen staff, but the mussels with garlic sauce, hot and sour soup, brown rice, and steam broccoli is cooked to perfection, filled with flavor, and not over cooked.

I would give it a 5 star but the wait on a Friday night can be 45 minutes or more if you walk in, hint call ahead and when Sue yells "pick up ten minute, ten minute", that really means twenty minutes if you're lucky.

Try the steamed vegetable or shrimp dumplings, definitely worth the wait.
